Thoughts For Pickering v Marsh

Post by Coco »

Marsh is a non puncher, fought the usual supects and was beat by Matthews
Pickering is proven championship class but has some defeats of late but returned well to beat Hughes in the rematch

Pickering seems done to me , Hughes was hammering him for the first few rounds of their British title fight until Pickering eventually got going and when you consider Pickering lost to Hughes before that it shows how far he has slipped .

Marsh is a notch or two above Hughes and although he isn't a huge puncher I think he may be able to stop Pickering .

Esham Pickering defends his British super-bantamweight title against West Hammer Matthew Marsh at York Hall later this month.
The Newark holder (by way of Sheffield, where he trains out of the legendary Ingle gym) first won the title back in 2003 when he hammered southpaw Scot Brian Carr in four rounds. By 2005, he was British, Commonwealth and European super-bantam champ. Then Michael Hunter took his titles on a close majority decision in Hartlepool but Pickering, despite more recent losses to Bernard Dunne and Sean Hughes, bounced back by outscoring tough Londoner Marc Callaghan last year in Norwich to win the British title for a second time and stopped southpaw Hughes in nine thrilling rounds in a defence last time out.
A pro since 1996, the 31-year-old champion goes for a Lonsdale Belt outright against Marsh.
The challenger was all of 14 when Pickering turned pro and made his way to full England vests and a brace of ABA titles, prior to signing with F rank Warren in 2004. Trained by Johnny Eames out of the TKO Gym in Newham, Marsh held down a full-time job as a heating engineer and his career stuttured along until a sponsorship deal finally gave him a shove. First he lifted the Southern Area super-bantamweight belt with a 10-round decision over Norfolk's Rocky Dean last year - his second win over the gritty Dean - then he went 11 tough rounds with Liverpool's unbeaten Derry Matthews in an audacious crack at the WBU featherweight title, before he was stopped on his feet. The challenger is not a big puncher but he comes off a stunning 143-second dismissal of Tanzania's Ajibu Salum - his first stoppage win as a pro.
Busy and determined, Marsh will enjoy good support in the famous east London venue, but Pickering has the real edge in power and boxing ability and of course experience. "Brown Sugar" was close to a major world title shot when Hunter climbed off the canvas twice to edge him out and indeed challenged for the WBO title at bantamweight, if not for long. While the Hughes setback sent out signals that Pickering is on the other side of the hill, I'm not sure the 25-year-old Marsh is the man to shove him all the way down.
Pickering gets home.

interesting match up and i think this is eshams opportunity to own the belt outright. i hope esham does it, he has been a great warrior and does not seem to be in easy boring fights anymore.
