Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
Size wise I think Pacquiao maybe able to maintain size and strength at 140lbs. HE weighed 145 on fight night for his Super-Feather fights and Pac has a lower boodyfat percentage than Hatton. Height, Reach, Measurements, all are all pretty much identicle to Hatton.
It will boil down to who the better boxer is and I'm not sure who's the better boxer tbh but I'd pay to see this 1

Couldnt have been that shot if he subsequently beat the man thats going to beat pac, could he?Max Molyneux wrote:Third fight with Morales was pointless though, Erik was pretty much shot by then.
Thought Morales beat Diaz thought 115-113.
Not sure about Pac's chances against Diaz who Is a boiled down light welter himself.
.
Aside form all that Its got the makings of a great fight, Diaz is supremely strong and the move up in weight may or may not suit the little phillipino (who is no longer little). Should be just coming into his prime now should Pac.

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
Of course size is an issue. What a ridiculous statement to make. Pacman hasn't been anywhere near as destructive as he has moved up in weight. He isn't scoring as many knockdowns or knockouts, and Hatton has been in with much bigger men that Pacman.Gray-Fox wrote:The 140lb division is poor at the moment. A fight with Malignaggi is the best bet for Hatton. Otherwise it's Witter or Pac-Man. Incidentally, I think Pacman would beat him. Far more skilled and talented than Ricky. Size is no issue.
We saw how easily Hatton stopped Castillo who was a big lightweight.
It's perfectly possible that Hatton would simply be able to walk through Pacman's shots and smash him to bits, and I think that's the most likely outcome.
Pacman is also not that hard to hit, which is what Hatton likes.

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
FWIW i had manny winning both vs JMM by a single point. saying that manny didn't win a round after the first is offmark IMO, he took 1,2 and then (I think) at least 2 more on my card.
I assume, with how heavy pac has been at 130, that he would come into the ring as a lightwelter at 145-150- what weight he comes into the ring at lightweight will tell us more- so i guess he will give up around 5-7lbs to hatton in the ring on fight-night (with hatton at 152-155 i guess?)? which isn't so much..... like someone has said the Diaz fight will tell us more. I think hatton is shot enough that it levels the playing field with manny somewhat. it is said that manny is too hittable, however on recent form he moves his body and head much more consistently than hatton does, also he is quicker with his feet. my doubt for manny is that he doesn't fight particularly well on the backfoot- though in the past few fights he has developed an excellent counter right hook on the backfoot which is a shot that gives hatton problems. i don't think manny can hurt hatton with one punch but can maybe give his eyes/scar tissue problems. it would be interesting to see if manny tries to push hatton back, or more likely i think, circle around him and wait for the chance to explode in and throw clusters of fast shots before getting the funk out of there if he knows whats good for him. bank on hatton initiating a few clinches early to try and make any extra weight and strength tell.
can he beat hatton? yes i suppose but i wouldn't bet my own money on it.

It was a styles thing though and Morales stuck to using the jab and his boxing ability.
Pac likes to come right at you and swarm you with fast hands and Diaz being a guy who tries to out muscle and work you will like that.
Think a Diaz upset Is possible.

What drug are you on mate? Pac has faced Marquez, Morales and Barrera who have all been in top 10 p4p as well as quality fighters like Larios and Sanchez, Joe has had nowhere near the same level of opposition.

I call people a mong when they turn aggressive towards my thoughts rather than simply disagreeing. I tried to refrain from that In the past but I thought screw It.
Like Gatti, Pavlik Isn't so hard to hit, nothing bad about comparing them In that sense. I can see Pavlik going the way Gatti did and becomes a punching bag but I maybe wrong too, depends how he treats his career. Not hyped on him as much as most are though. Least the posts here are more reasonable than the current scene and ESB's stuff.
Just because you fight certain fighters doesn't make you a better fighter than another fighter who's fought other names. Joe Is clearly a better boxer than Manny.

Not seen a post of yours harsh on local lads, you make a few points In defense of their criticism from what posts I've seen of yours. I don't always read your BBN stuff or all your posts though I guess.Funny as I was told today that I've been harsh on some local lads. Pick up any free local paper if you want to see cheerleading.

I don't accept In the way of disagreeing and thats ok.
Had a few youtube looks at Pavlik again and I'm still not convinced as much as the rest, Joe's speed, footwork, jab and flurries will be too much for him. Pavlik just walks at to trying to knock you out and uses his size to tower and swarm you. Think he's easy to hit with the jab and hooks mainly.
I think Kessler beats him, I'd favour Abraham due to the better chin and I even think Froch would spark him. Froch would love a guy like Pavlik standing In front of him so he can throw that right uppercut.
Not seen no development from Miranda to the Lockett fight at all.

The questions is absolutely preposterous, I only opened the the title thread for a laugh, but as it received so many serious replies, I was compelled to write this.
Pac is an ex-FLYWEIGHT who, now at age 30, has already found his natural fighting weight. What he loses in speed by leapfrogging to 140, he will NOT get back in much extra strength.
I'd give him a slim chance of a SLIM points win against Juan Diaz at 135Ibs. You want to add another 5Ibs and put him up against a guy who is 35-1 at 140? He'll leave the ring DEAD.

It's not likely to happen tho??
Those are the things that Hatton likes in an opponent.
It is laughable - O thought he came back tp prove he is the best at 140lbs.
So. Lazcano a career Lightweight and inactive coming off a loss.
Maliganaggi - no punch and looked bad last few fights.
Pacman - One time superfly.
Hatton is heading for the Hall of Fame!
Who in your opinion then, should he be fighting at 140 to "prove" himself?
Bradley would be a good start.

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
I dont think this fight comes off. Firstly Pac will probably underestimate Diaz ... look at the lengths Roach had to go to in order to ensure he put in the work for the Marquez rematch, and Manny knew how tough that fight could be. If Diaz seizes the opportunity for what it is he could make a name for himself, he's not a bad fighter. His fight with Holt was a blast.
On top of which, I dont see Hatton getting past Malignaggi. Fair play, Hatton probably didn't deserve the level of criticism he got after the Lazcano fight, but he had the look of a man who had just been chinned badly for the first time (as a pro). Each time he got caught, it was panic stations. He isn't the type of fighter who's going to regroup and become more defensive in approach, and even though Malignaggi isn't the biggest of punchers, he's going to find Hatton's chin on the counter with enough regularity to stop him in my opinion.
Hope I'm wrong on both counts, Hatton vs Pac would be interesting. I'd favour a motivated Manny.

If Mayweather stays retired this will definately happen

I found this (not-so) old thread while scrolling through the archive's and thought it would be interesting to knock it back to the front page.
Aint it funny how quickly things can change in boxing? I think Jaybee would agree

Phew, I didn't make a fool of myself.Asterix wrote:According to Boxrec Hatton is 65" and Pacman is 67". Both the same height.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Depends on Pacman's reach, but I think it's about the same as Ricky's (which I believe is 66 inches). My main concern is that Manny was leaping in like a Gazelle at times against Marquez, and, if he did the same against Ricky, he'd got stopped.
I think Hatton's punch resistance has gone, so I give Pacman a chance of scoring the upset.

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
If it turns into a brawl, like I'd think Hatton would want it to, then minus some sweet sharp punches from Manny, I think Hatton would be too strong for him. Should be a good fight though.
Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
Depends what kind of brawl. An ugly, clinch filled brawl gives Hatton a shot at winning, but if it's a straight up toe to toe brawl Pacquiao will eat him alive. I think Pacquiao is gonna do a number on Hatton as long as the ref does his job.jeej wrote:If it turns into a brawl, like I'd think Hatton would want it to, then minus some sweet sharp punches from Manny, I think Hatton would be too strong for him. Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
The amount of bollocks talked on here is staggering!!
Before the Malignaggi fight the crack was: 'Ricky's finished' 'Pac would destroy him' etc etc etc
After Hatton did a job on Malignaggi and Pac a job on De La Hoya the same crack was being spoken.
Now that the fight is close to being made it seems many Hatton haters are worried because they were wrong in their assessment that Hatton was finished so are now trying to diminish the fight by saying 'Pac is a super flyweight' 'Ricky should pick someone his own size' yada yada yada
Listen this is a very good fight and the winner whoever he is deserves a huge amount of credit.
Its a damn good fight end of story
Feck me there are some fickle people on here

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
Having initially thought that Pacquaio should be favourite, albeit very slightly, I've had a reality check, and I think that Hatton has to be the natural favourite.
Pacman is going to be well outweighed on fight night, Hatton will weight in at 154 or so, Pacman weighed what on fightnight against Oscar, 149 was it? Bearing in mind, that was at the higher weight too!
Hatton is going to have significant physical advantages in the fight, whilst Pacquaio has the edge in handspeed and technical punching ability.
I make Hatton slight favourite - not massively, but he's got to be 58-42 or so surely?
Some bookmakers are offering 2-1 on Hatton at the moment.

Re: Can Pacquiao beat Hatton?
Hatton won't have significant physical advantages, imo. Hatton was 152 lbs in the ring against Malignaggi and I suspect will be around the same for his next fight. Pacman will likely be between 148 lbs and 152 lbs. There won't be a significant difference in their weights and Pacquiao is always strong and powerful in comparison to his poundage.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Having initially thought that Pacquaio should be favourite, albeit very slightly, I've had a reality check, and I think that Hatton has to be the natural favourite.

Yes, agreed, Pacquaio is a very strong man - but how much of that weight he brings into the ring against Hatton will be effective weight.
I still think Hatton is going to be the bigger man on the night.
Hatton will be physically much bigger than Pacquaio come fight night, I'm utterly sure of that. He's far bigger boned than Pacquaio.
