Mickey Vann is also one of the best home refs around :TU:

If anyone can recall Armand Krief, he was bad.
O'Connor had a lot of stick for the Manfredo stoppage and I thought he gave a bad verdict to Darren Corbett when he was clearly beat by Rob Norton.
However I think that the Birmingham official is a damn good ref

Selective memory methinks. Tszyu was nailing him with rights hands prior to that, and how could a referee allow someone who has just fallen all over the ring like that, and who cannot stand still because their legs are buggered carry on.

Tszyu would have annihilated Judah the next round anyway.

Worst ref jobs for me are.

Jack Reiss, in some minor title fight, where he allowed the champion to take almost three whole rounds of punishment when he was totally out on his feet, before finally stopping it.

and

Roger 'Remember you're a womble' Tillerman, who did the most biased and corrupt bit of refereeing I think I've ever seen in Reid v Ottke.
Well to me Nady clearly ballsed up a superfight there. Check the KO link

Zab gets NO count at all - even though it's the round's end - sure he gets up too quick and too early, and yes his legs have momentarily gone, but that's not a sure sign a fight NEEDS to be waved over - surely not after one sudden punch so early in a fight between champions.
We've seen David Haye's legs perform similar breakdances, and yet he's good to go 10 secs later.
Larry Holmes was all over the place when he got up from a Shavers right hand, but he was near the ropes so grabbed hold of them when he got up - then came back to win. Bad luck for Zab he was nowhere near the ropes.

Nady should have given him a 10 count, THEN seen how he was ( it'd have been between rounds by then as well ) I mean what the hell is wrong with giving a 10 count there??
But instead he clearly panicks and waves it off, giving Judah no chance to show he was ok.
Terrible ref.

And yes, Jack Reiss was the worst I've ever seen - so ignorant he's in danger of getting someone killed in there. Haven't they retired the bum yet?

So on that basis you feel that Enzo Mac was stopped far too early then?

The fight ruined him anyway and there was still time for him to take a few more blows.

Shame pretty much every top ref has been mentioned - i'll go with Gunn v Gross but well worth it for comedy value.

Which recent fight did the ref help the fighter of the canvas before counting?
Not a fan of quoting myself but I think I've remembered, the Hernandez v Braithwaite ref recently was beyond bad, i'm sure he helped Hernandez of the canvas at one stage

It makes a lot of difference doesn't it, Lennox is generally labeled as being chinny due to, in part, the McCall stoppage where as Holmes is labeled with a solid chin and great recovery powers. But when you look at them, Holmes was in much worse state against Shavers than Lewis ever was but only one of them get the chance to continue. To state what may have happened next is pure fantasy

Refs do play a very big part in the game

Dave Parris

KT Vs Hatton

Watch it again, he may as well have held KTs arms.

Shameful and so biased.

ANY Micky Vann Hatton fight has to be up there.

Enzo Mac was given the chance to regain himself and was then judged to see if he could carry on, Zab wasn't even given that chance.

If you dance around like Judah did you cannot expect the referee to let you continue. Judah should have stayed down for a few seconds to regain control. It's his own fault, not the referee's. The referee was looking out for his welfare.

Nady panicked for me, and he should've realised that all Judah did was get up too early and give him a chance - he spoiled a super/mega fight for me.

Paul Sita.

Ever heard of a 20-count? Well, among other things Sita decided to introduce this in the foul fest between Derrick Gainer and Freddie Norwood. He had the HBO commentary team in absolute knots trying to work out what the fcuk he was doing.

What about the referee in Morrison vs Mercer - that should've been stopped way before. Who was the ref?

This is spot on - in fact I hear Judah saw Nady down the line and thanked him for stopping the fight , as he knew he could have been seriously hurt.

If anyone did that crazy chicken dance, people would be seriously concerned for their health ;-)

Exactly, I've no problems with the Enzo stoppage at all, as the ref clearly gives Enzo a chance and looks carefully at him before rightly waving it off.

Nady actually waved it off between rounds, as Zab goes down first time with a bout 1 second to go..Nady is a complete plank, no wonder he's the splitting image of George W Bush.

Tony Perez - the same ref who allowed Gerry Cooney to unload several shots onto an already unconscious Ken Norton, and also the man who heard the bell go when Ali had Frazier hurt in their second fight when there was still plenty of time left in the round.

But he did let Big Frank hug McCall for most of the last two rounds of their fight so he can't be all bad!

Nady.......biased, arrogant, dives into early, over-officious, and prevents infighting which is obviously breaking the rules laid down for the sport.

Cortez....weak, biased, inconsistent, and sounds like a sealion.

Cotton......disgustingly biased and actively hounds fighters who he's not 'rooting' for. See the job he did on Ndou for Malignaggi. Shutout first time, Ndou was very unlucky in the rematch. Shows just how much difference the referee can make on a fight.

And goes without saying the w*nker who stood in the middle in Williams recent fight should just be shot.

Seriously? Morrison-Mercer and Cooney-Norton are two of the most vicious knockouts ever on fights that should've been stopped earlier.

I watched Williams v Skelton 1 and wondered exactly what it takes to get Terry O'Connor to take a point off or dq someone.

Every time Skelton butted, held the back of the head etc, it was just warnings 'hey Morph keep em up pet theres a good boy.' And repeat.

Roberto Duran - Davey Moore was cruel and inhuman punishment. Ernesto Magana was oblivious to what was a systematic beating that should have been stopped 2 or 3 rounds earlier than it eventually was.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned Burton-Augustus 1, although this might be because the terrible reffing was overshadowed by the even worse judging. In one of the middle rounds Augustus actually puts Burton down for well over 10 seconds with a shot to the ribs. The ref calls a low blow and takes a point off. He also took a point off Augustus for spinning himself out of a clinch. It's fair to say that Augustus was fighting a bit of a uphill battle that night!

That was bad but I also think Moores corner should have taken some responsibility there as well. Moore was taking a horrendous beating and I think his cornermen should have used some commonsense and pulled him out.
