Elliott confirmed for Brian Magee

Post by bennie »

IBO super-middleweight champion Brian Magee now defends against Jerry Elliott, a 27-year-old Nigerian based in Germany, at the legendary King's Hall in Belfast on April 17.
Elliott replaces the Dutchman Fighting Nordin, forced to withdraw due to injury.
Elliott has drawn with Nordin, and boasts an excellent 37-3-1 (27) card. He has lost only to Cristian Sanavia (soon to face Howard Eastman in a WBC middleweight final eliminator in Italy), to hot Russian prospect Aslanbek Kodzoev, and last time out in September to Kenya's Evans Oure Ashira (who faces New Zealander Maselino Masoe next month for the vacant WBA middleweight title).
Ashira is the only man to have stopped him.

Is it right that Elliott is trained by Torsten May?

Elliott is decent enough for certain but his stoppage loss to Ashira down at Middleweight doesn't bode well for a move up to Super Middleweight, however at least Magee's opponent level has improved since the days of withdrawing from matches with the likes of Barbosa! I was reading an interview with Magee recently in Boxing Monthly and i was shocked at what a good amateur he was, i never knew he once so many accolades at good levels too.
