Mundine has to go after Pavlik

Post by Bentley23 »

if he wants to go down in history like hes always talking about he has to throw caution to the wind and man up chase the big fight to me Pavlik seems like a guy thats willing to fight anybody so if mundine really wants the fight he can get it and i reckon he'd give a better showing than gary lockett did im not sure how much money he made from the fight but i would think mundine is a bigger name than gary

it would be nice to see M step up and fight the Middle weight Ring Champion but do you really think that will happen?

I think Mundine has the defencive style to trouble Pavlik. But that being said i still think Pavlik would eventually stop him in the later rounds.

I think that anyone that applies alot of pressure gives Mundine nightmares, I think he would lose a decision to Pavlik as Mundine would be WAY to defensive. Same with a Kessler rematch, same with a fight against Andrade. Anyone durable and with heavy hands would make Mundine too gun shy.

That being said, there is not a chance in hell of Mundine actually taking a credible fight.

and its because of this that even talking about mundine pavlick is irrelevant.

Spot on, us talking about M fighting a credable opponent will not make it happen, best thing i think is to just not support his shit shows.

I still think Mundine will have trouble making 11 stone 6. He is gaunt at 12 stone.

Mundine wouldn't do it and I doubt Pavlik would even know who Mundine is. Pavlik is looking for big fights after the Lockett fight and in the US Mundine does not fit that bill.

I doubt Mundine will ever make a run in the USA at all to be honest.

Mundine

Mundine would destroy Pavlik. Mundine is fast as lightning and he carries a good punch. It was awesome when he beat Danny Green and I am confident that he would be Kessler in a rematch. Also Mundine would beat Calzaghe. I am a huge Mundine fan.

It could be the wrong time to move down, because Pavlik is bound for super middle. Pavlik may move up to super middle and fight Calzaghe in October.

Mundine has the style to beat Pavlik, but he would surely weaken himself to get down to 160, and this would make him throw fewer punches and see him get outworked. It depends on Mundine's attitude. If he can balance sharp punching with brilliant defence (as seen vs Green) he can do it. But if he's gun shy, poses and gets outlanded 3 shots to 1 every exchange then he's in trouble.

The sad thing is, a win over Kessler is all Mundine needed to get him in the mix. Kessler was his top contender and he should have faced him. But Mundine fought Soliman again and then dropped the belt. This was weird as Mundine never even wanted to face Soliman the 2nd time, which turned out to be Mundine's finest performance (stopping Soliman). Anthony didn't move forward from that, he fought Soliman again (!) and didn't do as well the 3rd time.

The career choices he makes are worse than that of a pre-Lacy Joe Calzaghe. Sad, because Mundine can be a brilliant boxer.

Now I have read everything.........Mundine has a reasonable chance against Pav, if he makes weight ok....I still don't think he beats Pav though. He gets beaten by MK and JC. I'm glad you are a Mundine fan, there are not many around (I am not one).
I can't believe I actually replied to this thread !!!

We can all sit and try to be smart, but Mundine knows far better than any of us if there is a chance he could beat Kessler again. He has answered that completely.

I think it would be a huge error to go after Kessler as Kessler would beat any 160-168 fighter except for Calzaghe - and Kessler is going after Calzaghe because he believes he would win a rematch, especially if it wasn't on Joe's home soil.

Kessler has good footwork and is fast and agile enough to wipe out Mundine's best usual advantages. Pavlik being stiffer and less technically skilled than Kessler would be a better opponent for Mundine. However, to beat Pavlik Mundine would still need to show more than he did vs Siaca. Pavlik fights like Siaca with more one-punch power, so Anthony would need to improve over that fight.

At the end of the day, I think the recipy for success is simple: Mundine is having trouble with long arms. As basic as that. When a fighter like Siaca can beat him, while he can beat Green fairly easily - the only thing Siaca has on Green is the lenght of his arms. Mundine just doesn't seem to be able to get past long arms and his speed advantage is negated by long arms because he has to work at a distance.

I think Mundine may look like a million dollars against Arthur. Arthur is tough and one of my favorite fighters, but he has fairly short arms for a middle.

Maybe Anthony should ask his father what a short-armed middleweight named Bennie Briscoe did to him.

I dont think it has anything to do with arm length, its just that m cannot step up and beat the better opposition out there

I think that he has the ability to beat the better opposition, just not the heart. Against no-name Argentians he will go on the attack but any with a bit of skill he fights really defensively and drops the decision. I don't see him ever getting KOed again because he wouldn't get in and trade with anyone that had power. Maybe things would be different if he had beat Ottke or lost a decision instead of getting dropped but it seems like that loss really affected him.

Tony had a similar problem. His manager, Ernie McQuillan said of him "He hasn't got a glass jaw. It is just that when he gets knocked down he doesn't like to get up again."

Munidne doesnt have a problem with long arms...Greeny didnt have short arms. Mundine just doesn't have the balls to go on the attack with anybody he remotely thinks can cause damage!!
I don't like the bloke one bit, but skill wise I think he could match it with the... top fighters out there. We wont see it though!!

I would like Shannon to stop boxing now, go out as a winner. He was a bit lucky to get away with his last fight and I see no real future for him.
