Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
Re: Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
RJJ's loss to Glenn Johnson was tougher for me to watch than the Tarver KO.
It was tough for me to see Matthew Hilton getting stopped on cuts and swelling against Doug Dewitt in 1990 for the newly created WBO MW tittle.
It was hard to see Corrales totally helpless against PBF.

Re: Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
Honeyghan losing to Starling and Breland was tough.
Against Starling he just fought the worst possible fight he could. He essentially self-destructed in that fight and played right into Marlon's hands. I heard he had such bad hands at that point that he just went for an early KO knowing he's be gone by the mid point.
I believe the guy who beat Curry and Blocker would have squeezed past Starling. But Lloyd had to look at it as a distance fight.
Lloyd was so washed up by the time he got bounced around by Breland it was not funny. He would have KO'D Breland a few years before with ease.

Wilfredo Gomez getting beat up by Sanchez. It was shocking for me to watch Gomez lose like he did. I was completely devastated for about a week.
Alfredo Escalera getting beat up by Arguello. For some reason I always like “El Salsero” Escalera personality inside and outside of the ring

1) Muhammad Ali -v- Larry Holmes - watching a totally shot legend unable to fire back at Holmes & just standing there taking shots. Ali is lucky that Holmes took it easy on him.
2) Matthew Saad Muhammad -v- Dwight Braxton 2 - I thought that Saad might just be able to turn it around in the rematch, as he always managed to find a way to win, but alas, no. I knew then that Saad's era was over & he was never the same fighter again.

When Duran quit vs. Leonard. Not beaten, just quit..... :(
And championship fights should be 15 rounds....no if, ands, or butts.

Re: Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
There have been several of my favorite fighters that I have seen things happen to that I didn't like much.
Evander Holyfield losing to John Ruiz, James Toney, Michael Moorer, Sultan Ibragimov, Larry Donald, etc......You hate to see your favorites lose a fight, but when they lose to guys that shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as them, or they lose because they are only a shell of what they were, it is more difficult. I could accept the losses to Bowe because they were great fights and he still looked like a prime Holyfield.
RJJ getting dq'ed against Montel Griffin and losing to Tarver and Johnson. With Griffin it was a close fight, but I think it is because RJJ was not motivated and didn't seem to wake up until late when he saw Griffin wasn't going anywhere. That fight sucked for that reason but also because RJJ probably could have gotten him out of there at any time had he just decided to do it. It also sucked because Griffin played the ref. He knew if he got up a brutal KO was coming so he decided to do the bitch thing and just stay down. The 2 fights with Tarver Jones was a shell of himself. Same with Johnson. 2 guys that shouldn't have beaten him ko'ed him badly, for whatever reason (weight loss, eroding skills, etc).
Roberto Duran and JCC both hanging on to long and losing to people that wouldn't have been good enough to spar with them in their younger years.
Sugar Ray Leonard coming back to get beat by Terry Norris and Macho Camacho.
Mike Tyson losing to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.
George Foreman losing to Tommy Morrison. I hated that just because Morrison changed his style for that fight. He was in and out, boxing and running, because he knew if he banged with George he would get KTFO like he did against Mercer.
Bruce Seldon...........yes..........I like Bruce Seldon..........watching him take a dive against Tyson sucked. I'm of the opinion he would have been dusted in the first 2 rounds anyway, but he didn't even try to fight. Then watching him lose to Tye Fields and Gerald Nobles in this comeback suck too. I expect more from a former champion. Even if he does have a glass jaw.
Ike Quartey losing to DLH was hard to watch. It was a competitive fight but Ike just couldn't stay on his feet.
Shane Mosley losing to Vernon Forrest. I like Forrest but to watch Shane get dominated was tough.
Wlad losing to Corrie Sanders, Ross Purity, and Lamon Brewster......He has rebounded nicely though.
Larry Holmes losing to Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks. I hate to see any legend come out of retirement and get blasted like he did against Tyson. Against Spinks I though he did enough to get a narrow victory or draw at worst in both fights.
The list goes on an on so I'm ending it here.

Re: Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
Seldon was never a champion, in any sense of the word (literal or figurative). He was a partial belt-holder, & not anything more. He flopped willingly against Bowe, too. Pretty disgusting, all-in-all, to disrespect the sport & fans the way he did on more than one occasion.zslayton wrote:There have been several of my favorite fighters that I have seen things happen to that I didn't like much.

Re: Your Favourite Fighter - The Toughest Moment?
I knew James "Quick" Tillis.
I was there when he fought Mike Weaver in Chicago for the WBA belt I believe it was in 1981.
The Rosemont Horizon.
Hagler demolished Hamsho on the same card.
I was dissapointed in Quick because I thought he was movin around way too much.
I thought he could have beaten him if he put out a little more.
James was a nice guy and fun to be around in the gym.
A couple years later I fought on a couple of his undercards at the Congress Americana Hotel in Chicago.
My trainer even cornered a fighter that Quick fought in the main event because the guy showed up I guess with nobody.
That fighters name was Leroy Boone.

Even sadder was Gomez getting Ko'd a few years later by mediocre Alfredo Layne to lose the WBA super feather title. Gomex led the fight big going into the 9th round, but he hadn't had any legs (or chin) since winning the feather title over LaPorte more than two years earlierBorinken25 wrote:Wilfredo Gomez getting beat up by Sanchez. Another high on the list was Arguello getting pounded, for the second time, by Pryor. Arguello was a class act and it was sad to see him get beat up by Pryor

Fenech being Kod by Nelson then Grove.Especially Grove.
Zoo vs Hatton.I started feeling sad when Zoo came out to walk to the ring and looked like he just woke up.A real bad feeling started to build within me thru to when he was not looking at Johnny when he was being asked if he wanted to continue.

Though I was not old enough to experience this one I am still a hugh Joe Louis fan and the Marciano defeat turns my stomach and equally I was just out of high school when Foreman lost to Ali and of course being young and dumb and the only one of my group of friends to do any boxing I had explained to them how Foreman would tear Ali up...ate a lot of crow!

"You are blind to 'referee' Richard STEAL's endless track record working for Don King's interests?
Chavez was King's fighter.
Taylor was not.
2 and 2 equals 4."
Steele didn’t stop the fight for King. That’s a myth fabricated by HBO and Lou Duva who also lied about what he told Taylor before the 12th round even though the video of the fight clearly shows how much he makes up his own version of the facts.
Richard Steele’s assignment to the Chavez-Taylor match was never brought up before the fight. All of a sudden it became another excuse by the Duva camp on HBO’s Legendary Nights documentary and has been perpetuated on the internet since then. I have a lot of boxing magazines from 1990 and none of them mentioned Duva protesting Steele because of Don King. World Boxing wrote that “Steele had the letter of recommendation from the entire boxing industry for this fight.” World Boxing heavily criticizes Don King all the time. I don’t think that magazine works for King either.
The fact is that lots of boxing writers at ringside also had the fight even or a 1 or 2 point difference after 11 rounds and all the HBO announcers talked about was their one-sided biased opinions.

Tszyu VS Hatton.
I'm a huge fan of KT and I thoroughly enjoyed the fight. I thought Hatton would take it on points, But KT at that age, to fight as well as he did, had me impressed!!
BUT, then he doesn't get up from his corner at the end of round 11 and my heart sank. :(
He should have kept
