Fantastic odds for Pinto.

Post by stujones »

Apparently world sport exchange (I couldn't tell you if that is online or what) are offering odds of +7.00 or 7/1 for Pinto against Hatton. The American public who I speak to (and are big Hatton fans!) are grabbing this opportunity like hot cakes.

This fight is capturing the imagination stateside, its a solid match in my opinion. Look at Pinto's amateur record is oozes quality, okay his chin aint been tested - but he has the skills to do this one.

I think the odds on Pinto justify his chances, really. Hatton in Manchester. With his left hook to the long body of Pinto. With his own referee. With a cutman who will keep him in the fight no matter how bad the cut is. With proven world class talent.
That's tough.

The only way Pinto will win in Manchester is if they carry Hatton out the ring, Pinto's body will get such a bashing, Hatton will keep his head down and just keep smashin the ribs. I think pinto will go for the ko i first round( as per normal), Hatton will ride the storm and get a stoppage in the middle stages, Since Hatton has done the dietitian thing and kept a check in his weight he has'nt cut as much as previous fights, and he looks more hungry ( in the fights)

Excellent point. I didn't really think about how the method of weight loss would effect the durability of the skin, but it seems very plausible.

I think it's about time something was done to prevent Mickey Vann refereeing more Hatton fights. Somebody needs to make a stand. Sky-TV won't. The Board won't. They pulled Vann in recently for comments made in his entertaining autobiography, but Vann is now refereeing again and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he gets the job again on April 3. Marcus McDonnell is more than capable of handling a big fight, and Vann, in my opinion, showed bias in the Eamonn Magee and Ben Tackie fights (he wouldn't leave Tackie alone in the early rounds), so needs to be disallowed.
Does anyone know who refereed Hatton's fight with Thaxton fight?

I guess there are a few people out there who don't believe Hatton to be truly world class, but amongst fighters I would bet there aren't many who think of him as anything else.

Whilst Hatton's swarming non-stop style makes him seem crude, it's not an easy strategy to pull off without getting hit a lot, and Hatton these days doesn't get hit very much...he is also pretty nippy at using the angles on his opponents.

Whether or not Ricky ever becomes the dominant force in the division isn't the point, the point is he is world class, which is something Pinto has failed to demonstrate thus far, and therefore Ricky is the favourite. Doesn't mean there won't or cannot be an upset mind...

as he has moved up in class Hattons body attack hasnt really been a deciding factor like it was early on.....

If Pinto hits as hard and as accurate as his record suggests i would imagine a body attack strategy might not be a good idea....

I mean can you imagine going into a fight with a welterweight Tommy Hearns looking to work the body....

Often with big punchers though, a body attack is the best strategy, provided it is used judiciously.

A big puncher is less likely to let their hands go if their ribs get caved in every time they bring their hands up.

however, the body attack has to be set up with jabs and straight shots, before dropping down, or left hook to the head followed by a shot to the body.

In Hatton's last fight against Tackie, only 35% of his shots were to the body....

true true, but a body puncher is less likely to go looking downstairs is everytime he steps in and drops his glove he gets nailed by a long right.....
I guess it depends on who can impose their style on the fight, which is where experience will come into play....

I haven't seen Pinto so I can only imagine (or dream, as happened the other week) about his ability.

One thing seems certain - his fists are quicker than those of Tackie and Phillips. This could be a big problem for Hatton as he seeks to safely close the range.

Why do I keep seeing Gatti v Robinson when I think of this fight?

Don't know about who wins. I can just see Pinto throwing these fast, rangy, slashing punches and surprising Hatton, who can't move his head quick enough to avoid them.

And if Hatton can't get close what chance does he have with those short arms?

Might be getting carried away here. This Pinto better be able to fight!

Good point...I wish i could see the Pinto fight with Burton/augustus.

i think strength will be a big factor. If the tall Pinto has difficulty making weight..Hatton might be able to bully him to the ropes then land with the body shots...against the weaker Pinto...but maybe...Like you said..Pinto uses his hight and one-two`s the head off Ricky...iif Sky had any sense they would show us A full Pinto fight for us to get our teeth into.

Agreed, Mickey Vann is turning into a running joke - what must the Americans think everytime they see Vann looking after a Hatton fight -
House ref anyone?
What next, Vann's three brothers as ringside judges for Ricky's next fight?

It's a hard fight to call with any certainty - do you think the UK bookies offering 5/2 on Pinto has actualy seen him fight?
Or are they just taking the line that he's facing Ricky over here, with virtualy nothing in his favour?

He might be worth a bet though. Excellent amateur with the ODH promotion group backing him.
He's going to have an unbeaten fighter's confidence, and if he lands a few bombs early, anything could happen.
