Nicky Booth in deep trouble....

Post by Southpaw Stylist »

Boxing champion Nicky Booth is behind bars after being charged with burglary and racially aggravated harassment.

The 24-year-old from Strelley was remanded in custody by Nottingham magistrates.

He was charged with racially aggravated harassment likely to cause alarm or distress, harassment, burglary and intent to burgle.

The British bantamweight champion is the brother of Jason Booth, the world flyweight champion.

The court ordered Nicky Booth to appear again on Monday, March 22, via a video link.

A possible defence of his British title is now in doubt.

Booth was due to fight Johnny Armour in a Sky televised clash at Harvey Haddon Stadium in May.

The showdown should have taken place on February 14 but Armour pulled out with an injury.

Simon Block, general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, said: "Nicky Booth is in custody and cannot train properly for a championship contest.

"If there's no certainty on Nicky Booth being released from custody it's unlikely he will be able to fight in the near future.

"His fitness level will be among the issues we look at before deciding whether or not to sanction the fight.

"All professional fights must be sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control."

Nicky Booth's manager Mike Shinfield, said: "I knew Nicky had been in some sort of trouble but I did not know what for.

"I do not want to comment beyond that."

Assault i can believe but burglary? He needs a day job, wasn't Nicky Booth attacked in the street a while ago? Maybe there is more to him than we know about.

I know it's not always right to judge a book by it's cover, but if I were a victorian criminologist I think one look at the brothers booth would have then both swinging from the gallows. Either one of them may be whiter than white, but I would give them a wide berth if I saw either of them in a boozer.

Burglary apart, these charges sound trumped up.

The Booth brothers are a right chavy looking pair.
From the tips of their 'eleven aside' moustaches, to the soles of their Lacoste trainers.

Cracking little fighters though.

Why do people automatically assume the white guy (Booth) is guilty?

Why do British people not stick up for their own?

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Do people never make things up about celebrities (however minor) in order to get compensation and or make a name for themselves?

Will the alleged "victim" also go on to claim he has long lasting physical and mental damage that means he will have to be on the sick for the rest of his life?

Will they throw the book at Booth (with however little evidence they might have) for not only being white, but a white boxer?

Will they take the word of the alleged "victim" over Booth because Booth is white?

I didn't realise the alleged victims weren't British. You must have picked up some information in the thread that seems to have eluded me.

FlawedG - not having a go or anything mate, but I notice a few of your posts touch on racial issues - I always considered boxing to be relatively "racist free" - do you disagree?

As for 'sticking up for your own' mate, that's a bit of a dodgy one, I certainly wouldn't stick up for anyone involved in a racially motivated crime, no matter what their colour....

I would hardly consider Booth a major celebrity, and it's not like America where you can file a civil suit and make millions off of someone. Booth ain't even got millions to make, so I think it unlikely that this is someone trying to make money.

I don't know the ins and outs of this case, so I cannot comment further.

Loynesy, to "touch on racial issues" does not make someone a racist. I'm perhaps just not the most politically correct person in the world, that's all.

To answer your question, I'm sure boxing has its fair share of racist fans/participants (like all sports).

Priff et al,
I asked a series of questions, either answer them or ignore them.
