In a long-overdue rematch, IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham defends against Edison "Pantera" Miranda in Hollywood, Florida on June 21.
These two met famously (make that infamously) in Germany in September 2006 when Abraham, the home fighter of Armenian descent, shrugged off a horribly broken jaw from the fourth round to retain his title on a wide unanimous decision. However, five points were deducted from Miranda by New Jersey referee Randy Neumann - three for low blows and two for a blatant butt - and the Colombian thus had no chance of getting a decision. Plus, many felt the fight should have been stopped, such was the graphic nature of Abraham's injury. While you have to admire Abraham for his skill and guts in real adversity, he was given a huge amount of time in the fifth round by a ringside doctor inspecting the jaw - the doctor even looked to be 'treating' the jaw - and clearly would have been pulled out anywhere else in the world but for the fact one of the wild, aggressive Miranda's many punches caused the injury. Retirement would have cost Abraham the title.
"King" Arthur took eight months out and showed no ill-effects when he thumped Canada's previously unbeaten Sebastien Demers in three rounds on his return last year. In fact, he's thumped four opponents since Miranda, including Birmingham's Wayne Elcock in five rounds. At 28, the unbeaten champion, 26-0 (21), a 'big', strong, punishing, clever middleweight, looks better than ever.
Miranda, 27, has also improved from last time, with four wins out of five. The one setback came at the hands of Kelly "Ghost" Pavlik in seven ferocious rounds last year so is hardly a disgrace, although he was down three times in the end. As for the wins, Miranda crushed useful Willie Gibbs in the first round, snapped the unbeaten run of Allan "Sweetness" Green on a fine 10-round decision (a big, big win), belted the durable Henry Porras in five (Porras went eight with heavy-handed Carl Froch) and took out Contender man David Banks in three last time out in January, which was more than Liverpool's Paul Smith could do last year when the Liverpool man outpointed Banks.
The former street urchin has toned down his wild approach but still makes his punches pay. He is the only man to stop Britain's iron-jawed Howard Eastman - not even Abraham could stop Eastman - and his record of 30-2 (26) speaks for itself in terms of quick wins. Crucially, this rematch takes place on his American stomping ground of Florida which means Abraham is forced to make his first appearance outside Europe and only his second appearance outside Germany.
In terms of fairness, it is the only way.
Miranda is the kind of fighter who will never give anyone an easy night's work, a frenetic, dangerous handful, although you do wonder how he couldn't find the big punches to finish a stricken Abraham last time, even in Germany. Can you imagine Marvelous Marvin allowing Abraham to fiddle his way through to victory? If Abraham can survive and 'win' with a busted jaw first time, he should be able to come through away from home this time.
Should.

Hopefully it'll be available online via sopcast or something then.... really want to see this one.

I don't really have any preference as to who wins to be honest, but it'd be good for the sport if AA won so it keeps a possible fight with Pavlik a possibility down the line.

you forgot to mention that AA quit against miranda and when he was told he was behind on points and wouldnt win if the points were totted up at that point decided to carry on and run away from edson round after round picking up points from pantera's wayward slingshots.
having said that, abraham is one brave, tough mutha and is one of the most watchable fighters out there. its gonna be close...decision...pantera!

I'm actually not to fussed with this one. I was hyped for it first time round, but I just cannot see how Miranda can beat Abraham.

There might be an offical stream of this fight, as Abraham's promoter almost always runs one for his Euro fights - AA and Huck etc

For those bothered to stay up that is :TU:

AA should outbox him this time, though it'll be no joke if he gets caught by any of those bombs.

He's In good shape anyway. How did he make Middleweight. :o

Abraham should have no problem winning again. Miranda loses to every world class fighter he faces.

Dehydrating that much will only weaken him and probably get him hurt worse when Abraham hits him.

abs was unlucky first time round.

it was 1 right hand over the top that broke his jaw.

he was dealing with miranda fairly handily up till that point to. :box:

i still thought he deserved the decision even if u don't take any points from miranda.

Depends whether Abraham has a punch at that weight. I'm not convinced he does. Edison showed against Green he has punch resistance at the new weight, even with the knockdown.

I find it hard to believe he'll be as high as 190. I could believe 180.
