Re: Where now for Witter???
My main gripe with Witter is that for a guy who keeps himself in good shape all the time, he just doesn't fight often enough.1 fight in 2006, 2 in 2007 and so far 1 in 2008.
He's 34 now, so can't afford to take his time coming back.

PN - And you felt the need to mention Ricky Hatton? Why? I never did.
You could have mentioned anyone! Witter fans need to let go, there is no need to mention Hatton every time you debate your beloved Junior.
And DG's paedo comment was bang out of line, just ignore him mate, he's nuts.

Because you call Bradley a midget when he is the same size as your beloved Hatton, who is incidently the ring champion in the same division as Bradley, therefore making it a very good comparison and on comparisons Bradleys only 1 inch shorter than Witter. Hardly a midget hes a nice strong package at the weightCaptain Hook wrote:PN - And you felt the need to mention Ricky Hatton? Why? I never did.

He's with the wrong Promotor - and sadly no one else is remotely interested.
Add the two together and it spells dead end with nowhere to go.
... and I say that as a Witter fan.

Re: Where now for Witter???
Branco followed by Olusegun (obv not for the Euro title) wouldn't be a bad start, but even then he'll ahve to go through te mandatory procedures.
Olusegun is closing in on Witters title as president of the Who Needs Him Club, so maybe they could do each other a favour, but it's a far from ideal situation for Junior.
Boxings been more cruel to Junior out of the ring than it has in it. It just shows that your talent doesn't always get what it deserves. I'm not going to start feeling too sorry for JW though, cause he's no doubt earned a fornicating shit load more money than me ..... and he doesn't have to sit in front of this bastard computer working (I use the term loosely) for 37 hours a week whilst being BORED OUT OF HIS FCUKING MIND!!!. I hope he invests his pennies wisely and that they become fruitful

DG you know I'm pretty fair - paedo is taking it a bit far, not sure I'd appreciate it coming my way or see that overly funny.
Am sure you didn't mean it like that but this thing with you and Hatton is getting silly, childish.

I'm not even a big Hatton fan, I just backed him over Witter because you made Witter out to be the second fornicating coming of Ray Robinson. You can't be objective.
I read all the threads mate, you should try it.
Witter is a good figher, has little heart and couldn't draw flies to a dump. Fact.
I take criticism off you as a compliment.

Witters main problem is he can't throw straight punches and telegraphs his shots to high heaven, has shit stamina and workrate, and can't even throw a compact jab. But he's still quality when it comes to coutner punching. I'm not going to defend him, he showed his limitations last time. I'll still wish him the best and cheer him on though. And if he gets his shot at Kotelnik/Torres he'll pick up another belt but it must be said the future opportunites looks bleak.

Nothing wrong with a bit of passion mate, good for you
But I'm no Hatton lover, I'm not a Manc or a Yorkshireman, though I enjoyed my three years in Huddersfield - great area.
I just feel he gets a raw deal on here, while JW was lauded to high heaven. I can appreciate them both.

Re: Where now for Witter???
My argument was that Hatton and Witter should fight, because they were the best 2 at the weight in Britain and the World, there was an intense rivallry between them and it would have been one of the BIGGEST all British clashes ever. That is more far justification than the fight needs. It would have been great for the British fans and the sport over here. I know you don't agree but IMO Ricky (and possibly Billy G) bottled it as he didn't fancy his chances and didn't like the clash of styles, citing a hundred various excuses along the way. Hatton Vs Witter is far more an important fight than Hatton Vs Lazcano/Castillo(possibly)/Urango/Collazo/Maussa/Oliveira.Stewart etc
The last paragraph tells us why Hatton has had so much stick on here
I'm fuming about it again now (even after my Friday lunchtime smoke)

Re: Where now for Witter???
Witter is rated 10th by the IBF, he's not in the WBA rankings as far as i can see, the WBC have him at 3, and the WBO don't have him in the rankings either.
It would be the WBC title which would be favourite for him to go for, but Bradley isn't in a rush for a rematch, and i can't see any of the other champs giving Witter a shot in a voluntary defence.

Re: Where now for Witter???
Quite correct, the problem is we read things on the internet from American sources and see American spellings. Almost 100% of people pronounce harrassment the American way, which quite frankly sounds much better. As a kid I watched American films that said at the beginning "Color by Eastman Color or Technicolor" so I sometimes used the American spelling and had to be corrected. I think our spellings can be more complicated and make less sense, take centre for example.Asterix wrote:It's spelt "paedo", as in "paedophile". Re: Where now for Witter???
Witter had problems getting the right fights and drawing in the crowds as the champion so it has to be even harder for him now. I will be very surprised if he is still around in a couple of years time, never mind the five years he predicted. I think he went with the wrong promoter and should have stayed with Warren. He would have been on ITV bills, got more fights and more money. Sadly Junior lost everything when he lost to Bradley. I think he would find a comeback tough even if he was 5 years younger.

Re: Where now for Witter???
Witter had to leave fwank. While hatton was there he would never have done anything. At least he won the world title. Cruel luck he has had but he is not out of the running yet but its a tough road back. Hatton and his nonsense stopped the fight. Hatton ran for 8 years and we the boxing fans missed out because of hatton. Imagine if Benn eubank Leonard hearns hagler duran were so yellow.

Pederson?
Stephen Smith?
Thaxton?
Witter deserved it - WBC Champ not deserving?
Re: Where now for Witter???
As I said the reward was never there for Hatton, Yeah Hatton took his gimme's but if he was gonna have bigger fights he was gonna take on someone who could generate the bigger money.
Witter would not generate any more money than the likes of Pederson or Smith.
The reason Witter needed Hatton was because the Mancunian was the money generator, the Yorshireman coulndn't do it. That is why he was earning 60k purses for WBC title fights whereas Ricky was earning millions per fight.
Hatton didn't want to give Witter the payday because he didn't like him, not because he was scared.
Why fight Witter when he would get the same money for Pederson and Smith?
If Witter could have brought a PBF payday, or even a Urango or Collazo payday Ricky would have jumped at it.
However HBO would not touch Witter.
And if you compare respective resume's Hatton looks to be a clear winner

Hatton and Witter were 1st linked for the British Title when Hatton was selling 3/4000 tickets.
Hattons record is NOTHING compared to the fightter hatton oretends to be.
Calzaghe has a better resume despite wasting years fighting some crap wbo fights and JC is a better fighter than Hatton by MILES!!!!! ( not that you said he wasn't)
Hatton has been moved carefully for nearly 40 fights. As soon as Fwank was out of the picture Hatto struggled with everyone apart from Castillo.
Hatton has a better resume than Witter - but that means nothing, Hatton is as manufactured as Amir Khan.
In fact - take away the rabid drunk fans and ignorants and Hatton is just a brawler..basic at top level.
When he retires I will be glad.
