PAL to NTSC?????????

Post by overhand_right »

okay i got my orlin norris fight. but its in NTSC format. no problem forme, my video can play both PAL and NTSC.

but my bro in london wants to see the fight now. how do i copy a NTSC fight onto a PAL video?

is there a special kind of scart socket? anybody ever done it before? is it complex and is there a significant drop in picture quality?

questions, questions.

I've investigated this before, it's all but impossible. You can buy equipment for doing it but it's expensive and the transfer quality is apparently so so.

Most videos will play both anyway. I think even a pal only video will play ntsc but with the picture off centre, which can be remedied simply by using scart. (not sure about that last bit, I'm basing that on ntsc games consoles)

I didn't think it was all that hard, my old trader had a conversion scart and his copies were all fine. Ask Red Dragon he should know, or given your history maybe not :D I didn't think it would be all that difficult to be fair, but i could wrong.

Probably best if you just lend him the NTSC tape. You can't copy unless you have two NTSC VCRs.
But like Mr B says, nearly all UK videos and TV playback NTSC tapes in Pal ( which is better quality than NTSC BTW ).
American traders will generaly only send you NTSC tapes.
Other than that, you'll have to pay a lab around £50-100 to do a NTSC-Pal conversion for you via an ADAC machine.
Or plonk down a few grand a buy yourself one 8)

You need a piece if kit to convert the NTSC signal to PAL

Expensive, mate. Here's a link to the one I bought some time ago

You can get cheaper ones but they don't do a very good job.
