shane said he wont get his 1st amateur fight till next year,
but i sure would hate to be the kid who draws him in his debut.

He will be matched with someone within his weight and experience level. He might box someone with 0-6 bouts. I frankly don't expect him to be at the elite level, or even close, in his first bout. I'll try and find out when and where and be there so I can report back.

Huey - having Shane, Sr. for a trainer has to be a plus.

Whether or not he has his dad's talent remains to be seen.

That isn't always true. Some kids are better than their dads, while others aren't quite as good. Joe Frazier's kids weren't as good as him, but they weren't bad. Floyd Jr. has done better than his dad, but Floyd Sr. was a good boxer. Laila Ali is a good boxer, but her dad was an all-time great. The list goes on and on. If the father was great, it is hard for the kid to live up to all the hype.

they're just sons like like everyone else i hate when i hear somehbody doggingjc chavez jr. by saying he sucks he nothing compared to his dad...his dad is one of the greats its one in a million to be champ nevertheless great so why dog him or any other guys.....they all pretty good to me except maybe josh cobb being a son a of a fighter should not look so unschooled and lost as he did .... bash that dude he deserves it. ;)

I agree with most of the above. I can't say anything about Cobb b/c I have not seen him box. The kids do take heat though b/c the name recognition gives them advantages other boxers don't get. So the extra scrutiny comes with the extra benefits.

Unfortunately, it's a Friday night and with So. Cal. rush hour traffic, would take us several hours to get there so we aren't going. Jr. has been boxing in "closed - high school" bouts only. I don't know why he hasn't competed in a regular local show - he'd get more experience and better competition. Next time I see Sr. I'll ask him. I think this will be Jr.'s second bout.

that is odd, wonder how that works....is it just a few bouts or ...just one..??..im a big sugar shane fan, and sugar shane has never ran from anyone, hes a real throw back,
i hope he dosent go into traning his kid any other way, but thats gonna have to change once jrs open...

Jr. gets one bout at a show. The closed high school shows are fairly frequent, but I don't see why he's only boxing there. Have no idea why Sr. is doing this. Jr. probabably won't be open for awhile - he has to turn 17 and have 11 or more bouts.

One aspect of this forum that I really like it the clear, concise and in-depth comments and opinions made.

Shane Mosley, Sr. is one of the nicest people in the world and has been his entire boxing career. As long as I've known him (21 years), he has never been delusional.

Shane Mosley is an incredibly nice man who happens to also be one of the most skilled fighters in the world. Deluded?! Ok. You have clearly never met the man. He also has more heart than most fighters today. He goes right back in with anyone and yet never has a bad word to say about anyone.

In watching Juniors bout - I'm not impressed. It was sloppy on the part of both boxers and I really don't know why the referee stopped it, but in looking at the bout again, it appears Mosley's opponent gave up after being pushed against the ropes and mauled. Jr. didn't hurt his opponent. As I said in a previous thread, I doubt that we'll know if Jr. is good or not until he starts participating in local shows where the boxers have varying degrees of experience, skills and talent. As long as he continues to participate in closed shows with boxers who aren't any better or worse than he is, he won't learn and get better.
