KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Well gents, quite a bit to digest there I think
Firstly, stating the obvious, he's paying the price for being so easily matched - he's still well short of world class and the likes of Campbell would take him to school.
On the plus side, phenomenal hand speed and fighting heart.
On the minus side, given how many times he hit Gomez with clean shots there are real question marks over his power - his style is still really amateurish as he can't fight well on the insdie and he doesn't seem to be sitting down on his shots properly at any point, which I'm sure contributes to his apparent lack of power. If he stuck to his boxing he'd be so much better, but he really fancies himself as a power merchant and gets involved in tear-ups accordingly.
As for the chin, I think the jury's still out. On the surface it looks like he's chinny, but I'm sure he should be campaigning at light welter at least - Oscar got dropped a couple of times at Super Feather but subsequent events proved that was down to being weight-drained. The same could be true in Khan's case as he's so clearly outgrowing lightweight.
I just hope the realisation that he struggled with a Super Feather who had lost three of his previous six makes him realise he's got a long way to go and he becomes a bit more humble.

Same here, and I agree with everything you've said.Deserter wrote:I just hope the realisation that he struggled with a Super Feather who had lost three of his previous six makes him realise he's got a long way to go and he becomes a bit more humble.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
will only win a world title if it becomes vacant
he was drawn into a war by a totally shot super feather weight , he was floored and hurt by a body shot
slightly better than audley harrison

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Khan needs to take it sensibly. It will be a pressure fighter that beats him.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Khan ain't weight drained, he looked healthy to me.
This is the same as the Hatton career trail IMO, in that as soon as Khan steps up to real world class (which he probably won't until he's a three-weight world champion) he WILL be taken out. Gomez was supposed to be shot five years ago.

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Match him with Hatton in 09 for the title. Hatton is fading and with a tad more development Khan may be able to take him and take on the Hatton fan base as well and become the British torch bearer. Hatton would fancy his chances as well and would probably welcome it.

All i can say is Gomez was a few years too late. At 31 im sure he would have beaten Khan maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Tosh. Hatton beat this class of opponent handily. And Hatton didn't get taken out in world class either.Gray-Fox wrote:Khan ain't weight drained, he looked healthy to me.

Warren is trying to follow that Hatton career model for Khan but I don't think he's even that good enough - and I accept Ricky was favourably matched for a time.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Khan announced in the interview before the fight that his body fat has reduced from 16% to 1.5% in the past year. Assuming those figures are accurate (and I'm not convinced), his body fat percentage is so low it's actually unhealthy/dangerous. I'm sure there are some on here such as Stu Jones who are more knowledgable re. sports science, but I've read on a number of occasions that anything below 5% is unhealthy.Gray-Fox wrote:Khan ain't weight drained, he looked healthy to me.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
I suppose so. Gomez is certainly about the level of Jonathan Thaxton (comparatively speaking) and Hatton demolished him.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
If he can get dropped by super featherweights god bless him when he takes a shot of a light welterweight when he moves up.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Didn't demolish him but won every round after suffering a shocking cut.
And Thaxton is still better than Gomez now!

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
My view is the same as it has always been, and that is when he is matched fairly and with a title on the line, he will be beaten and by knock out.
He' s a massive lightweight, and yet he isn't even fighting true lightweights, but is still getitng clomped around and put down - God help him if he moves to light welterweight, and has to fight people from that division.
Khan is manufactured hype.

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
umm, how many times do people have to watch khan fight before realising he doesnt have what it takes?
He has no chin, no defence and no single shot power. He is not going to magically 'improve'. he is not 'ready' for the big boys and never will be. he got decked and roughed up by a shot michael gomez.
we have seen more than enough evidence to suggest amir khan will crash and burn at the highest level, if he even gets that far.

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Doesn't work that way though does it fella, which is why I referenced De La Hoya. He was dropped by the likes of the Italian Super Feather Campalla (not sure that the spelling's right there, but you know who I mean), but when he moved up showed fantastic whiskers against fearsome bigger punchers like Trinidad..Rob Magic wrote:If he can get dropped by super featherweights god bless him when he takes a shot of a light welterweight when he moves up.

Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
One hell of an exciting fighter when they match him "right", and thank god he's on terrestrial tv, cause no one else is.
The chin aint great, but he's good enough to survive a few more scares I hope, on his way to the OK corral. Those were some blinding combos he was firing, no idea how the insanely brave Michael Gomez stood up to some of those.
I reckon Khan hits plenty hard enough, just a fired up Gomez tasted blood there, and was never going to fold.
Khan came back brilliantly from some shaky moments, and Gomez was just fantastic - a force of nature in there. Khan has had his baptism of fire you could say..

bit of a difference between de la hoya and kahn.Deserter wrote:Doesn't work that way though does it fella, which is why I referenced De La Hoya. Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
I think a good pressure fighter like Gomez is the key to beat Khan. But someone fresher and bigger. Just like a southpaw with a good right hook with have Hatton not knowing where the next shot is coming from (i.e. Magee and Collazo), a pressure fighter who can cut the ring off a bit faster and throw sharp punches will surely break down Amir.Gray-Fox wrote:I suppose so. Hatton could be the worst fighter out there for Khan, IMO. Not that this will come even remotely close to happening.
Anyway, Khan learns his lesson. Realises he's not world class and that he needs Warren unless he wants to be left horizontal. Warren probably keeps his star fighter, and all is well.
It is a bit shocking when a young prospect like Khan is given the wrong opponent. When you get to see everything that he does wrong. We really get to see how manufactured fighters can be. This WBO ranking is no good for Khan at the moment.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
I think the point Deserter is making is relevant though.Rob Magic wrote:bit of a difference between de la hoya and kahn.Deserter wrote:Doesn't work that way though does it fella, which is why I referenced De La Hoya. Some fighters look chinny on the way up and guess what? Turns out they were chinny all along and they keep getting banged out!
But there are a few that do seem to be able to add a couple of layers to the old chin when it counts. Who knows, maybe Khan will?
For my tuppence worth I don't think he will but you never know!
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
It's being a bit optimistic to expect Khan to "develop" the iron chin that De La Hoya has, just because the Golden Boy had a similar experience on paper.
Re: KHAN - YOUR VERDICT?
Maybe Warren said to Gomez that he'll get a bonus if he gives Khan trouble. Gomez was extremely determined.Autobarn wrote:Anyway, Khan learns his lesson.
