Hoppa versus Big Bob
Hoppa versus Big Bob
The Daily Terror has mooted a match in either late August or early September between Hoppa and Bob Mirovic:

If this bout ever occurs, it will be the end of the line for one of them but is it worthy of Pay-per-View status. Don't think so!

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
Bob is old but i think he'd still have enough to beat hoppa
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
I would love to see it as a pay for view providing it has a good undercard. If only to give Big Bobby a reasonable payday. He deserves it.
But as a heavyweight fight I think we all agree it will not cause a blip on the world boxing radar. But that shouldn't matter at all, certainly i would rather buy a good aussie card than a Mundine debacle. 25 bucks would be a reasonable price i reckon.

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
That, I think, will be the problem. Mainevent have not had a pay per view card for under $40. I reckon this is the figure they need, with the small uptake lately for boxing, to make some cash. I don't reckon they would put one on for under $40, and I wouldn't pay that to see the old warhorse go around again.Grant wrote: 25 bucks would be a reasonable price i reckon.
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
would have to be a huge undercard to make it PPV worthy..
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
Wow, Hoppa is going to be the Australian Heavyweight Champion!
Will Solo still want a shot at the Title?

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
There is no way this would be pay per view, who would be dumb enough to pay for it?
If anything it would be on Fox.

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
From what we've seen of Hoppa so far his only tactic is to rush in and throw them.If Big Bob survives an early onslaught he will be too experienced, skilled ( compared to Hoppa) and able to last the rounds. At least Hoppa is prepared to take a chance and test himself and for that he deserves credit. Why for example ,won't a far more skilled Solomon Haumono take on Big Bob who has repeatedly asked for the fight?

Bob should win on paper, but he seems to have settled into the journeyman role now, so it depends if he actually TRIES to win rather than just survive.

thats what i think, hoppa has a little name value but not enough to sell a PPVBrute wrote:There is no way this would be pay per view, who would be dumb enough to pay for it?

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
Bob has been a good servent to the game in Oz, and about the world. But I don't think he has ever had the ability to headline a PPV. Hoppa never has, never will.
It's interesting that Rob Calloway hangs his hat on his fight with Bob as his best win at HW. Take that as you will.

I'll take that as the only better names on Rob's record being in his L column.toppity wrote:Bob has been a good servent to the game in Oz, and about the world. But I don't think he has ever had the ability to headline a PPV. Hoppa never has, never will.

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
These days Big Bob's flesh is weak, but the question is does Hoppa have the spirit?
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
Yeah, but Calloway has been fighting only at cruiserweight lately. He was not much over cruiser when he beat Mirovic.toppity wrote:Bob has been a good servent to the game in Oz, and about the world. But I don't think he has ever had the ability to headline a PPV. Hoppa never has, never will.

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
Hoppa now has an incentive to show a bit of spirit, as he has been supplanted as the family breadwinner by his 15 year old son, who has signed a $100k per year contract with the Manly Sea Eagles NRL club.
This must be a bit of an embarrassment to the great Hoppa and only a win over Big Bob and then a succession of winning fights over quality opposition will see Hoppa as last fiscally honourable.

Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
on a positive note, all the best to his boy. I hope his fathers indescretions do not taint his chances.
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
So long as he keeps his fingers out of other men's orifices he should do well.
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
although hoppa has to be positive i'm sure he doesn't expect to become the greatest heavyweight in history. infact avery time i see him interviewed he states that he is still a beginner and has alot to learn.
he has a bit of talent for boxing and no one knows including himself what he may be able to achieve. he may never win another fight but he has a chance now.
i think his main obstacle is going to be keeping his cool. knowing big bob he will constantly sledge hoppa to try and make him lose his concentration.
i think it would be good for aussie boxing if hoppa and soloman haumono can keep progressing through the rankings for some time. and mark de mori too.

Great quote. And a very interesting outcome.
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
I think the front row forward would beat the winger.
Re: Hoppa versus Big Bob
A boxing referee died and went to heaven. Stopped by St. Peter at the gates he was told that only brave people who had performed heroic deeds and had the courage of their convictions could enter. If the ref could describe a situation in his life where he had shown these characteristics, he would be allowed in.
"Well," said the ref, "I was reffing a game between Big Bob Mirovic and Hoppa at the Gold Coast. Big Bob was 2 points ahead, 1 minute to go. Then Hoppa got on the front foot and started pummelling Big Bob. Hoppa kept driving forward and had Big Bob holding on and then forced back into the corner covering up. Next Big Bob dropped to the canvas but as I felt Big Bob was clearly the better fighter all night, I ruled that he had only slipped and that Hoppa should not be awarded for the knockdown."
"OK, that was fairly brave of you, but I will have to check it in the record book." says St. Peter, and disappears to look it up. When he comes back St. Peter says "Sorry, there is no record of this. Can you help me to trace it? When did all this happen?"
The ref looked at his watch and replied "45 seconds ago."
