Reyes gloves and small ring different result

Post by tyson »

After Saturdays fight between Gomez and Khan i was wondering would the result been different if Gomez was the house fighter and had his preferred gloves Reyes which are supposed to be the punchers glove and a smaller ring to enable to keep close to Amir.
I thought the referee was very good and am sure other English refs would of stopped it sooner when Mike was under pressure especially when backed up in the 3rd or 4th with an array of punches. The ref allowed mike get into the fight and possibly could of let it go on a bit further but when looking back Mike took some flush shots and the stoppage was a good one. Although in America i doubt it would of being stopped at that point.

Could of made a difference, but who knows?
I felt Gomez just didn't throw enough shots after decking Khan, maybe a smaller ring would of helped him.

Definitely, the way to beat Khan has been shown. Cut the ring down, bob and weave, chop the head and body. With Gomez's perferred gloves and a smaller ring, who knows what would've happened.

I thought Sat's ring looked smaller than the usual Khan ring, but then again it might have been Gomez coming forward quickly. Either way, Amir didn't have his usual room to move.

Imagine Khan in a small ring vs Urbano Antillon. Antillon closes the gap very quickly, fights inside well and fights at a very fast pace.

Yeah Khan did seem to go back in straight lines on Saturday, another thing for him to work on.
As i said in another post it seems they are trying to change a boxer into a puncher, and i'm not sure that is going to help Khan, maybe its his natural instinct to get into the trenches, I feel he would be best suited moving and picking his shots , mixing in combinations.

No I don't think so... Khan was hurting Gomez ever time he landed, and he was too quick. I think Khan would eventually win a shoot out with Gomez also. Khan didn't take full advantage of the big ring, and still won convincingly.

Having said that I think it may be an error for Khan to where reebock gloves if he thinks himself somewhat of a puncher. I know there was some controvercy about him putting the reebock lable on some grant gloves.

Why do they have different size rings?

General consensus is that an aggressive fighter prefers a smaller ring to close down the opponent quicker, where as a boxer prefers a larger ring to work their boxing skills.

It's quite a contentious issue in the really big fights, and can be a bone of contention in negotiations.

I tend to agree with Auto though, the ring from Saturday appeared smaller than normal for a Khan fight.

Gloves don't Improve skills and brains. Gomez just comes forward and loves to fight being too brave for his own good.

Used a Reyes bag but only the bottoms hard as the tops so worn out It's soft to hit.

Reyes gear Is really expensive too for a Mexican brand.

I don't understand how wearing Reyes gloves would have made a difference.... its as if only Khan was hurt in the fight. He wasn't the one who got pressed to the ropes (via punches) in each round.... and floored twice.

While all 8 ounce gloves may weigh 8 ounces, the weight is spread differently with different brands, also the padding in Reyes gloves are much more tightly packed

Sorry, I don't know if that was a response to me asking "Why would wearing Reyes gloves make such a difference".... I didn't mean it from the point of view of "Why does Reyes gloves increase power"... but why won't it enhance Khan's power also.... its not just him who was hurt, I think he would have had Gomez out quicker wearing the Reyes.
