Just read this on teletext, looks like Joe is looking to make a big splash at ligh-heavy, It's all just talk at the moment of course, IMO Joe will win but on points.

Calzaghe targets Johnson KO

Calzaghe plans to add to his record of 30 KOs
Joe Calzaghe plans an early finish when he meets IBF light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson in the summer.
"If I smash Johnson to bits and do a good job it will send a challenge out to Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr," Calzaghe told the Sports Network site.

"I can't see the fight going more than six or seven rounds to be honest. I know I'm going to become a two-weight world champion, it's my destiny."

The first week of July looks the most likely date for Calzaghe-Johnson

yeah calzaghe should win it he knows too much for johnson

although johnson throws a lot of right hands and calzaghe is a bit prone to taking a right cross

so i think it'll be one of those hardly fought pts wins.

Sure is...Calzaghe would send a message to the other Light Heavies if he were to win inside 6 rounds but i can't see it happening. He will probably have to settle for points or a late stoppage if he stops him at all that is.

I think Joe will stop Glencoffe.....He was out on his feet against Woods in the last couple of rounds...i see the first 6 rounds will be even...but as the clock ticks on Calzaghe will begin to dominate with the ref stopping rhe fight early in the 11th with Johnson against the ropes and Calzaghe unloading. 8)

Hmm, I think people are being far too blaze about Calzaghe taking on Johnson, Johnson can bang and takes a hell of a shot. As for being out on his feet in the last two rounds, you must have seen a different fight from me, because he looked fine to me in the last 2.

Calzaghe and Johnson is a 50/50 fight in my opinion and although it is only 7 pounds i would think that Johnson would have the advantage.
I cant understand why Calzaghe is moving up when there are better fights at 168 for him, Honestly he has no chance against Jones or Tarver and he dosn't even have a proper belt at 168.

I think Calzaghe beats Johnson, by decision not a knockout. Why the hell is this fight in July though? They should be announcing it for a couple months time, Calzaghe should be looking to win this fight and keep the momentum going fighting every 3 months, not twice a year!! Joe hardly broke sweat in his last fight against Mgrthckan(sp?).

I think whoever wins, it's going to be a cracker of a fight, Johnson is an all-action figther, and so is Calzaghe generally.

I think Calzaghe will have to use his boxing brain a bit to beat Johnson, meeting him head on is a bad idea..I would be surprised if Calzaghe had the power to hurt him.

There's always the possibility Calzaghe will be stronger at light heavyweight, but he doesn't seem to have that sort of physique..

I have a feeling he looks like he doesnt have the physique because he takes so much weight off to make 168. He looks gaunt at weigh-ins.

Johnson is good, but I dont think he'll get close to Calzaghe. Outboxing Woods is a much easier assignment.

Exactly, Johnson may be packing a few extra surprises for Calzaghe up at Light Heavyweight, after all Calzaghe has never fought at the weight before. He should have had a few meaningless bouts before stepping in with someone like Johnson, well come on...it's never stopped him when he was down at SM.

You could be right about the physique, perhaps it's costing him muscle tissue, but Calzaghe has never at any stage looked very cut or defined, which leads me to believe he's not a naturally big man, or put another way, not a guy who builds muscle easily.

I suppose it could also be the type of training he does, thinking about it, none of Enzo's fighters are particularly built, so perhaps he doesn't have them doing weights at all...

He definitely has a chance of beating Tarver, and he'll get a proper belt if he beats Johnson. Tarver is no superstar, he got beat by Eric Harding, and was having problems in the rematch as well. Calzaghe can definitely beat Tarver, but Jones is probably one step to far.

I dont really think bulk would suit his style either, he wouldnt be able to throw with volume/speed he does at the moment.

Another thing, people forget Glencoffe Johnson is a former middle/super middle so he wont be much the bigger man if at all when they fight at light heavy.

More in the first fight than in the second...he was shattered, of that i have no doubt.
I think the size issue is not a valid one..Its not like Johnson has spent all his career at light heavy..personally i think that Joe is so much better than Clinton Woods....i think some of you guys are forgetting that woods got beat of David Starie and is hardly a world beater.......
