What can you guys tell me about Donnie long ?

I have seen his fight against tyson, but sadly none
of his other pro or amateur fights.

Have any of you guys seen his other bouts ? Or
met him, trained with or fought him ?

He was regarded as a bit of a prospect at one time but then ended up as cannon fodder. He used to call himself 'The Master of Disaster'. I remember he came over here and was almost decapitated by gary Mason in the first round.

He also had a great afro.

he made the veteran John 'dino' dennis's face very red.... Dennis was soon after blasted out by a comebacking Bugner.

Long like so many of tysons early opps was beaten before the first punch was thrown.

Well he was 15-3 before he met Tyson, after that everything went down hill. Became 16-10 (Correct me if i am wrong).

i guess he never recovered after Tyson.

He put together about 10 or 12 wins before being matched with James 'Broad-Axe' Broad, who was then a sh#t hot prospect and a very good boxer-puncher before he sadly became obsessed with the contents of the fridge and alcohol-drenched nights on the Vegas strip.

He lost to Broad via an MD which shows some quality despite others harsh words, and then he lost another 10 rd points nod to ex-champ John Tate.

Hence why he was viewed as Mike Tysons first test, and his first solid opponent- and why it was an eye brow raising result when Iron Mike banged him out of there in about 60 seconds.

After that loss he was reduced to cannon fodder for up and comers, although he gave Renaldo Snipes a good scrap.

He definitely was not 'crap' as Bennie says, who i assume has never been in a ring and hit in the face.

When he fought Renaldo Snipes, he didn't show much for about the first 8 rds, then had Snipes in serious trouble at the end. After the fight when he was interviewed, he was asked why he took so long to get going, and he answered "Hey I'm a fatman"

I mean, c'mon now my friend. Other than the Tyson blow out loss he gave some good accounts of himself against a decent level of opposition back in the day. So ...

Being a former fighter myself, I think "crap" really ought to be reserved for those opponents who are literally brought in off a barstool or out of a soup kitchen line by some unscrupulous ( & CHEAP ) promoters. "Fighters" who'd be hard pressed to spell j-a-b much less know how to throw one. You know? Now they're "crap".

But, an honest pro like Long, with actual victories to his credit over live bodies like "Dino" Dennis ( though he was long in the tooth by the time they met ) shouldn't be disparaged so cavalierly in my opinion.
