Please tell me how David Tua belongs in this discussion. Pretty odd selection of superfights.
However, to have lamotta beat armstrong and tua beat frazier is insane. Tua cant beat chris byrd.

I thought maybe he was talking about what happened if they fought today in their current state... until I got to Sanchez of course.mich3102 wrote:Please tell me how David Tua belongs in this discussion. Pretty odd selection of superfights.

Re: Super matches Who Would Win
He could have been saying that. Hagler and Hopkins are about the same age anyway. My God if i were to match hagler against a middleweight of this era it would be against a 160-168lb Roy Jones. In his selection of dream bouts, this guy chooses punch and clinch bernard and david "all i have is a left hook and if you hit me hard enough i will not even throw that" tua.
Re: Super matches Who Would Win
Ever see the Hopkins that fought Trinidad?
Re: Super matches Who Would Win
yep, i saw the bernard that fought echols twice, wright, claszaghe, eastman, joppy, taylor twice, de la hoya for 7 rounds and the list goes on. I think bernard is great (possibly one of the best ever)but he is not someone i would choose to watch if i had to make a dream match.

Re: Super matches Who Would Win
One of his dream matches involves David Tua. That should be enough. How about John Ruiz and B-Hop in a catchweight bout with Cory Spinks and Andre Dirrell in the co feature.
Re: Super matches Who Would Win
What does that mean? Does that mean we're supposed to imagine what the fights would look like if the fighters are really the same size?Hurricane wrote:

Re: Super matches Who Would Win
Very weird selection, especially Sanchez vs Monzon..

Re: Super matches Who Would Win
I actually agree with three out of your five picks. Hagler and Pryor most likely do win in the manner you say. I'll probably be one of the few to agree that laMotta would beat Armstrong in a middleweight bout. I think Armstrong, one of the 3 greatest fighters of all-time in my opinion, is miles above Jake in a p4p sense, but I believe the "Bronx Bull" would be too big, strong and tough of a middleweight for Armstrong to beat, especially with his style.Hurricane wrote:Henry Armstrong vs Jake Lamotta (Lamotta on points after super toe to toe slugfest)

As for the other two picks; Tua doesn't have the conditioning to keep up with Joe. I can see him stunning Frazier early on but eventually Joe would have him exhausted and barely hanging on at the end.
Monzon by absolute destruction in any round he choses to end it.
Re: Super matches Who Would Win
Monzon vs Sanchez would be quick and painless.
Frazier vs Tua would leave Tua standing possibly but he'd be shredded and pulped.
If you use the term "super" then they are "super" one sided.

Re: Super matches Who Would Win
What would the catchweight be? LaMotta was fighting below his natural weight when he was at 160. But LaMotta and Armstrong did face one common opponent: Zivic. Zivic went 2-1 against Armstrong, knocking him out, but he also had a series of fights with LaMotta. He won their first fight by simply going straight at LaMotta, but Jake won every subsequent fight. Even if LaMotta melts down to 157 (which is about as fair as you can get, since Armstrong had fought for a middleweight title), he beats Armstrong.Hurricane wrote:Henry Armstrong vs Jake Lamotta (Lamotta on points after super toe to toe slugfest)
David Tua simply doesn't like to get hit. Except for the Ibeabuchi fight, he usually got in his shell every time someone came after him. I mean, look at all those fighters who won all those rounds from Tua before getting careless and getting knocked out. Frazier wouldn't get careless. He wasn't that type of a fighter. He was never knocked out in his prime (no, of course he wasn't in his prime for the Foreman fights!), despite getting into the ring with some excellent fighters.Hurricane wrote:David Tua vs Joe Fraizer (Tua by ko after big punch both rocked slugfest)
I hate to say it, but I'd pick Hopkins. He was a smarter fighter, and better on the defense.Hurricane wrote:Bernard Hopkins vs Marvin Hagler (Hagler on points after super close fight)
Um, at a catchweight of 147? This matchup is stupid.Hurricane wrote:Salvador Sanches vs Carlos Monzon (Sanches on points after close epic boxing)
At 140, Pryor. At 147, Cotto's best weight, Cotto.Hurricane wrote:Aaron Pryor vs Miguel Cotto (Pryor by ko after slugfest)
