That was the headline in the Metro today - always good for a laugh!

The Times had a more realistic:

"Harrison unlikely to find Dutchman a tall order."

"Always a supreme self-promoter, Harrison now promotes and manages his career, which has meant he has spent as much time talking up his opponent, who holds the lowly WBF heavyweight title, as he has talking up his own chances."

Which just about sums it up.

The times proper hate Audley Harrison.

The thing that bugs me about The Times is not that they hate Audley, just that they don't seem to know much about boxing when presenting the arguments. This bloke recently wrote an article to show how crap Audley was in which he 'uncovered' how Audley was fooling us in this fight by doing 'research' on the WBF and finding out it wasn't a very high profile organisation. This poor bloke had obviously spent a lot of time asking experts, and comparing their lists of champions to discover something that everybody already knows. I could have told him this for nothing. It'd taken him very little time. Hell, if he had looked at the interviews made by both participants in this fight they'd have told him that themselves. What gets on my nerves is they have good sports coverage when it comes to football and rugby union, then some guys writes this nonsense. I mean revealing that the WBF is not a high profile title is like revealing that Audley Harrisons first name is Audley. Surely it didn't require a bloke putting in a lot of work, and a whole article to tell us that???

Harrison gets bad press, but at the end of the day he's the best chance we have of winning a world title. The rest of our guys are going nowhere on the world stage. The british press always love a loser, Harrison seems like a born winner to me they don't seem to like that too much. This Hisersia is not the best fighter in the world but its only his 15th fight, he's talking about fighting San or Hofmann in couple fights time thats good progress for 17th/18th fight by his 20th fight he'll be in with the big boys. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Yes Ron Lewis. True, you don't need much research to find out the WBF and £3 will get you a pint of stella.
But at least he knows a bit more about boxing than Mike whatsisname of the Metro, who seems to think if Aud wins Sat night it's Glory Glory hallelujah.

The thing is people are looking too much at the title and forgetting that the opponent is ranked highly in the EBU rankings which is the real reason he is fighting this guy. The doubters all seem to be picking away at the title when Audley himself has said he thinks the same effectively. Any critic who knows anything would not use this to attack Harrison.

Hurricane I agree wholeheartedly with your viewpoint too. Typical broadsheet coverage of more minor sports.

Today (Saturday, the morning of the fight), they put this in. For a paper that is supposed to be so respected, you'd think they could outline his weaknesses in a more adult fashion.

He was originally signed up by the Corporation for 15,209 bouts but the first nine were so miserably one sided that they lost interest and their own commentators fell over themselves to criticise his choice of opponent. It was, I thought the end of a never-lovely relationship, but just maybe Richel Hersisa, the WBF heavyweight champion, can, by knocking him out, restore our pride in Audley.

Forget the fight, the real prediction is how many times will Jim Neilly:
a) F**k up in general
b) State a totally incorrect fact
c) Just sound genuinely confused
d) Call one of the fighters previous opponents "decent" when true Boxing fans know he is just a fat Slovakian journeyman

We should create a drinking game based on what the commentators/ Steve Dunce and the rest of the *ahem* experts say.....

Have a shot of whisky every time Steve Dunce says; "Lets get it right?"

Have a shot of vodka every time Gary Richardson tries to convince a boxer that his opinion is correct. Have two shots of vodka if Gary Richardsons opinion is not correct.

Have a gin of tonic every time John Inverdale asks if Richel Hersisa is a credible opponent. Have two if he suggests/asks that Audley should step up in his next fight.

That sort of thing..........
