no but with amir khans unbeaten record and the hype machine that is the british press, its okay to romanticise the idea that amir could be the next naseem and dominate for a few yrs...

but i guess pacs utter brilliance against diaz just wiped any (unrealistic) ideas i may have had about amirs credibilty against the top names out there right now.

It's just your standard Trash-Talk. He is just keeping his doors and options open by saying stuff like this, because guys like you will get all excited and talk about it.

I doubt Khan has any plans whatsoever to fight Pac any time soon. He is most likely focused on getting a fixed trainer.

the amir khan debate seems stuck in two polarized halfs fromt those who see him as a new audley harrison, an amateur star who just doesn't have the same style or impact as a professional fighter to those who believe he will be a superstar and potential title winner at two or three weights...
the evidence in the ring so far doesn't vindicate the latter but he is young and learning and obviously has talent and those are strong plus points on any resume, he has fast hands and decent offensive skills and throws very very accurate combos...these are good advantages too...
however he seems open to getting caught and lacks some defensive patience it seems, he walked onto shots against gomez and even more pointedly against limond...it isnt just about how good your chin is in terms of how you react to a good punch its also about momentum of a shot, the type of punches you expose yourself to and your body positioning and where a shot lands...
if your swinging sometimes a less powerful shot will knock you cold as you provide energy for a puncher to counter, in other words a good defensive fighter has a solid guard and plenty of head movement and knows when an opponent is " gone " and when to unload...
the amount of times we have all seen someone rush in when they have someone stunned but not out of it then get ko'd themselves is probably quite high...
khan got ko'd by limond in imho - he touched back down during the count, i cant believe that this issue wasnt focused upon much more by the tv commentary...he was clearly knocked out as he went back down and wasnt back on his feet by 10, watch the ref faff about when this happens, its like he is saying " amir what are you doing ? "...
limond was very unlucky and that fight was much more significant than the gomez one despite gomez putting up a great fight and nearly getting khan out of there imho

The fact you've all reacted and seen fit to comment means the object of the excercise has been achieved.
Boxing at this level isn't just about what you do in the ring, its about how you manipulate joe public, and the media in general.
PR and Marketing that's all it is.
OK boxing anoraks like us see straight through it, but the millions of casual viewers will buy into this big style.
Does Khan stand a remote chance against Pac Man ? Not a prayer.
Does Khan know that ? Of course he does.
Will he become good enough ? Who knows but one thing's for sure, his selection of a trainer is critical.

I hope this doesn't sound spiteful but i can't wait til Khan faces a decent fighter and gets ironed out. He seems decent enough (if deluded) but I cannot stand the ridiculous hype.....and the poor layman who is just a casual fan has no alternative but to swallow it.

Same here, I'd love to see Khan go on and do well, the trouble, I think, is that he's been scrutinised by the media and joe public since he turned pro. Fighters such as Kel Brook, similar age and record, are going around unnoticed and learning their trade (and making mistakes) away from the public glare.
Maybe amongst the boxing anoraks on here (myself included) we all feel abit resentfull that Khan is getting all the attention, when other equally talented young boxers get no publicity at all.

Lets hope he does do well though, for the sake of boxing in this country. We need someone in the public eye what with Hatton and Calzaghe nearing retirement.

I don`t think it harsh..
Audley won the WBF in his 15th fight about 3yrs after going pro.
Amir won the commonwealth in his 13th fight within 2yrs of being pro.

Not alot in it really, is the commomwealth title any better than the WBF? .. I`d put them on a similar level.

He and his team have built him into such a `next big thing` that a loss will prob be the end for him much like Audley.
I think there should have been somebody calming the hype down - and telling Amir to button it from the start.

But at the end of the day, he lacks two very important ingredients to reach the top and stay there .. a good chin and a good punch .. without a good punch you have never got that get out of jail card.

I thought he lost twice Vs Marquez, the Flyweight belt was hogged by Thais and Diaz was the right champ.

Hatton won a title at a higher weight class too picking the right champ, so did Rees fighting M'baye.

Pac's best wins are over shot fighters. It's a Mexican merry go round with Pacquiao.
