Okay -we have discussed the actions of Joe Cortez on another thread... but is Lorenzo the worst current titlists (and he is likely to get the full belt).
I'm sure Kevin Mitchell and Nicky Cook must be wanting to get a WBC ranking soon.

WBC refused to make him a champion and ordered a rematch.
Would of been better to award Soto a tko win and the belt.

A bit of a harsh words there - Lorenzo was definately not in any shape to continue, not through the back of the head shot, but he was gone before that.
Whilst, I am not defending Joe Cortez in any way. He completely bottled it from calling a "break" when there was four free hands and letting an injured fighter go unattended for about 10 minutes while discussing the rules. However, I am a firm believer that the referee's decision should be final (especially one which officials had about 10 minutes to discuss) and really the result should have stood and the championship go to Lorenzo. Immediate rematch yes.
Note: Not saying I agreed with the announcement, but am saying if that was the final decision of the ref and officials at the time - then the result should stand. It sounds like the result (Lorenzo W DQ) is still standing, but he's just not going to be declared the champion. To me, that makes it more confusing and stinks of Sulliman's mexican biasness.

Agreed they pulled the same shit when when Rodolfo Lopez (suprise, surprise a mexican) lost by TKO to Matsuda in a wbc eliminator because of a bad cut looked to be caused by and ruled to be caused by a punch - was later changed to a NC by the WBC. And Lorenzo was a terribly bad sport but in boxing when there is so much at stake fighters do anything to win so its upto the officials to get things right. I am of the opinion that Cortez is a wanker.
