Surely you're aware of the holy grail of the Great White Hope. What you're reading about here is more the satisfaction of watching the product of a cynical boxing manager fail rather than the boxer himself.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone on this forum who enjoyed Kelly Pavlik almost getting KO'd by Taylor in their first fight because despite a black boxer dropping the white one the circumstances were completely different. Closer to reversed in fact.
Your logic is very poor and largely unstructured. Your Kelly Pavlik example is both presumpsory and irrelevant to the question at hand. The white hope thing was in the Johnson era and not since - the only people who talk it up are journalists who take the easy path to an article. I'm not saying race doesn't feature in boxing, it does.....but to pretend there's some conspiracy to find a white heavy champ mthese days is laughable.

These days it is especially irreleavnt as in recent years the majority of the heavy champs were white.

And besides I have never heard Tye Fields hyped by anyone - he was always an accident waiting to happen...and recognised as such.

Jaysus with each post it seems your IQ lowers..... They were heavies....who clearly were white...but at this time there was no concerted political movement to find a 'white hope' to beat a black champion....this only happened in the Johnson era.

The era of the modern 'white hope' is a myth.....excreted by lazy journalists. I mena look at the facts - the biggest earning heavies of the last 20 years are all black - Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis...... The klits, Valuev, Chagaev, Morrison etc earned considerably less.

To repeat myself - race DOES mean something to some people but is not the sole, overriding factor..... for example Calzaghe has earnt far less per fight than Benn, Eubank, Hamed despite being a superior fighter by most accounts.

overhand_right - I will say this as nicely as I possibly can; but you are resembling someone swimming against a too-strong tide, but still, against all reasoning and out of pride, refusing to give in. But ultimately you will drown.

E, I'm not sure which of your traits I find least amusing. Your arrogance or your ignorance.

However, throw them together and they make a wonderful clown.

Are you deluded or just completely misinformed?

Go teach Larry Holmes your theories about the white hope myth. He might have a tale or two about the racial hatred he experienced prior to his fight with Gerry Cooney -- or the direct line to Cooneys dressing room from the White House to congratulate Cooney if he were to win. There was no line to Holmes dressing room.

This last sentence is a corker, given that everyone on this thread gets the joke other than you.

ooooh i bet you're happy with your puerile play on words...I bet you're rubbing yourself up in peanut butter and trying to eat yourself.

But to put you straight - my so-called arrogance is born of being brighter than fvckwits like you...and my ignorance? There is none.....ignorance is just a word that idiots like you paint on a person when they cannot actually grasp the essence of their opponent's argument.

Have you decided yet?

Oh suddenly you can speak for everyone? What are you collectively telepathic? No you're a ma n who is about as sharp as a turd skewer.

Oh Larry Holmes good example...... the same multicultural open minded man who made racist comments against Mrciano and Cooney?

Not that I care...beacuse I'm just not that hung up, and I think freedom of speech allows the man to say what he wants. But your risible holier than thou faux rationalisation is a joke to behold.

Now please, if you can, using your crude grammatical tools and fumbling expressions, explain this so-called joke on me that I am clearly not sharp enough to get but that a fvckwits such as yourself are finding so amusing?

If you can't believe that

Tommy 'The Duke' Morrison earned more from boxing and endorsements than Tyson, Holyfield & Lewis did before they all won world titles

or that Calzaghe fighting on Sky isn't comparable to Benn, Eubank & Hamed taking world title fights on ITV

or a white American Heavyweight champ would be particularly lucrative in purses & endorsements (moreso than say Hasim Rahman after he beat Lewis)

then i don't think there's any point in anyone here trying to convince you otherwise

Yes, E, I have decided.

Obviously I didn't pay enough attention to The Twat Factor in your ridiculous posts.

But I'm now sure that your least redeeming quality is the fact that you are a total twat.

How's that?

Asian heavyweights Enoch? - lemesee

Valuev is a Russian with Tartar/Asiatic mix - which would mean he is mixed race

Chaegev is also Tartar (Asian who are direct descendants of Ghengis Khan) and Muslim!

Ibraimaghov is a Chechen (Asian) and a Muslim.

Oleg Maskaev was born in Kazakhstan (which is in - yup Asia)

Because a fighter is Russian does not mean he is a white European - if you look at fighters like Yuri Arbachikov, Kostya Tsyzu,
Vasiliy Jirov - they are obviously of Asian descent.

Please specify exactly what racist comments Larry Holmes made about Cooney or Marciano?

On Cooney, Holmes said 'I don't fight for black people, or white people, i fight for all people'

On Marciano 'He couldn't carry my jockstrap'

Please enlighten us, oh learned historian. Or are you just making stuff up again? (a straight answer will do -- don't feel obliged to thumb through your thesaurus and construct another of these bizarre long winded and wordy prose-type responses, it makes you sound a bit like Raef from The Apprentice, who of course is widely regarded as a total c-u-n- t.)

It looks like the forums self-appointed teacher 'E' actually knows fook all about what he's talking about (but will and try throw everyone off track if he crams enough big words into his sentences and writes in an authoratative tone).

But then again we all knew that.

DG adds his contribution.

Tye Fields is a heavyweight who can not fight.

Big white Heavyweights get hyped up all the way to the title or big money.

Peter Mcneeley - Tye Fields - Lou savarasse etc

As Tupac said...

Thats jus the way it isssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss - things will never be the same.....thats just the way it isssss

Oh YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

By eck that Fields was shit. Incredibly green, he looked like a hillbilly brawler - squared up, arm punches, wide swinging.

Terrible. Barret is a competent heavyweight - made to look fabulous.

Good luck Barret - be a good fight for our Audley, sorry your Audley.

Isn't Barret being linked with a fight with David Haye? Supposedly was being talked about if he beat Fields and now talks are continuing. I think more likely he is being used as a backup should the Rahman fight fall through after his Toney fight

I dont think Barret is right for Williams at all.

Barret is a big guy who can fight at pace even now. Danny has been handling guys recently who come at him, have him in trouble and blow their load when they try to get him out of there. I dont think Barrett would do that he's never been one who punches himself out, also despite the recent KO I think his chin is good enough.

Barrett is definately a guy Williams should not be going for in my opinion.

Barret and Williams are in similar places in the scheme of things.

Kind of good workman like Championship sides with good cup wins against bigger teams in the past few years.

Perhaps you might call them Cardiff and erm, Barnsley.

So to me, they should be trying tp pick off a team like Golota, Rahman, Ruiz etc. Or Newcastle, Middlesboro, West Ham - to stretch the analogy to breaking point.

Pointless playing each other - still be championship sides wouldn't they?

Itll be interesting to see the rankings for the big 4 now Barrett has had this win. In the heavyweights it seems it doesnt necessarily matter who your fighting, you just have to be active and winning and you'll be ranked pretty well, while he hasnt fought in a while now (I dont think, I havent checked his record in a while) Kali Meehan is a good example of this. I expect Williams will be in some of the rankings too if he beats McDermott convincingly.

Barrett in the past has found out a lot of guys, Guinn, Beck and while he didnt beat him he showed Joe Mesi that he wasnt as good as was being made out. So Haye could play on that.
