He was in his prime against James Douglas and look what happened... Lewis had the tools to beat him and when he showed Tyson he wasn't scared of him Tyson would have reacted the way he always did when confronted with adversity...jackallensfc wrote:if mike tyson in his prime fort lennox lewis in his prime who would win this time round

He was twenty four when he fought James Douglas...Maybe twenty four is the retirement age in the U K but it isn't in the U.S.
Everytime he fought somebody who wasn't who scared of him he folded like a cheap suit even if it was a tomato can like James Douglas or Kevin McBride...

It's ok... People are and were blinded by Tyson's early success..lukesfc wrote:woops i got mcbride and douglas mixed up
my bad
The Queen should knight Lenox Lewis...He's an amazing man and boxer...He would have done well in any era...
People are blinded when it comes to Tyson...He lost to Douglas and Holy at 24, 30, and 31...He should presumably have been at or near his prime at those ages...He was 36 when Lenox beat him but Lenox was 37.

Tyson always looked less impressive against taller fighters, Lewis was better in allmost every aspect than any of those. As well Tyson admitted in the post fight interview , when asked if he felt he could have beaten Lewis in his prime " I could never beat him, he's just too strong ."
Re: mike tyson (prime)
you simply don't know much about boxing, taken from a simple fact that you Bring McBride into this.Everytime he fought somebody who wasn't who scared of him he folded like a cheap suit even if it was a tomato can like James Douglas or Kevin McBride...

I was a little harsh when it comes To Buster Douglas...But McBride was indeed a tomato can...cultus wrote:you simply don't know much about boxing, taken from a simple fact that you Bring McBride into this.Everytime he fought somebody who wasn't who scared of him he folded like a cheap suit even if it was a tomato can like James Douglas or Kevin McBride...
He folded against Lewis and Holy but those men were good fighters not tomato cans...That was my point...
Even the famous Joe Frazier said that Tyson did well against fighters "who didn't hit him back" for whatever reason...

Re: mike tyson (prime)
Both are great fighters - Tyson had huge power, fast hands, and good at cutting off the ring - Solid chin too - Lennox used his size well, safety first type fighter, good jab, big right hand......used uppercut well.......so/so chin.....
Prime Vs Prime.......Tyson feasted off guys that wanted to back away and not engage him.......I see a prime Tyson cutting off the ring on Lennox and forcing him to trade backing away........If Lennox could get through the first 6 rounds he might be able to bang out a Dec......
My prediction would be Tyson by TKO inside of 8 rounds...

If peak Tyson landed the sort of punch on peak Lewis that he landed on Berbick I think it would be lights out for Lennox.

Re: mike tyson (prime)
Mike Tyson having a "solid chin" is so overrated. Lewis was knocked out twice, and he avenged both defeats. Tyson was knocked out six times, and he didn't avenge any of those defeats. Tyson's fundamental flaws are more of a liability than Lewis's chin.

Re: mike tyson (prime)
Lewis avenging his KO losses is laudable but it doesn't alter the fact the KO's occurred. And they were bad one punch KO's by guys who no one would rank amongst the premier heavies of all time.Big Bad John wrote:Mike Tyson having a "solid chin" is so overrated. There seems to be a tendency these days to downplay the McCall loss and claim Lewis could have continued. In my opinion when a ref motions the fighter to walk towards him and that fighter then stumbles into him then it's time to wave it off.
