Okay. Thanks for clearing that up 'Arnie'.

David barnes does not have the power to move beyond domestic class, european at a stretch add that to the fact he has'nt got the heart/guts to win a hard fight when the going get tough. Its hard to see him progress much further. But he is naturally talented.
Think Barnes showed alot of heart in his win over Vincent, forget the contraversial scoring, after the 7th or 8th David looked finished, he could of pulled out then, but he got himself together and actually started to turn the tide a bit.
Also against Okine, he showed tremendous heart to keep in that fight, alot of boxers would have folded earlier than he did.

Old bones,
Stop the mitigation argument !
Barnes was beaten hands down by Vincent.
You know it, I know it, the whole world knows it.
I've watched David all his career and to me there's no doubt his best work was pre 2003.
If he's turned the corner, got back to basics, sorted his private life out etc, then no one will be happier than me.
However I dont buy into it just yet.
Why did he leave Brian Hughes ?
Why did he split with Arnie ?

yes i did hear he was missing sessions at your gym, so thats fair enough.

Is he with Bob Shannon now?
Sometimes it takes a boxer a few trainers to connect with the right one.

Thanks for that Terry.

We will know more about Barnes after his fight with Morrison, both are trying to prove they can still move up in their careers.
If Barnes is anywhere near his best then Morrison is in for a very hard night, Morrisons style of coming forward and thowing shots should play into Davids hands.

David Barnes left he Collyhurst camp because of the old reason of being surrounded by friends and hangers on who thought they knew best. These 'experts' were the ones who advised against him fighting Hare in Halifax (too risky) but then suggested that he fight Okine and Ali (on the Hatton bill...to increase his profile and exposure). When it went wrong, they pointed the finger at his training and management team instead.

I hope that David has turned a corner and can tap into his undoubted talent.

I can't agree with that about Barnes and the often used phrase "the better the opponent, the better the performance", yes, good performance against Hare, no doubt about it, but Vincent, Nuumbembe and Okine were class opponents and IMO he lost all three. That's not to suggest he performed badly, but he didn't excell. Against lesser able opposition he has looked a lot better.

i'd favour lynes.

with his stick and move tactics.

it's certainly a more up for grabs fight than the witter one anyway.

Read on ESB's british forum Barnes needed 3 attempts to make the weight.

Why did he go down to Light Welter then?

This is a tricky one to call. Morrison is a bit 2 dimensional and limited, but he is a trier and consistent. I've never been convinced with Barnes. He demolished Hare, but unfortunately Hare had been found out before and since. At the time I wasn't impressed with him vs McIntyre, but McIntyre is obviously a lot better than I, and a few others, were giving him credit for back then.

I've heard these fantastic things about him training, but its just never translated to the ring.

If Barnes fights as he did vs Bami - then I think Morrison wins.

Hi, yes, I am involved with the Collyhurst gym. Brian Hughes is my Dad.

'Arnie', thanks for answering on my behalf. Not sure it is accurate but it is much appreciated. :TU:

if u watch the vincent fight very close... vincent was applyin a lot of pressure and most of his shots were hittin his gloves thats where people r gettin it wrong.. ali fight david didnt train rite and wasnt in the rit e frame of mind to many people cumin out the wood work tryin to be his mate.. and as for the okine fight he did get knocked down in the 4th he got caught cold but the was controlin the fight.. he hurt his left arm and from then on it went down hill !!! theres no doubt david has the heart of a lion... and he will go on to win a world title in the nx year or 2.... thanx
