Peden/Campbell Editorial Note

Post by HOGBEAR »

"Campbell dropped his hands and stuck out his chin to mock Peden. Peden then threw a left hook to the chin that put Campbell down and out"

Campbell did not "stick out his chin." He dropped his arms only.

Tell it to Franklin McNeil of the Star Ledger

We are not supposed to put our own opinions, thus the editor who entered the result only echoed the (supposedly  ) eyewitness reporter.

He did not tuck his chin, so effectively he sticked it out

Unless you think the footage was doctored, the fact that Campbell did not "stick his chin out" is a FACT, not an "opinion." If anything, those who saw the fight on FOX have a better grasp on what really happened than someone like Frank McNeil, who only had the chance to see it once live, and might've been drinking his beer at the time anyway.

It's your database; do whatever you want. I think the way it's worded now is inaccurate.

BTW, "opinion" is what boxrec has for an editorial comment on the Vitali/Byrd fight. "Vitali injured his shoulder in the third round." Yeah, right. I'm sure a licensed psysician conducted a medical examination between rounds three and four and came to that conclusion. Or, are you taking Vitali's OPINION on when he separated his shoulder?

I'm sure the editors who entered the comment appreciate your opinion.

Blue was referring to the fact that editors shouldnt put their OWN opinion. How is that relevant to the Byrd-Vitali comment. Maybe I missed something and Vitali has become a Boxrec editor?

I see your point, but it seems to me that the goal of boxrec's editorial comments is to avoid subjectivity and to report facts. Just because Vitali started feeling pain in the third round doesn't mean he separated his shoulder during that round. The fact that Vitali said it doesn't make it "objective." (Hey, maybe Vitali has become a boxrec editor!)

Besides, Evander Holyfield says he separated his shoulder in the first round of his fight with Chris Byrd—I don't see that note underneath that title fight. He had surgery and everything, just like Vitali. (I suppose if Holyfield had quit, the note would be there?)

As for Peden/Campbell, I still don't see how it's an "opinion" that Campbell behaved exactly how I described. Watch the fight for yourself and see how you think the events should be described.

Hey, you guys have your hands full with this project, and I appreciate it and this forum in which I can whine. I don't want to come off as a surly grouch. I'm just offering my...erm...opinion. (There's that word again!)

I agree with HOGBEAR on this. I personally think that the editotrial note for Peden-Cambell should be removed. With the Vitali note, it should just say that he tore his rotator cuff and not say the exact round (because as he siad, there was no doctor examination in between rounds).

Just my two cents and as HOGBEAR said this is your site and you can put up whatever you want. But personally, I feel that these two editorial notes are inaccurate.

Kudos, boxrec editors! I see the Vitali note was changed:

"After the 9th round Klitschko claimed a injured shoulder and the bout was stopped. He was later diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff."

Sounds objective to me.
