Yeah, he had 8 rds last time out so things will hopefully move on more smoothly.

I'm not going to say any more on this thread. Reckon opinion will U-turn on Murray after he beats Meager in style / or in a great fight.

Right now Murray needs the excellent performance that he's capable of. As someone says, Meager is the PERFECT foil. Murray has all the infighting skills he needs and hopefully it works out. Hopefully no bad head clashes, etc.

Ultimately we can keep on coming up with reasons for this & that. The reasons for not being at his best have been documented. But the big fight's less than a week away now and all that counts now is the action.

Khan is another level talent wise above Murray.
Far more athletic and gets hit a lot less.

Khan would KO him purely from a barrage of shots.

IMO Murray needs to prove the doubters wrong - one step at a time. Which he is thoroughly capable of doing, especially if he wins the British title. He has the chance to look brilliant vs Meager. What Murray can do is become a very good British champion, for starters. The British title is a gap in the Khan body of work & then it will be a natural.

OK, if Murray beats Meager, there is the notion that Khan wouldn't take the fight, if Murray ends up looking hot. But then, if that were the case, there would be some public pressure for Khan to fight Murray and if nothing came of it, Murray's image would improve a lot.

Khan has the biggest promoter in the UK, is big at the weight, fast and has a style that has refs beggining to step in after the first flurry that goes unanswered. If you fight Khan, you're up against the system & you know it. So I would go in to a fight like that with plenty of experience in long fights vs boxers. Khan is vulnerable under pressure, especially in the mid stages of fight, and I would make sure I've had the fights to prepare me.

I think the British and the Euro belts would be a great route for Murray. One of the super feathers like Arthur or Mitchell will surely end up at lightweight once Khan has moved up. If Murray had British and Euro belts, he could get a big scalp, possibly even a former WBO champ.

Also, if Murray does look great vs Meager, then you would think that 2 hot prospects would meet when the fight has a chance to be bigger. That's what the business side of boxing would dictate.

It all has to start on July 11 for Murray. He can do it. I don't think he's looking ahead to Khan. My bet is they're 100% concentrated on Meager,
The problem with that way of thinking is things never work out like you think they will. There have been loads of instances where to fighters should have fought, but didn't and then the opportunity went begging. They should fight now if they are going to at all. The moment will pass if they don't.

NOT EVEN WORTH TALKING ABOUT.

Can somebody please tell me the last time a Warren fighter boxed a Hennessy fighter?

If you can find one after Meager-Hunt I will ask another question...

When has a top level Warren fighter boxed a Hennessy fighter.

Calzaghe - Froch
Hatton - Witter
Khan - Thaxton/Murray

Anybody for Eastman-Alexander back in the day?.

I'm bored!

Khan has had fights with Limond, Earl, St Clair...Murray's not been given anything like that. I'd like to see a good learning curve before any big fights. Because of bad luck, inactivity, etc, Murray wasn't given any real development over the past half year. OK it looks like there have been serious gaps in Khan's ring education going by the Gomez fight, but neither fighter is what they can be.

I just think, let Murray become what he's going to be, and have him prepared for all eventualities.

Khan and Murray are both young lads. Rather would see them fight when they are both in their primes. Bigger money then, & a better fight.

In boxing ppl used to fight each othr all the time, before the higher levels. But now, everyone knows how much they are worth and hold out until there's a major title on the line. If you lose early in your career, ppl dump on you and you lose what you were as a commodity. No, I say let this fight get bigger. OK that may sound cynical, but there's plenty for both lads at 135.

Also, even if they become each other's mandatories, would they be able to work out a fight, given FW's penchant for pulling fighters out of purse bids? It has always looked like Hennessy has wanted to get a FW fighter on a Hennessy Sports show, but so far to no avail. The only way fights like these between different promoters happen is when the fight becomes too big not to happen, ala Haye v Enzo Macca. Let it START to simmer on July 11 I say.

Khan has left loads of gaps at lightweight...British title (Murray/Meager), European title (Thaxton-Romanov), Romanov. I'll bet Alex Arthur will lose his WBO 130 title after a defence or 2...That would be a good scalp IMO.

Move down to super feather when he would be weak at the weight, & when he has a British title fight at lightweight?

Autobarn.

Look up the word "Sarangi" - which is an Indian fiddle by the way - when you've found it tell me what the next word in the dictionary is.

I was using the Chambers Concise Dictionary for reference.

I have a feeling that if Gomez could put a Hamidi away
and Murray wins a controveral decision (not saying he won or lost but
some think he lost) over an ill prepared Hamidi then doesn't that make
Gomez a bigger threat to Khan than Murray?

You say Murray has
Withstood the punches so far BUT he hasnt fought anyone as dangerous as
Limmon/Gomez/Earl has he? Plus I think Hamidi rattled him a fair bit
and hamidi looked 2 divisions smaller.

I thought Murray looked
the biz early in his career against the easier comp but after stepping
up in class now I'd say hes made to measure for Khan

Would be nice if Khan-Murray happened now instead of them tooling around with easier fights
Gomez is gone in my opinion. He was gone before he cameback, during his comeback, and in his fight with Khan. Interestingly amongst all this the man who has been hit by both Murray and Khan (I would said has hit both but I hear he found Murray very hard to hit) is saying Khan should avoid Murray.

Hamidi was ill-prepared versus Murray? Hamidi is always in the gym and pretty much ready to fight. Unless you want to float the idea that Peter Buckley loses due to being ill-prepared?

It is also a nonsense comparison. Hamidi hit Gomez with the kitchen sink in round one, lost a little steam, and was taken out of the fight citing an ankle injury. On first showing he looked to have quit, on repeat showings maybe he did put himself out a little. Also, he came into the Murray fight off a win over a prospect in Crolla. Maybe his attitude for Murray was "I'll show this guy as well".

As for not facing anyone as dangerous. If he becomes British Champion he certainly will have to, it is not the Commonwealth title, unfortunately Khan seems intent on skipping the British title, perhaps feeling it is already beneath him, so unfortunately Murray will not face the 'dangerous' Khan, instead hoping for Thaxton (I think Khan would beat him, Khan is skipping the fight anyway) and then Romanov (see previous, although Khan would not beat him), both of whom are seemingly too much for Khan right now, despite his calling them out, and belittling Thaxton.

As for Earl, Limond and Gomez, they were not brought in as dangerous fights. Limond was a non-puncher, Earl was one of the few fighters who by that point had to be carried to the ring. I've gone into my thoughts on Gomez above, as much as I like the guy he was a non-puncher by this point, especially when taking his first real fighter at the weight.

A British title win for John makes the Thaxton and Romanov fights possible, an EBU one at the least if Yuri moves on. Say he wins those and goes British-European. I would say that is better than Amir's Commonwealth-Limbo, because that is where Khan is, no intention of going for the British or European, no chance of winning a world title in his timeframe. Unless someone gets really old on the title scene. Last year he won a Commonwealth title, this year nothing, where is the development? Greater opportunity should have brought him a step into British title waters, or at least European, but they won't take that step.

I like Khan, defended him oftne on here, I think he is massively ill-advised by someone, I also think that they are so intent on waiting for a title holder to grow old Thora Hird could very well be the ringcard girl when he gets his shot.

Facts are facts. Sure Murray has looked bad, sure he has been hit, yet you say he was hurt versus Hamidi, in fact he got hit and waited until his balance was right before firing back. Khan gets it he goes down. Gomez can barely hit these days but put Khan down as heavily as Bruce did that guy/dummy in 'Enter the Dragon' with a roundhouse kick.
My point about Murray is that he because hes showed weaknesses against journeymen these are only going to be shown up further at a higher level. He plods forward without headmovement and is predicatable. I'm not sure he'd beat the likes of Limmond/St Clair/Gomez because of this.

And come on, Hamidi was at work the morning of the fight, that is hardly well prepared. TBH I havent seen Gomez-Hamidi so thought Gomez put him away.

The problem Khan has is everyone who fights him put in their performance of their lives to try and hit the jackpot against him so Limmond/Gomez/ were at their best (yes gomez was past his prime but surely put in a hell of a training camp and effort in his last big shot) as it was their big shot. ALso fighting top level british fighters isnt easy for world level champs, look at what British level Cooper did to a young Ali and the problems the smaller Thaxton gave Hatton. I don't think Khan is elite but I expect him to win a belt in the next 2 years and may even beat a P4P fighter with improvements

Khan hitting the the canvas is deceptive for my money, his knock downs are as much about lack of balance and his chin being high up in the air unprotected as much as anything. He wasnt close to being stopped against Gomez or Limmond but these aren't top level so yes it opens questions. However won't Khan be better in the future? Will he take as many risks against more dangerous men?

I think that is a bit shortsighted mate.

Money is not the overriding factor these fights don't happen.

There is NO way Warren will give an opportunity to a Hennessy fighter, let alone allow one of his own stars box on a Hennessy show.

It is all down to EGO. And I suspect, unless it was a really fantastic offer, Hennessy wouldn't let one of his boxers appear on a Sports Network show again.

Warren could definitely find the money for Froch to box on one his shows if he wanted it to happen. Hennessy has already tabled a large public offer for Calzaghe. Neither wants to concede defeat.

The money just doesn't come into it.

Unnaceptable options are brought into it and other reasons given as to why an offer can't be accepted - Anybody remember:

...> 'why not fight on my show instead, my offer is higher if you work out what your fighter would get as a proportion of the purse bid' (or something on those lines)

......> 'this is the highest ever offer for a WBO challenge...'

.......> 'I will fight him for free my sponsor will pay'.. (that shows how much money means)

It is all BS.

I concede on the Hatton front that primarily this didn't happen because Hatton didn't want it, but even if he did, neither promoter, (when Ricky was with Warren), would have backed down.

These fights can NEVER happen without somebody losing face. That is why WE always lose out.

Which brings me back to my original point: I AM BORED OF TALKING ABOUT THEM.

I am bored of Hennessy fighter's chasing Warren's. It's never going to happen.

Give it up - has it ever worked to date? Ironically, by chasing Warren fighters, Hennessy is giving him more power. He can just keep saying no.

And to be fair, Hennessy would say no if he was Warren's position. He would probably say no in his position now if a fight wasn't going to be on his show...

My view is Khan out grow Murray in terms of development as well, so it won't happen down the line. Khan's natural ability and drawing power will get him to world level. Whether or not he succeeeds at that level is a different matter, but Murray simply won't make it that far. It's not gonna happen. Now is a good time for them to fight.

Re: Murray's Offer To Khan

Post by Autobarn »

Well, as I see it, Murray has a good little career ahead of him if he wins the British title.

Calling out Khan now has done no good because ppl mostly either don't see Murray as a threat or - on other websites - are being plain abusive.

I think Murray just needs to erase the doubts. If he looks great beating Meager, ppl may say Meager was bad/shot. After the Hamidi fight ppl were saying Murray would have lost to Fewkes. So make a title defence (maybe Lawton, who soundly beat Hamidi?) and then beat Fewkes.

Murray could buuld his career and his commodity bit by bit. Maybe by then Khan will be a light welter, but there's always Frankie Gavin who may turn pro at lightweight as a big name coming through.

I'm pretty sure he can get that far and then there is the European champ (Thaxton-Melero winner). Khan isn't the be all and end all, though I'm sure every fighter in Manchester wants a crack at him.

Also, what makes you think the fight can be made? Hennessy fighters won't fight on a Warren show and Warren fighters won't fight on a Hennessy show. No fight ever even makes it to purse bids (Thaxton-Khan, Calzaghe-Froch).

Khan isn't everything. He got hurt and dropped vs a shot Michael Gomez, after all.
