Metropol - He's very limited, has a good chin and performs well against awful opposition. He made Campas look like he was still a world beater.

It's pretty simple....

I have no axe to grind with the guy, it's just a fact. He comes across like a nice bloke, but he is so over-hyped and that annoys me, especially as Moore is much better than him and gets nowhere near the exposure.

but he's not overhyped or overrated - tell me one person that overhypes or overrates!!! Everyone I speak to knows and accepts his limitations - its hard not to as they are so obvious.

Its could be argued that he is more successful than he should be but that is not due to overhyping or overrating its due to his popularity.

Duddy might not be the most skillful boxer, he probably won't be a world champion but I'll tell you he's worth every penny just for his excitement in the ring.

I like Duddy when he decides to use his actual boxing skill. People are judging him too much off the Smichet fight - he made a mistake of trying to get him outta there and he failed. In the 5th or 6th round he then turned it on with the jab and Smichet probably didn't land a flush shot after that. Him moving down to 154lbs (providing he can make it easily and healthily) will help as well and he won't get pushed back as easy as Eastman and Smichet (in those opening rounds) did. I reckon he stops Phillips, but definitely beats him.

definitely, the Campas and Smichet fights were very exciting. Because of Duddy's popularity, a fight "makes sense" a lot. The Irish fans who saw Moore will see him as a threat to Duddy. If both win their big fights there's a real audience for the fight.

The only criteria for a title shot isnt fan base and support, its beating ranked guys to gain your shot. Something he hasnt done.

Almost all Irish fans wanted him retired after Larios II, so really you're just making things up .

Campas has been written off as a simple win for any up and coming contender at the moment but just 3 weeks ago he destroyed Alejandro Garcia in just 1 round . Garcia held the WBA title two years ago and was fighting a World eliminator just 8 months ago .

It's not like Duddy is the mandatory so all we're really arguing here is does Duddy deserve to be in the IBF's top 15 at Light-Middleweight and with wins over Campas, Cuevas, Bonsante, Eastman and Smichet I think he has done enough top be ranked top 15 by the IBF at Light-Middleweight .

No one here is saying Duddy is a World beater, no one gives him a chance at beating Pavlik or Abraham, merely that he could beat Phillips . Now if you think he's overhyped because people think he is capable of beating Verno Phillips then fair enough .

People didn't complain when Mora got his chance, and Mora had a draw with a pretty poor fighter(who also ended up getting a title shot), aswell as some lucky decisions .

Well anyone that wants Wayne to continue doesn't actually like the guy, if he retires now there's a chance he'll end up like La Motta . A go who took loads of hard shots but ended up being okay when his career was done . keep going and he could end up like Freddie Roach . Freddie has said himself that although he can't scientifically prove it, it was the last 5 fights of his career(he believes) which really did the damage . It was before these last 5 fights that Eddie Futch begged him to retire and when he wouldn't they split .
McCullough originally trained by Futch then went on to be trained by Roach as we all know . Roach begged him to retire after Larios II, and when he didn't they split . Wayne has had one fight since then...........one too many .

I really hope Wayne retires............I just don't want to see him hurt .



If you were to pick a guy most worthy of challenging Spinks, Duddy wouldn't be your man . Infact Spinks most likely would be after the last fight . But this is boxing and as such we have voluntary defences and with that comes 'easy' defences . Phillips would probably not be picking Duddy if he didn't generate so much cash, but should anyone hold a grudge against Duddy getting this fight because he's a big money generator . After all if he didn't get it someone else who is probably a gimme fight for Phillips would get it instead . Spinks will get his shot at the winner anyway so no harm done .

There's no grudge at all from my side. I've been following this sport for decades, like many on here, and know how it works. I'm in no way naive.

But Duddy is an accident waiting to happen, that chin wil come up against some real power one day - world class power, a la Pavlik.

Nice guy though, don't get me wrong. Who can blame them for milking it - good looking, Irish, makes it exciting for the fans...why not indeed, but he's one of the msot limited fighters (with the opportunity to win a world title) that I've seen in a while.

Can't argue with the McCullough points. What always concerned me was him having his wife and kid at ringside, and his wife being so involved. He should have retired after Larios, I wonder what her opinion is?

I suppose having a great chin can be a negative if you're taking a beating over the 12. Jeff Lacy took a huge ammount of punishment against calzaghe, the old bonce shouldnt go through that really.

Anyway, let's see if Duddy can make 154, let's see if he even secures a fight with Philips and then let's see if he can get the win. Three fairly big ifs. AND Moore has to get past the toughest opponent of his career, in Baysangyurov. And Baysangruov has to get through his fight without injury, this weekend. Lot of things that can go wrong.

Before Lockett's loss to Pavlik I would have gone for him, probably by decision.

But I think that will have taken a lot out of him. That was a career-ending beating.

IMO Gary is a better boxer, also has a great chin and good power, but a relentless assault from even a limited Duddy, backed by thousands of fans, might take him to a late TKO.

The names may not be as big, but Campas is way past it (despite recent KO) and Eastman has been on the slide for 4-5 years.

Other than those two there's not too much between them, which shows you how poorly Gary has been promoted.

He came out of his last fight almost totally unscaved and there was alot of positives from that fight!

I suspect that you arnt talking about his last fight but the Walid Schmedit fight - fair enough the boy took too many unessecary shots in the first half of the fight but at least he had the brains to change his game plan and sort it out.

Since then he has changed his trainer and had (by all accounts) a very good win.
