BTW: John. As I mentioned earlier, my source was THE WORLD newspaper. If this Billy guy is from Lackawanna, it probably is the same guy.

On Friday February 8, 1929, Billy Kowalik won on a 5th round foul over Charlie
(Phil) Rosenberg, former Bantamweight Champ (1925-27).

As I mentioned almost a year ago in another, completely unrelated thread, from my experience researching New York City newspapers over three years ago for my own web site, The World newspaper (circa 1886-1931) is notorious for misspelling boxers' names. Its reporters/editors are horrendous in this regard. But that paper did offer some factoids and other boxing info that The New York Times did not.
During Babe Ruth's heyday (particularly 1927), he "wrote" a daily column for that paper during the baseball season. I encourage any fan of old-time boxing to check out microfilm of this defunct newspaper. It may be very difficult to find. Try your local university library. I did.
