Given that Moore in his prime went 0-3 against Charles, I don't see how.

Jones's looping punches would fall right into Ezzard Charles's gameplan. Charles could box like crazy, and he had serious power. Ezzard Charles moving up to heavyweight against John Ruiz would be a just another minor card. He obliterated shitty heavyweights like Ruiz, and he beat some of the greatest heavyweights of all time while basically being an overfed super middleweight/light heavyweight.

not sure what "looping" punches your talking about. if i recall correctly, jones obliterated ruiz also. i agree that this fight would be the toughest for jones out of all of the fighters were listed.

Every time Moore faced Charles it was a pick 'em fight. Ezzard had remarkable luck in this series IMHO....so in this theoretical his luck FINALLY runs out and Moore is the one left standing. But without a doubt it's one of those two.

Ezzard Charles sent Moore to the canvas every time they met, and he knocked him out for good with a right cross in their third bout. Moore later said that he simply couldn't beat Charles.

1) Charles
2) Moore
3) Spinks
4) Foster
5) Jones

3 and 4 could be the other way round...

Tunney, Loughran, Gibbons, Langford could all be in this too...

Jones would be left standing. However if Tunney were also in this he would be in the finals.

I don't see how. He was the least durable of them all, and every one of these fighters was better and hit harder than anyone he's ever faced in his career.

Charles would win, and Charles is the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time, in my mind anyway.

james toney belongs in the same class as the fighters listed. not from an accomplishment stand point but from a fighting one.

Not really, for several reasons.

First of all, we're talking about light-heavyweight, and Toney was never great there by any standards.

And even at his best weight class (either 160 or 168, take your pick) he is not rated in the same regard as these other fighters are in their best weight class (175).

And Toney was never a puncher on the level of any of these fighters, in any weight class he fought in.

Toney is around #40 on my list of the best light heavyweights of all time, mostly for what he did at 168 (I don't rank junior divisions).
