Romeo Romaeo - Boy Boxer

Post by HairyBoxe24 »

Not sure how well known this is here, but Romeo is a 12 year old amaetur boxer from Wales, he's very talented, but seems to be being pushed way to hard by his father, he trains everyday, and heavily on weights, he fights at 37kg and is benching over 60kg, aswell as massive squats and deadlifts.

He has a channel on Youtube which he has about 100 videos of his fights, sparring, training, and details on his daily workouts, heres the channel.. http://www.youtube.com/user/RomeoBoxer

Have a look through and give me your thoughts.. I think he's being pushed too much and will be burnt out by the time when he should be in his prime.

Sorry if this has been done in the recent past, as it does seem like a fairly big story but can't find anything in the search function.

I've posted about him before. He seems to like having his fingers in lots of pies, as in he's trying to do many different things.

well yes doing 60kg 4x4 at 12 when you weight 37kg is quite good. aswell as squatting 80kg 6x4, sorry if it's not up to your standards, though.

That's just a tiny bit of what he does anyway, he beats press up world records, is wales amaetur champion, and much, much more if you care to take the time to look at the videos instead of trying to be a smart ass, which you fail greatly at.

The point of the thread is to discuss how hard his father is pushing him, and if it is the best way for him to be training that way, since the age of 7 or 8, not to have pointless jibes at a little detail in my first post... but hey, carry on if it makes you feel good.

Fella, I might be wrong here but I don't think he was being sarcastic - my reaction was that 60kgs is bl**dy impressive for that age and I think Wales' was the same.
As for the boy in question - far too much at a young age in my opinion... even if he succeeds you have to wonder at what cost.

Surely training that hard at such a young age will have effects on his growth as well? I keep telling myself thats the reason I'm such a stump :(

Thats if he hasn't turnt his back on his father completely by the time he is 20 Teddy!

Parents trying to live their dreams through their children is quite disturbing.

Kinell, did you get out of bed on the worng side or something. Who would actually think that 60kg bench at 12 years old isnt up to their standards or isnt impressive!? 60kg at 12 years old is a lot!

Sorry if I offended your "isnt his dad a pudendum thread". We'll see how much of a twat he is when Romeo is sat in his ivory tower, bathing in £50 notes and rattling the cast of make me a model. We'll still be sat at home trolling about on internet message boards.

With Beckham, I don't think his dad pushed him especially, David himself had the appetite and his father was there every step of the way helping him and supporting him.
If anything Enzo Calzaghe pushed his son far harder, when Joe was losing interest

I suspose theres a fine line between pushing and encouraging. Beckhams Dad took him to the park everyday and paid him 50p for everytime he could hit the crossbar, not quite making him weight train etc...

Don't believe the hype. Mayweather was just a normal kid. Apparently he was never seen as a phenom going into any Golden Gloves tournament from what I hear.

But clearly his father / family had a huge impact on his life and was a massive catalyst in pushing him towards boxing. Wasnt there footage of him sparring other family members ata BBQ at 4 or 5 yrs ?

On the flip side, Tiger loved his Dad (who was harsher than any Father with the exception of Mr Williams).

TBH I wished my Dad had pushed me to the limits to achieve something big by now instead of having to slog my guts out in my 20s for a far lower standard of living. You can say hes being pushed too hard but he may go onto be something big and have a far more enriched life, be financially successful, be in great shape and may well be having fun at the moment too. However being pushed so hard at an early age may make him go off the rails later and not become anything too special

Having said that if I was training a youngster I wouldn't push them to do high intensity weight training, I'd get them better results without destroying their young joints.
