Gomez does Haye's trick before Haye can....

Post by jameswilson »

“The Black Panther” returned to Hamburg yesterday and is already kicking up a fuss again. At todays so called “public” workout for Wladimir Klitschko’s title defence against Tony Thompson on Saturday Juan Carlos Gomez has been kicked out by Klitschko’s security..

“It was more or less a coincidence that I was in down-town Hamburg at that time” states Gomez. “I just wanted to stop by to say hello. Mr. Klitschko shouldn’t think that his little aerobic is interesting enough to catch my attention. I don’t know why they call this ‘public’ on the one hand and then select who should belong to that public and who not. To me this is just a proof that they are more afraid of me than they are of Tony Thompson…”

Before Wladimir started his workout Gomez was stealing the undercard fighters’ show. Surrounded by fans, TV crews and journalists Gomez gave interviews and autographs.

“It’s good to see that people still remember me. Obviously the Klitschkos als exactly know who I am. I can only tell you one thing, guys: When we fight for the world championship there will be no security to protect you or keep me away. I will go for Vitali first and then take on Wlad. Wladimir certainly still remembers how I beat you up in Denmark at the amateurs – I’m coming for you again, bro!”

In all seriousness I think Gomez is Heavyweight boxings best kept secret, he isnt a KO artist at all but Id back him to beat everyone except Wlad and there I think it would be very competitive.

With Gomez on the verge of a title shot, Povetkin at the top level now and Haye I think the heavyweights may be starting to pick up a little bit.

Yes and no, I think there are competitive matches but I think thats because there are a lot of people who are at a similar level but not that grate, I don't belive any of them would have done that well against Lewis or Tyson 6 years ago!

You have to question when Gomez will get his shot though, he just beat McCall in a WBC title eliminator but if Peter takes on Williams as the rumour is going around then doesnt he have to fight Vitali, that could be another 18 months before Gomez gets a crack at the WBC, maybe he might wanna try another route if he wants to become champion.

I think Peter is facing Vitali in October in Berlin, I presume he then has the option of a voluntary defence which is what the Williams fight is being rumoured as (presumably around Feb next yr.)

Gomez actually has a final eliminator against Wladimir Virchis and the winner will then be mandatory challenger. Quite when the WBC will enforce that mandatory tho we will see, by the law a champion has a mandatory that he has to face about every 6 months (I believe) but as we know things dont always work out this way.

How marketable is a fighter with a low KO rate and a drugs scandle hanging over him?

Having said that him vs Haye would make an interesting fight.

Gomez will be 35 by the time he finally faces Gomez and his chin has let him down v the ordinary Yaqui Lopez.

Long layoffs, drugs, bad attitude... I used to be a big fan of JC but he is squandering his last years.
