Has the Internet resulted in you buying less Boxing mags?

I was just wondering has having axcess to the Internet resulted in you buying less Boxing publications?

I still need my weekly fix of Boxing News every week, and am like a bear with a bad head if it doesn't arrive on a Friday.

However since having regular axcess to the Internet I have found myself buying less editions of Boxing Monlthly and I cant recall the last time I purchased one of the Americain Boxing Magazines.


Anyone else changed their Boxing reading habits since getting on-line?

I still get Boxing news and Boxing Monthly. Used to get Boxing Digest but it's hard to find.

Haven't brought the Ring for a while.

ive bought boxing news for years and have continued to do so all the time ive been online and intend to continue buying it.

However i have found that my purchases of certain other mags have dropped!!

I subscribe to both BN and BM. Haven't bought the American mags for years. They are poor value and lack currency. What always used to amuse me is when an issue date of 'August 2004' appears on the cover, you know the most recent result will be from March or such like.

I suspect that the internet will not damage the two Brit trade papers, though I have no idea of any figures. In fact, I would say the reverse. I bet a lot of lads who go on these forums make sure they get the mags so they can discuss the material. And you can't access the internet on the bog or in a doctor's waiting room. OK, you probably can, but you get the point.

This will probably sound like hogwash but I think it's up to us as boxing fans to ensure we buy the mags if we can. They are a valuable resource and we need to keep full-time lads going to represent the view of the fan, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't buy them if they were poor though, just for the sake of it. The product has to be good and I believe our two trade mags are.

I used to buy boxing news, boxing monthly, and Ring, whatever I could get my hands on really.

The old dear at the local shop used to order them in for me, but when I moved house that was the end of that.

I wouldn't mind having boxing news again but they need to get it into more shops. It's a bugger to find around here, even in places like Smiths. Do they have a website?

Oh and personally I don't think you can beat having a hard copy such as a magazine.

You're right about the distribution TT. I've lived all over the place and I've ALWAYS had to go out of my way to place an order with a newsagent. Smith's used to stock a few but not sure if they carry it anymore. I think BN is really good value.

You pick it up and think it's a bit lightweight but that's because it isn't full of shit adverts and leaflets. Magazines are costing about £4 these days and a lot of the stuff is fillers.

If you can afford it, a subscription is a good idea. But if it doesn't come in the post on Friday you get really annoyed!

Absolutely. I have bought perhaps 2 or 3 copies of Boxing News in 3 years and about the same of Boxing Monthly.

I did move a few years ago and my newsagent used to put them aside for me and I would just pick them up every week/month and I never got around to it in my new area, however were it not for the Internet then I most definitely would have 'gotten round to it'.

Before the internet I bought all of them, KO, Ring ( back when it was good, in the 80's ), Illustrated etc.
You had to check the Telegraph small print for a fight result, or the Herold Tribune - or wait till Friday for BN to tell you.
How times have changed!
Now I just get BM and BN, the American mags are still 4 months behind, even in the age of the internet.

I still lover reading BN, even though the first 2 inside pages seem to be taken directly from the internet. You can't beat reading it having your saturday morning poo after a night on the tiles!

Anyway, anyone buying less grot mags due to the internet?

Very true, if you can afford the lump sum once a year subscription is worth it, I'd say it arrives on a Friday 70% of the time and on Saturday 29% of the time.

I've been on line almost two years now and now that I can get a daily fix of Boxing results and news on line, I don't seem to get so excited when my BN drops through the letter box, althougth I stll need my weekly BN fix, weekends wouln't be the same without it, the staff at BN do a great job.

In the 1980's I used to buy The Ring when it was still good and spend hours ploughing through all the results pages and articals etc. But in the early 90's The Ring went downhill very fast so I started buying Boxing Illustrated instead but after a few years that went the same way.

Since being on-line I seem to buy Boxing Monthly less that I used to.

My answer is yes, I used to buy boxing news but I really don't see that much of a use for it anymore. Sites like Fightnews, Seconds out and Britishboxing.net get me all I need to know. So I only buy it occasionally (i.e. something to read on a long journey).

I still subscribe to boxing monthly, the fact its a monthly and they can focus more stories in depth (especially the world scene stuff). I do like reading it when it comes to the superfights and they get the views of trainer, fighters, ex-fighters and journo's on a additional page from their own preview - that is the one avenue that free sites like BBN and Fightnews do not do.

However, they are both excellent publications and I only hope the internet doesn't kill them off.

I buy boxing monthly,Ring,boxing (ko series) and have just started getting BN again.

regardless of the net you still cant get the quality of articles that are commonly available through some of these mags.

I do tend to buy less magazines as I find the internet more conveniant and 'Up to the Minute' news avaliable at your finger tips, buying Boxing magazines just seems a little pointless to me now...

This is exactly the same as me. I'll never stop buying Boxing News but I seriously considering giving BM the shove. It just seems so far behind these days. I haven't bought the last one and I'm not sure I will. Glyn Leach's column is about all that interests me.
