Recently found this website - I'm a new fan of amateur boxing - love the information and opinions - good job everyone!!
Wanted to follow up on the great post last month on Olympic early predictions. Further to who will win, who is the most agressive/passive fighter, who will suprise, etc...I'm interested in the best 'human' stories to come from boxing in Beijing. The likes of 18-year old gypsy Billy Joe Saunders, or Harry Tanamor holding the entire hopes of a nation on his shoulders as the only Filipino representative, or Deontay Wilder from USA who only took up the sport in '05 after quitting work to support his severly disabled child.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on other 'human interest' stories, whether or not they are medal favourites. Makes the games much more enjoyable to follow when you have the human angle in the background.
Thanks,
Tim
Olympic stories
Re: Olympic stories
Tim - where do you expect these stories to come from? I know that NBC has been following the U.S. boxers; maybe the BBC has been following those from the U.K. and, once the boxing has started, NBC will be making predicitions, etc. Did you want posters here to put links to human interest stories as reported by the various media covering the Olympics?

Re: Olympic stories
If Luis Yanez is reinserted in the US Team and goes on to win the gold medal - THAT would be a great story! ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Re: Olympic stories
I think an even greater story would be if Yanez got kicked off and they replaced him with a hard working club fighter from Philly named Rocky. Rocky then would go on to shock the world and Win the Gold medal beating the devasting Russian fighter in the final and then appear on a wheaties box. Now that would be the type of things movies are made of
Re: Olympic stories
In this case, it would be beating the devastating Chinese fighter.
