Tips for making weight?
Any ideas lads?
It's actually not for a fight, but I need to get about a stone off in 25 days (I'm about 17 stone, 6ft 3, should only be 15 really).
What's the best way to shift it? Without going into the intrinsic details of diet, because I can't eat five times a day with my job.
Basically, what sort of exercises should I do (I've been told long runs are best?) and what should I eat to fill me but put on few calories? Someone told me celery is great, that may be totally ridiculous.
Thanks...

Re: Tips for making weight?
As much grilled chicken, fish, vegtables as you like. Plenty of cardio work. At your weight bike rides may be better with less impact on your knees. best person on here to advise would be Phenomenal Nutrition. Knows his stuff.
Re: Tips for making weight?
Celery has either the same, or less, calories than it takes to eat it. I forget which. Shame it tastes shit. I'm a big fan of swimming and skipping for the best low impact CV exercises. Especially for my knees.
As Wales said, protein, veg, fruit and I try to stay away from complex carbs if it's after 6.
I want to recommend plenty of water, but I'm not sure if you need to lose weight. See what PN says. He has some good suppliments. The water will help to stop you feeling hungry, but it doesn't way nowt.

Eat less is the best way and don't eat nothing after 6, feel free to hav a big breakfast in the morning cause u will burn it off in the day, make sure you go to bed on an empty stomach.
Black bags are good to sweat ur fluids out and don't guzzle fluids afterwards, instead rehydrate on fruit, they are low in calories and a diarretic. Cut all salt out as that will only make you retain fluid

Look at food labels too, for example, tuna is a good food to eat but if u get tha can with vegetable oil it pretty much ruins it, get it with brine or spring water.
I ate so much tuna in my time I bloody hate it now!

If you need to drain for a specific occasion you can always dehydrate yourself, but I think it's important to stay well hydrated. In fact, your body needs water in order to burn fat. Sweat too much water out and your body will first have to make adjustments for its dehydration by retaining water and fat.

You can always weigh yourself with your belly resting on the radiator.pm wrote:chop your legs off

Isnt the fat in it poly on saturated though, not saturated... so in essence its good fat? Im way off the pace when it goes beyond looking at calorie and fat content.
A mate of mine was diagnosed with high cholesterol, something that can be genetic. His nutritionist told him not to eat anything that has more than 5g per 100g (so 5%) fat in. Thats a good rule of thumb.

Yes, there are good fats and bad fats.Wales wrote:Coco wrote:Look at food labels too, for example, tuna is a good food to eat but if u get tha can with vegetable oil it pretty much ruins it, get it with brine or spring water.

Re: Tips for making weight?
Depends on your current diet and how much you are willing to give up.
Cut right down on sugar - sweeties, chocolate bars, sugary drinks, sugar in tea or coffee etc.
No snacking or junk food, especially late at night.
Less red meat, more chicken and fish, avoid excessive oil when cooking.
More green veg and reduce high carbs but this also depends on how much energy you burn up during the day. You don't want to be starved and exhausted halfway through your day.
Long walks at a good pace can actually burn more calories than running and not so much pressure on the old knees. Swimming and cycling also great for burning the cals.
A lot of it is fairly simple stuff, just sensible eating and get that heart pumping. Also gradual weight loss is better than losing a stone in a week as it usually comes right back.

Re: Tips for making weight?
Go for a run early morning before breakfast. All the energy you use will come from fat as you won't have any carbs energy remaining.

Easy - leave a tin of opened Tuna in the sun/rain for 3 days....then eat it. The ensuing dysentry and diarrhohea will make you lose a stone in a week. Repeat every week to lose 4 stone!
Re: Tips for making weight?
Not trying to be funny, but isn't a colonic supposed to get rid of a few pounds?
Depends if you like have tubes stuck up your hoop, I suppose.

Re: Tips for making weight?
Cheers Coco, find it hard to sleep on an empty stomach, but I'll have to give it a go, that gives me about 14 hours without food though.
Re: Tips for making weight?
14 hours without food is to much, 6 hours is fine esp if you are active in that time.King Tubby wrote:Cheers Coco, find it hard to sleep on an empty stomach, but I'll have to give it a go, that gives me about 14 hours without food though.
It is hard and you will dream about food, but you will get used to it, it's habit and routine. The bonus is you can eat what you want in the morning as you have a whole day to burn it off. A lot of eating is comfort eating and you don't really need it.
One thing I did before bed if I was desperate was to eat a lemon(or half a grapefruit), you pass it when you get up and apparently the acid in eat eats at existing fat rather than breaking down the non existent food in your stomach

Bollocks, frankly
Thats one of the oldest myths in the book, come on now
Eating lemons to burn fat? oh please.......
Also why are you giving him advice on how to dehydrate? He isn't trying to make weight for a fight, you need water to burn fat so should be drinking about 8 liters a day...
hmmmmmm
Also going to sleep on an empty stomach isnt a great idea, you need about 400 calories to sleep (sleeping actually requires energy) so trying to sleep with nothing in the tank is difficult to say the least
Re: Tips for making weight?
Worked for me mate, and a lot of it is habit forming, i've barely put on any weight since.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Coco wrote:King Tubby wrote: One thing I did before bed if I was desperate was to eat a lemon(or half a grapefruit), you pass it when you get up and apparently the acid in eat eats at existing fat rather than breaking down the non existent food in your stomach

Often overweight people hold a lot of excess water, and it is a good thing to reduce it so that their body only holds what it needs.
If you go to bed with food in you it lies there, and doesn't get burnt off

Kerry Kayes helps to get a quite ridiculous amount of weight off Ricky Hatton, and there is some good advice here

Re: Tips for making weight?
Well lads, so far, so good.
Started last Saturday so today is day seven. I was actually 17 stone 7 when I weighed myself last Saturday (couldn't believe it!).
Since then I am eating bran flakes for breakfast, five slices of yeast free bread per day and potatoes, veg and fish/chicken for dinner. No sweets, fizzy drinks, red meat (though I broke it and had spaggeti bolognese one day), chips etc. fornicating tough to cut out the junk food for the first three or four days but I'm fine now.
I'm a squash player mainly, so I've been in the court a couple of times, and I have been out running nearly every day.
Which brings me to a problem. Jesus, the jogging is a killer. I'm doing ten to fifteen minutes and it's absolutely killing me, my legs are arms get really tired, I'd say due to the weight I'm carrying. I tried the black bag one day but I founf it weird, I was barely sweating round my head yet my chest and back was soaking. Didn't like it so I'm back to running with a few t shirts on.
Back in the gym to weigh in tomorrow, I reckon I'm down four or five pounds...

Keep weighing urself a few times a day to know where your at.
It will give you the impetus to keep reducing ur food and upping ur training
