[quote="DavidPayne"]Who is is trainer this week anyway? Do you think he asks his wife before he leaves the house to make sure he's going to the right place.[quote]

Well it sure ain't Wayne. When I asked him he had no knowledge of it. Hope he's not on his way to Cyprus ir he's in for a shock.

Nice weather, though. Perhaps he can pop in and see David.

Isn't he 30 years of age now - another youthful "prospect" then.

I'd pay to watch Scott Harrison fight him at Super-Feather but precious few others.

I wonder, has Ken Buchanan been "vindicated" a bit. Arthur and Warren sniped at him for saying Arthur chopped and changed his trainers too much, that Alex was at the wrong weight (rumour that he was going to pull out vs Guzman anyway, unable to get the weight down). I think Ken - a great boxer in his day - had every right, and every reason, to say what he said.

Hey Ant!!!!!!

I find it a bit surprising and a little silly how someone who writes for a reputable publication can come on here and spew such venom!!

You may have opinions there fella but do you not think its best you put them accross in a more professional way

What odds Nicky Cook beating Arthur down the stretch? I really don't think Alex can make 130....

Good point. With Arthur boiling down, and Cook moving up...one will be depleted, one will get stronger.

Last time it was the same, Arthur getting down to 130 & Foster Jr moving up and enjoying the extra 4 pounds. Foster almost won that fight.

Cook definitely not as compact as Foster, but maybe stronger at the weight - we'll see.

My question is, will the loser fight Khan? or will the winner?

How did Nicky look at the new weight in his brief appearance earlier this year? I missed it.

I must admit I have been frustrated by Enzo's reaction to the fight. No fighter can afford to slip into diffidence and expect to continue fighting, and self-denial and over confidence are unfortunately vital for boxing success. In that context, I would understand if he was simply saying "He was the better man on the night, but I feel that I still have it in me to beat him."

But that's not the case. By perpetuating the myth that Enzo was caught with a scud to the chin and finished, Enzo, Warren et al are fudging the truth of the fight, and the media appear unwilling to take them to task for this.

Enzo did not get caught cold, or with a Shavers-esq wrecking-ball to the chin. He was not simply over eager and reckless. Enzo was eating heavy shots almost from the start; Haye could hardly miss with the right cross, and was completely unfazed by anything Maccarinelli offered in return. It wasn't just a couple of lucky shots: Haye dominated the fight. By the second he felt confident enough to load up on his shots rather than patiently breaking down the Welshman, and the results, while almost instantaneous, weren't a one off.

This indicates not only a bad night, or a forsaken game plan, but fundamental flaws and an unbridgeable gulf in class. While Enzo's "I still feel I could beat him" yada-yada is frustratingly self-delusional, what really chafes my nipples is the lie hidden in that statement.

Maccarinelli has been brought on beautifully, and has certainly made the most of his talents. He improved noticeably in the period from his early career through to the Haye fight. However, Haye exposed Maccarinelli as limited at world class. His record has hardly a credible name on it – despite the lies of the Haye fight build up – and while the paucity of big men wanting to box may aid his ascent to another alphabet title, I have serious reservations about his ability to unify, for that, in any division, requires real class.

OK, the metaphors might not be to everyones taste, but I fully agree with Ant Evans and the complete lack of class from Maccarinelli. He was whupped off the face of the planet and could barely stand up straight after Haye had dealt with him. Forgot the other Enzo (C) he's neither here, nor there.

What do I expect Maccarinelli to say ? I expect him to be a man and admit what happened.

Mistakes my arse, he got absolutely annihilated.

I think mrbassie had better start getting his piggy bank out and find a way to get his home remortaged.

In this thread he has accused Buncie of being a coke user.

M'learned friends will be kept busy me thinks.

David... we still don't know if Warren was "duped" - the fight only went two rounds. There was no stamina test there.

Enzo Calzaghe's tactics that he gave Mac for the Haye fight were all wrong, telling Macca to back Haye up behind double, triple jabs and bang him with double left hooks on the inside was suicide whether Haye was weight drained or not.
The Enzo Calzaghe tactical masterplan of - attack, attack, attack, throw punches, throw punches, and then throw even more punches - doesn’t work for every fighter in every fight.

Enzo Calzaghe, dont you reckon he's more suited to be running a stall at a carnival than whatever it is he does now?

No doubt Enzo can be just as annoying to listen to as his namesake, but he's only doing what 99% of top level boxers would do - write the loss off as just a bad night.

Can't blame him there - he took exactly the same line when he was flattened by Swaby years back, and it turned out well for him there.
He'll reason that if he'd landed first against Haye, then there's a good chance Haye would have been the one going over.

What about Lennox Lewis - did he ever give credit to McCall and Rahman when they beat him? Like hell did he.

Ant Evans wrote:What a lovely turn of phrase you have :TU: Have you considered a role at Ring Magazine?

I think Big Mac is a poster boy for everything wrong with British boxing, to be honest. He's an average fighter who is pushed as something special, he fights the type of guys Glyn Leach knocks out outside London kebab shops late of a Friday night, he calls himself "best in the world" all the while knocking over the likes of Bobby Gunn, he is a phoney, and even when he gets spanked he and Warren have the bold-faced cheek to expect/demand a direct WBO title chance and continue to bad mouth Haye like the brutal arse-kicking at the o2 never happened!

Yeah, I think Enzo needs to man up, admit he lost to the better man (period!) and re-dedicate himself to learning his craft, work his way back into contention and EARN a title chance.
Have to agree with you, no shame in losing a fight, even being blasted out like Macc was, but there is shame if you then go on and claim to be the 'better man' still... lets see Macc chase Haye for a rematch if he's so happy of his superiority...

No, he should work at a call centre. He could get paid £5 for every customer that can understand him.

I think that Enzo is slightly in denial thinking it was a mistake he made rather than something that David Haye did.

It amazes me how so much hype can blur reality. People were calling Enzo "A massive destructive puncher". Quite what this was based on I am unsure? Knocking out a 50 year old dominguez? Dropping an inactive Wayne Braithwaite? Also Enzo won a vacant title, and a WBO one at that.

It really gets me, David Haye had beaten a steady course of European class fighters, both young and active and then beat THE man in his back yard. Haye is number one then mysteriously Enzo is number two? What about Cunningham who had travelled and beat two tough Undefeated Europeans?

Only the hype made us believe Enzo had a chance that coupled with David seemingly eing weak at the weight. We will see how Enzo's career goes on after his next fight. Personally if he is 'the better fighter' why not have a comeback fight then go for the WBC which ex haye victim, Fragommeni should proabably own by then. Rather than go down the WBO route, althout Alexeev is a good fight.

If you want to see class in defeat see David Haye with his arm over Carl Thompson. No excuses, and no real look of concern. He accepted it and moved on, perhaps Enzo (x2) should too.

You could have plucked a soggy wet Scarecrow from a turnip field, put some black shorts on him, comb his Cockatoo hair into a bouffant and give him a Tom Petty entrance tune and we'd have seen no worse a performance than the one Big Mac provided us with that night.

The Big Mac entered the Arena like a man on death row, walking towards 'ol sparky the chair.

The Hayemaker dealt with him clinically. Like a bullet between the eyes, the big oath was felled.

Despite his cordial and family-man persona, the stark reality is that Big Mac is not good enough to compete with the Alexeev's and Cunnigham's of the world and I very much doubt we'll see him fight them either.

Despite taking more hammer than a circus tent peg during those 2 short rounds, i don't honestly believe any extra experience has been learned and that he will have several fights with TBA on Khan undercards for at least another year before stepping up to WBU level.

most clued up boxing fans would accept steve cunningham was the next best and not enzo.

but enzo was the bigger name and no one but the die hards had heard of cunningham.

the way boxing works i'm afraid.

Cunnigham looks the part, but really his resume is only on a par with Enzo Mac.

Sure, he should never have had a loss to that no vowel Pole, but he should have had a loss to Jones on his record.

Marco Huck was very much unproven.

He hasn't legitmately beaten anyone who I stands out head and shoulders above Braithwaite.

I rate him and thinks he beats Enzo, but he's far from an outstanding proven champion - he's only made one defence of a vacated title.

Overall I would say he was #2, but I'd have no complaints if someone considered Enzo #2.
