No one is saying you havent a point about Duddy - yes, he is more successful (in terms of money and ticket sales) then he probably should be but he isnt hyped or crap.
This is directly from Clan Duddy.......I'm always very amused at the concept that all a promoter has to do is put an Irish fighter, who may happen to be good looking and have average talent, out there and POW! they have themselves an immediate money maker who will sell thousands of tickets. They obviously believe that Irish fans are totally stupid and can be easily manipulated. Did that same theory hold for Maklin, James Moore, Andy Lee and Malachy Farrell? -- All of whom have fought in NYC -- none of whom have remotely approached the numbers that John Duddy has. Can you name me which one of these fighters made over $300k last year?
Now, why is this so? There are a number of reasons. The primary reason, given his natural outstanding personal charisma, is the fact that Duddy can make a fight with your grandma exciting. If Granny knows she's fighting Duddy, she trains extra hard under the probable misconception that she will gain his fame and fan base.
Secondly, Clan Duddy has worked our collective asses off doing all the little and big things that we believe will make John Duddy into a high profile, highly profitable entity in our sport. I think we've semi-succeeded in that.
Now, let me let you in on one of the things that I've seemed to have accomplished. It's based on the Dennis Rappaport Theory of Agitation. Rappaport, along with Mike Jones, was the manager of Gerry Cooney and played the theory out to perfection. Basically it means, shaking everyone up to the point that they have to talk about you. Once they're talking about you, they're compelled to come see you. I believe that the people that I call the "Boo Birds" are such intellectual fools, that they are easily manipulated to be a useful tool within the spirit of the Rappaport Theory. Write positive things and they blindly attack. This, of course, is exactly what is counted on. If you care to notice, every Duddy thread is usually one of the longer on the forum. This equates to a sh*tpot full of cash -- so thank you all.
Jabby - yes, Duddy is an attraction. Yes, he's exciting. But he's hardly God's gift. If he was all he's cracked up to be, he'd be where Kelly Pavlik is right now.
If Team Duddy can guide their man to the IBF light middleweight title, full credit. The complaint most ppl have is that Duddy doesn't block or slip punches. If he gets that far, he won't keep a title for long taking all those shots.

No-one from Duddy's team is claiming that Duddy is God's gift or Kelly Pavlik.
John Duddy seems very humble and modest to me. I'm sure he'd be the first person to tell you that he's not the best Middleweight in the World.

I believe that we've already clocked in on this but to reiterate, Jaime Moore is a fine professional athlete. Should he move himself into a financially rewarding situation, we'd be happy to fight him or anyone else in the LMW weight class. This is not the schoolyard where fights are made because one kid calls out another. It's professional boxing where athletes put their lives on the line and hope to be compensated as well as they possibly can. John Duddy is willing to put his life on the line. But it will have to be for the most money that can possibly be generated. If Jaimie Moore can show Clan Duddy that he is the most lucrative option, the very next day there will be a press release.
PS Jamie Moore may not be the "most lucrative option" but he is a damn site more deserving of a title shot than John Duddy. He just doesn't draw the same crowds, and I guess that's the name of the game now sadly......in most cases.
