This is such a sad situation both ways the olympic team might lose a boxer ,and the moral must be crappy . They could have handle this another way. but the damage is done, and we have to hope that this will not effect the other boxers come china .

I added a thread with the link, Dennis.
Thanks, I saw it. I think that will help.

quick question...

If Yanez is kicked off and wont be competing in Beijing will the Tripartite Commission select somebody to take his spot, such as the case with the Ukranian and Tanzanian??

The TPC has not announced a replacement for the Tanzanian, to my knowledge, but I was under the impression that they would always refill any slots. Maybe since Shiba has already been added at 48kg, they would leave it at 28, but perhaps the continental group is guaranteed their places and Oscar Negrete would perhaps get in.

I'm still hoping they can work this out - have Luis say something contrite and bring him back on the team.

The question is, from the sounds of things, does Luis know how to say something contrite?

I pray to god that Mr yanez wins the arbitration, and Dan Campbell loses his dam job for being such a lousy coach. The atheltes arer still bad mouthing dan cambell so there has to be some truth to what Yanez is saying. Yanez sue them take eveything they have.
Try and get your self to china remember it is your spot no one else, remember you won that spot no one gave it to you ..oh yea Yanez thanks Dam Campbell for all the publisty you have been getting.... hell the olympic team hasn't got this much publisty, the whole world now knows who yanez is ... You will win arbitration watch ,fight till the end ... don't give up !!!!!

It's a shame that it has gotten this far.Instead of getting ready to go to China, usab is dealing with a mess. I wonder what other infractions have occured with other boxers? Are they treating everybody the same, or is it a case by case dec. Let's hear about what else is going on with the other boxers, good or bad.

Why is everyone blaming Dan Campbell? What about Luis Yanez taking responsibility for his own actions. USAB Judicial Committee UNAMIMOUSLY rejected Luis Yanez's appeal. I wonder why? Yanez blew it for himself.

Gee - how nice to hear it from who-ever-you are on this forum and not officially from USAB. Lack of communication has been a real problem for the last two years.

That's a sudden change in tone. You know, when all the athletes made the Olympic team; they signed a code of conduct. It's amateur boxing, not the pros, and you're representing your country on the greatest sporting stage in the world. And I would say Team USA Boxing has gotten a fair bit of publicity, they were all shown at the Mets game when they were in NYC on their press tour and Saddam Ali was interviewed in the broadcast booth by the commentators because he grew up in Queens (my mom, who lives in NJ, told me this); as well as being on the Today show. Where are you hearing all these athletes badmouthing Dan Campbell? You see, this is part of the reason whenever you hear a European, particularly a Russian or someone from the Soviet Union, talk about this situation; they comment on it as being a prime example of Americans thinking we're owed something in this day and age. I guarantee you it wouldn't even cross the minds of the members of the Russian national team to complain about being taken to a national camp and kept there before the Olympics; or to bad mouth their coaches. Only Roman Romanchuk did that, and he got kicked off the team for it.

You can look up the article at http://www.quickdfw.com. It was said the Yanez can still try for arbitration. Yanez wants the arbitration to be held in Texas, but the hearing is expected to be held in Colorado Springs tomorrow. Yanez said that if he loses the arbitration he will go to federal court for an injunction. Yanez is now saying that if he is not able to go to Beijing that it will affect him professionally and hurt him far as sponsors. USAB can't send anyone in his place. The team will go to the Olympics with 8 boxers.

Hmm - I wonder if an arbitration decision can be overturned - don't think I've heard of that happening before.

And I do disagree with his statement that not participating in the Olympics will impact his professional career. Pros aren't paying any money these days.

In the past USA Boxing has allowed athletes to get away with many infractions and has never, or rarely, exerted any discipline. Top athletes have been "rewarded for bad behavior." IF there is a legitimate reason to remove Luis, or any boxer, from the Olympic team, I am glad that USA Boxing is finally taking action and making the athlete accept responsibility. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out. :-?
How could say that???
