Bloody hell, I thought that was a joke. About Gainer. No shame, is there?

How many times have there been fighters who have done exactly the same for it to be scuppered by the promoters.

In addition you say you believe Hennessy will compromise. He has his own contract to look after and a potential new one with ITV do you honestly think he would allow one of his best boxers to fight on another channel, even if he did what would the Paymasters at ITV or Sky think?

Think about it.
Fvcking hell man. I've written a lot on these boards why I think it won't happen just yet. Khan is looking for fringe featherweights (Gainer). That can stop a good fight from happening.

I even would prefer to see Murray beat a mover (Fewkes). Murray and his trainer don't agree with me though - why face some Khan-like problems for less recogniton? - and to their credit want to take the big fights, especting no favours.

I think Hennessy knows he has a star now. We all know Hennessy's thing has been to get a Warren fighter on a Hennessy bill. But it has never worked via purse bids/mandatories. So that has been exhausted. Khan & Murray aren't each other's top contenders.

David Haye is the example of how to beat a Warren fighter. Fight on their show, with their ref, their judges, and take that chin. Hint, hint.

Froch & Witter still are waiting for the big fights, and are 30 plus. Hennessy has said that so long as they pay Murray something sensible they'll do it. I don't think anyone is looking to break the bank.

Otherwise, I have been told that every fight they will go out there & create the demand for a Khan fight.

I'm not sure where this Murray is avoiding Khan story has come from, but I've never been lead to believe that from Team Murray and from people that know John and/or Joe.

In fact, I think Joe PM'd me when he was in Vegas in December to let me know that Khan's agent was there.

Personally I can't see it happening as Warren won't risk his only Golden Goose against a dangerous prospect like Murray. I hope I'm wrong for the good of British Boxing.

I think it's a competitive fight, but Murray needs Khan a lot more than Khan needs Murray. That's always been the problem as outlined above; Froch, Witter, Murray now... need to make all the running to get the bigger names.
Murray should be taking this fight for next to nothing; it's obvious that he'll want a big purse, but proportionally he should be thinking longer term and if he believes he can win this fight he needs to make it happen. I know that's hard on Murray but there's no getting away from the fact that he's unknown by wider audiences.

I think, for all Khan's sheltering, that he'd just have too much for Murray, but I'd love to see it and would be hoping for the upset. It's such a shame that the promoters see only longevity as an asset. There'll always be another boxer along, so IMO it's best business sense to me to make the biggest and most competitive matchups. That's the only way either promoter (Hennessey or Warren) are gonna get fighters ready to challenge for genuine world titles and make the big big money.

Yeah I know, reading it back I am just stating the obvious.

This is true - they know the money isn't going to be great, that the conditions will all favour Khan. No one's under any illusions, believe me. They've heard Khan say he'll take the fight (before Friday) and are now saying "ok, we're ready."

Murray's also looking to the Melero-Thaxton winner, but that fight is Sept & Sept is when Murray hopes to fight again.

Personally, I'd be happy to see him fight the winners between Melero-Thaxton, Fewkes-Gethin, Willie Limond. Lots of good fights will keep Murray with plenty to think about. If he keeps looking great, ppl will start to say Khan is ducking.

But it does look a bit daft, Khan fighting in Manc on Sept 6, Murray making himself available for that date (unless the Board of Control make him fight someone for 1st defence) & nothing happening.

Absolutely; I just feel that Murray needs this to happen pretty quickly. The last thing I wanna hear is another Hatton-Witter situation..... can just hear DG now banging on aout Khan ducking Murray!!!!!

No chance of it happening in September then. Gainer out. Barry McGuigan in.

Gainer? They can't be serious!

And Khan is a lot faster than Murray and would beat him late. That said, Murray would give him all he could handle.

Might be bit like the Gomez fight only longer as Murray has more stamina.

That's the thing. These things can drag out forever. I won't be surprised if Khan and Murray are different weight divisions next year. Froch and Witter are perfect reasons to make these fights happen early. David Haye a great example of just going on the hostile show, although Murray wouldn't get the Haye payday obviously (because Haye was an undisputed champion).

Anyway, great to see Murray in the running. I think more & more ppl will believe in him as he defends his British title - & as long as Khan doesn't answer the call.

Lol, do you not think Murray would hit Khan at some stage?

As if Frankie would make this fight anyway, just big lol at the idea.

I love how everyone wrote off Derrick Gainer as an opponent capable of beating Khan, by the way.

Murray will get better & better. Offensively and defensively. As seen in the Hickman and Meager fights.

Did anyone see Meager break his guard open? I struggled to find an example. Punching quality was excellent as well.

Can't wait for his next fight, whoever it's against.

id like to see this fight......but it wont happen because hennessey will be in dreamland thinking they can hold the show, and this just isnt a possibility.

if Murray actually wants the fight he should put himself forward to fight in sept, on the khan bill, and for a not so rediculas amount of cash...say £50k

his title proberly wont be on the line (aint Khan on a 12 month ban ????), and all he has to do is put in a good performance and his stock rises - he doesnt even have to win

the money earnt from fighting khan is made by fighting khan again in the rematch (obviously you have to beat him first), thats why i dont understand why these boxers who think they can beat him dont take the fight for fook all (ala Thaxton and the £125k offer, which the haters seem to forget)

Very true. Small money, give them an immediate rematch clause, chin him, and then chin him again to hit the jackpot and make his name in two massive profile UK fights.

If someone was that confident (and dangerous), would Warren accommodate them? Or what he bite their hand off?

Yes they are, because one of the points you hit on have already been voiced by team Murray. You're possibly closer to the point than you think.

Are Khan and the ppl around him confident? He's such a big name, with such a bad chin, that the kid may clean out not only the super feather division, but featherweight too.

To Khan's credit, he does fight hunger, he does genuinely seem to want to do something big. But Khan's confidence and Warren's matchmaking just don't add up satisfactorily.

i think khans next oppo will be shit

FW will want an easy one cause the lad doesnt even have a trainer yet, so he aint going to step him up when he will be starting from scratch again

however, if his 2nd fight of the season is against a stiff, then i will no longer be defending the match making and progress of khan

to date its been fookin good, specifically when you look at Murrays oppo's to date

Must piss Warren off that Gainer is fighting on the Calzaghe-Jones undercard, and thus unavailable for Khan!

If Raheem was a couple of divisions smaller, I'll bet he would have gotten the call.

Personally, I think Murray can get big by himself. Thaxton, in Manchester, to get the Hatton fans on the bandwagon. A few more explosive wins. To be very big I think he either needs the Hatton fans behind him, or obviously beat a big name like Khan.

But you know, scintillating performances at British and Euro level won't hurt Murray's standing, with or without Khan.

I really like Murray's interview after the Meager fight. It seems he was 'fired up' for Meager and that result in a brilliant performance, imagine how seriously he would train for Khan. This would be a great fight, and think the sooner its made the better.

I wonder if Murray will sign with the Hattons somewhere down the line? Weren't they in the dressing room after the fight and Murray has sparred with Ricky? Will be interesting if he switches promoters.

I hope Khan is now starting to find cringeworthy how he pretty much dissmisses Murray and most other top British lightweights and then ends up fighting a featherweight.

I just don't think Khan/Murray is gonna happen. FW is not in the business of helping out other British promoters or their fighters unless they have something more to offer. The only way the situation could possibly change is if Khan dug his heels in with FW, but seeing as though he's just singed a new contract it's not gonna happen.

We're all debating about a non-starter (how many times has that happened).

If Murray could get Ricky's fans on board then the World is his oyster.
