North West based prospects, how far can they go?
Re: North West based prospects, how far can they go?
Stephen Smith could go far. What about Tyson Fury ?
Re: North West based prospects, how far can they go?
Not sure bout Crolla now. Hall got a big win recently, I was surprised when Martin C stopped him last year but he wasn't at the races in that fight.
I still remain a big Smigga fan. I just don't think McGirt is the right trainer for him.

Bellew & S Smith should defo reach British Title level
and i think bellew could go beyond euro level with his power mixed with the weak division he is in

Bellew will defenitely reach British title. Was in Arnie's gym today along with Bellew and Crolla and both are good prospects.
Spoke to Crolla about his defeat and the guy gave genuine answers and offered no excuses. He admitted that he was not himself and his opponent was very useful.
Have got huge faith that both these guys can make excellent careers for themselves.

Bellew and S.Smith will go at least Euro level I'm hoping. The new generation of Liverpool stars.
I read that Tony Dodson is impressed with Bellew and thinks he will one day be a world champion.

I haven't seen Vassell fight, so can't comment on him. I think Crolla can bounce back and that the defeat might do him a bit of good. I've always felt Al Hamidi is a very under-rated, tricky, journeyman.teddy007 wrote:So where do you think they will find their levels? Crolla will go no further than area level, hall has the pop to go to british level and possible fringe world title class(wbu that kind of level). Vassell another just under british level. Bellew no where, but saying that the lhw division is very weak. Not really sure about smith and rose but the younger smith has all the potential to be big.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Not sure bout Crolla now. Hall definitely has the pop. I have a feeling he might go on to Euro level now.
I think I've seen Bellew fight, but also have the feeling I was incapable at the time and my memory is drawing a blank. Yep, I have, against Brooks. I can't for the life of me remember it though.
I'm hearing a lot of rave reviews for Steve Smith so I'm definitely keeping an eye on him.

Re: North West based prospects, how far can they go?
Stephen Smith put in the best debut performance I’ve ever seen in the flesh. He absolutely dominated Slasher, doubling hooks to head and body and finishing him off with a cracking body shot in the third. Shaun mightn’t win many but is durable and had never been counted out prior to that fight the Liverpudlian amateur star.
He was never at the races.
Walton, who had six weeks notice for the fight, also said that Smith was far and away the best fighter he’d even been in with – and that includes amateur and pro. That’s some praise because he was an ABA semi-finalist who twice extended Kevin Mitchell in the amateurs and has been in with a decent level of foe in the pros.

I liked the look of Blackburn’s Ali Shah when I was in Wigan on Friday, by the way. He is with the Ingles and looks as if he could develop into a cracking little pro over the next few years. I believe he’s only quite young, 18 or 19.
Re: North West based prospects, how far can they go?
What did you think of Quigg, Tom? I liked the look of him, especially after he got a KD a few fights ago. It was as though he said "Right you little fcker, that's it!".

Bellew, Ste Smith and possibly Vassell can go far.

Yeah, was impressed with the way he went about his business after being floored. Many would go for the cautious option after that but not him. It was the first time I’d seen in the flesh and thought he was good.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:What did you think of Quigg, Tom? I also thought Rhys Roberts looked good, probably better than Quigg. They are both with Brian Hughes.

Chris Johnson looks to be a pretty exciting fighter. I’ve only seen a bit of him – brief highlights on Channel M – but appears to have a bar of lead in his left glove. I mean, Steve Cooper is durable and he had him all over the shop on that pre-Christmas show in Bolton (I think). That was an impressive little result.
Incidentally, does anyone know if Channel M recorded the Robin Park show with Johnson-Daz Gethin on – the day before Hatton’s fight at Eastlands?

I'm the other way around. I think Smigga is just below British title level at best, while Crolla has potential. Terrible outing last time out but he had health problems.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Not sure bout Crolla now. Dilks is a good fighter and can bang, and he's a top bloke.
Two fighters we haven't touched on are Flournay and Moran.
Flournay is tough as old boots and always gives good money.
Mark Moran is tidy with decent power and bags of talent. He's got the opportunity to reach Euro level IMO.

Essentially though, none of them, I think, are THAT good. Bellew maybe, but he MAY just get tagged a little too much for my liking. I'll be watching him closely.

That’s a shame. Cheers for that, Tez.Terry D wrote:Johnson is a weird case. His fights would start off dull only for him to bang someone out with the left hand. Lately his fights are not as dull and he is banging people about with the left hand.
I am pretty sure they did not film that show Tom.
Another fighter from the North West who has caught my eye is Jack Arnfield. From what I’ve seen of him – again, very little – he looks a tall, measured fighter who bangs the body well and punches spitefully. I was very impressed with the way he dealt with Billy Smith, albeit an overweight version, and likewise with southpaw David Kirk.
I remember seeing him lose in the 2004 Junior ABA final to Thomas Costello, one of Birmingham’s brightest prospects, in Huddersfield. Thought he showed a lot of potential then.

off the topic slightly but I really like Billy Joe Saunder's style. Irrespective of how well he does in Beijing I think he will make a cracking pro fighter - he could be the pick of the squad out of the vest for me...
If I was a promoter and I could only ink one GB/Ireland Olympian, I would go after Saunder's signature - he will adapt really well to the pro game

Why? Because he lost one fight and was found to have a blood deficiency? He's 10 times better than he showed last time out Ted.teddy007 wrote:Making it in my eyes is getting beyond british tilte even world title. He's definitely British title standard if he pulls his finger out, and Moran could be too.
I must admit I haven't seen as much of Bellew.

A good win for Bellew and the Smith brothers on the Khan card.
Really do believe both Bellew and Stephen Smith can go all the way.
Is anyone going to the Everton Park Sports Centre on the 10th Oct?
Liam 'Beefy' Smith making his debut with his two brothers, i've heard from a few lads he's better than his siblings!

Martin Murray needs to be thrown into the mix too. he looked superb on Sunday, at 25 theres little time to waste though.

What's next for Crolla, Arnie?
Lee Jennings impressed me yesterday, not seen him before but he was solid, and can punch.
Murray was good again, as Wales says, and Matko was very, very unlucky.

Just waiting to find out m8, He was back in the gym today, looking forward to when he puts his gym form in a real fight because then you will see how good he is.
