Thanks, yes, it is rather a wild assumption that I don't love boxing. I certainly could have earned more money staying in publishing and going away to shows (I don't drive so have to stay in places like Wigan, barnsley etc, thus taking half of the saturday too) twice a month plus watching all available boxing on tv and working at home most weekends, doesn't go down too well with the Mrs. Don't get me wrong, it's an absolute dream job but you wouldn't do it unless you loved it...and it wouldn't be a dream job unless you loved it either.

What is the problem with some people.

Did they go for the job and not get it.
Is all i'm saying is that i would prefer someone to work for a magazine and the sport that i love who also loves the sport, tom_podmore, oliver fennel were ones that spring to mind.
A lot of ppl won't have applied for the job if they didn't fit the criteria. It's fine loving boxing and being able to write. But if the job description asks for something extra as well, that some ppl just cannot do. The editor did say that he wanted someone who would be able to help with the building of the BN website. Maybe this is the extra requirement that got Danny the job, maybe it isn't,; ultimately, does it really matter to any of us?

Anyway, this thread is going on forever.

Podmore maybe, but you wouldn't want Fennell, there is no way of getting his mug of tea onto your average desk, and as for the brown sauce.....

He knows what I'm talking about :TU:

Flexen seems to be getting some stick and some of it is justified, but I bet he's revelling in it.

He is paid to garner interest and get people talking while giving accurate information in his own style, and he seems to be doing it.

Give the lad a chance.......

PS Danny Flexen is a c*** :D

There you go, I've done my bit...

You lot make me out to be some rabid nationalist! I'm not, I'm just from here..... :TU:

Flexen is Welsh for "Fook off and wallow in self-pity"

You want a blog go and read mine, it's mustard.

I thought rabid nationalist was the Welsh national dish. You drown the rabbit, wallow it in self pity, bast it with the national characteristic of tragedy and booze, before simmering with some poetry about the sublimity of nature. Invite Richard Burton over for tea, and Boyo is your uncle.

I read your blog every single day, sometimes twice.
I read it naked.

Glyn Leach wrote:There are very few trained journalists in specialist boxing writing — the experience is gained on the job and the very few jobs that become available only go to those who show themselves to be knowledgeable and dedicated enough to deserve the chance. Bottom line is if Danny Flexen impressed Claude with his knowledge, you can take it as read that he did well and he belongs at BN. That is the way it works at our level. Give the guy a chance.
I agree with what you have stated.

I am sick of the snobbery that goes on in this and other forums and within boxing. Personally I do not give a shit what qualifications Flexen has or hasn't got. If he writes decent articles I will say so. If he writes complete garbage I will also give my opinion.

Flexen has got his job through merit in that he has impressed Abrams which I know by experience is a very hard thing to do.
