Willie Limond to fight Dmitry Salita in NYC in Sept

Post by emile »

Seconds Out is reporting it as confirmed, after the fight was rumored in the Scottish press. Limond will have to go up in weight, although Salita is not a KO artist.

Woah, interesting fight. So it's at Light Welterweight? Has anyone seen Dmitriy Salita? What's he like?

Hes pretty overhyped, they have been waiting for him to step up for years but he hasnt. Just like Greenberg the only reason he has any interest in him whatsoever is the fact that he is Jewish.

In America I doubt fighting Willie Limond will be seen as a step up

As mentioned, he's over hyped a bit. I first read about him in RING two years ago when they were hailing him to fight Ricky for his WBA belt. He's taken the Greenburgh path since.

There's a decent doc on him called Golden Gloves which used to be on the BBC iPlayer.

He doesn't train on Friday's, either.

LIMMOND VS SALITA

Post by bigped »

Limmond Vs Salita how you see this one going?? Fair play to willie laddie is fearless.

OPPONENT NAMED FOR SALITA

Jerry Glick reporting: Former Commonwealth champion Willie Limond will face undefeated Dmitriy Salita on the undercard of Roy Jones vs. Joe Calzaghe at Madison Square Garden, New York on September 20, 2008.

This will be Salita’s first bout under the Square Ring banner. Salita recently signed a three-fight deal with Jones’ promotional company.

“I am very excited to be on this card,” said Salita. “And I will put on a sensational performance. This is a great opportunity; Limond is a tough customer but I will be in great shape and put on a show for the fans in New York and around the world.”

Salita 28-0-1 (16) had hoped for a title shot but it did not materialize. WBA junior welterweight world champion Andreas Kotelnik did not take up Salita’s challenge.

Salita is nevertheless looking forward to Limond 29-2

“I will knock him out,” added Salita. "He will challenge me which will make me put on a great performance. I can’t wait!"

Limond should take solace in the fact that this guy isn't as talented as Khan...if that means anything.

Salita was on the floor twice in his last one, before coming through with a KO, i'd say this is a pretty even match for Limmond.

Limond's a very neat boxer. With a lot of accuracy, great timing but no power. To his credit, he has dropped Khan (who went down twice from the punch that floored him) and had an Africa down 2 or 3 times in the fight before that. But can he get a points decision away from home?

I tend to get Salita mixed up with Yuri Foreman, the other Eastern European Jew fighting out of NYC. Foreman is a very dull technical fighter. I think Salita is more of a pressure fighter - not sure how that matches with Limond, who I haven't seen, or if the weight difference will be more impactful than I had originally thought.

I think Salita would be the heavy favourite here.... Limond is a small Lightweight.

I thought he didn't fight on Saturday's, or at least doesn't like to. Anyway as has been mentioned he's another Greenberg. I've seen a couple of his fights and he's a tidy boxer, but he's got no power and looks like a teenage boy. Does strike me as the type of fighter who could handle much pressure. Obviously Limond is not gonna test him in that department though and that's probably part of the reason he's got the call.
