Any news on Williams v McDermott weigh-in?

Post by Boxingmad »

Have they weighed in yet, and if so, does anyone know the weights?

Last I heard, Danny might be in shape for this one, he was apparently round the weight he had for the Tyson win.

Just seen on skysports.

Williams - 265
McDermott - 252

Williams says this is a good weight for him which I find just baffling.

Danny was 270 vs Platov and 267 vs Airich and I thought he looked pretty good in both those fights. I think he'll do well tomorrow night.

Thing is what he has done in these wins over Tyson, Airich and (while it wasnt really a win) Platov was to ride an early storm and then come back when the opponent was spent. There is gonna come a time when he is in with a guy where he will have to fight at a pace for 10 or 12 rounds, and I dont think he can do that at 265. In his win over Skelton while it was exciting late on, it wasn't a decent heavyweight pace like say Skelton v Chagaev or Samm v McCall was.

Obviously Im not saying Danny is going to lose to McDermott but going onwards he is gonna have fights where his fitness really will be questioned against someone who can throw a decent number of punches a round.

I really cannot see how you thought Danny looked good against Airich..... he was all of the shop.

I didn't think he looked good against Platov - just his old power getting him out of it again.

I do like Danny but I do think some on here are getting carried away. I mean I know some think Im a complete numpty (some may have some more choice words) for being an Audley supporter, but when people one second say that Williams clearly was way out of shape in the second Audley fight (weighed 267 and pre fight said he had been in training for another fight) and today are saying 265 is a good weight for him, then you do have to start to wonder.

I didn't say 265 lbs is a good weight for him. In fact, I don't think anyone has. I just said he looked pretty good against Platov and Airich. That's all.

In other words, I still think he'll KO McDermott @ 265 lbs.

Did anyone else see the sky sports news section on this?

I was amused when the two were meant to be having a face off for the camera, and at first we just see Williams looking mean and then the camera pans around to McDermott who looks confused back and forth between Williams and the camera and says 'oh are you recording?'

Great editing there by sky.

There is the point also that weight doesn't neccessarilly fully reflect the shape you are in. You can be at different levels of fitness, even if you are 265lb! There is a 265 in shape, and a 265 out of shape!

Frank Maloney siad last night that if Danny comes through this fight, they will be looking for him to fight the winner of Peter and Vitali. Danny will fight on that undercard against an American first.

sounds good...

as for someones comment about the first skelton fight

that was one of dannys best performances...the gameplan worked..the stamina was there...he boxed bravely and intelligently against one of the biggest spoliers in history

and remember danny let rip in the last round and had matt all over the place ....chagaev never looked close to doing that at all...couldnt have if hed tried and probably would have been knocked out by matt if hed mixed
