Hamed and Benn didn't "starch" anyone that good.Terry D wrote:I agree, the Hagler rating does not make sense. Fully Obel II aside he did not starch many guys in the same manner as a Naseem or Benn did.

The greatest puncher of all time is Ali.
I have a few issues with the rankings. For example, I think Rosario should be higher on that list and Galaxy much lower. In terms of sheer power Mugabi should be higher also.

I can't see how you can sing Mugabi's praises while saying that Galaxy should be much lower. They were two peas in a pod, if anything, only Galaxy had a much better KO-to-fight percentage, and he actually beat a few top fighters.

The problem with this is that it's too vague.
What does "Greatest Punchers mean?
Is this based sheerly on power?
Does it matter if one guy had power with both hands and another doesn't?
Does accurracy matter?
What about speed?

I would have Julian Jackson as the P4P greatest puncher of all time.

Seriously do you rank Galaxy ahead of Arguello, Zarate, Danny Lopez, Rosario, Duran, and Julian Jackson?
Re: Ring Magazine's One Hundred Greatest Punchers
Perhaps not, but even in fights against comparable levels of opponents, Benn and Hamed seemed to do more damage and get more KOs with single punches. Hagler's KOs came about because of his greater all around skill and the work he did to wear his opponents down.Big Bad John wrote:Hamed and Benn didn't "starch" anyone that good.Terry D wrote:I agree, the Hagler rating does not make sense. No, just as I wouldn't rank John Mugabi above Michael Spinks, David Tua, Henry Armstrong, Bob Satterfield, Ike Williams and Naseem Hamed.Borinken25 wrote:Big Bad John wrote:I can't see how you can sing Mugabi's praises while saying that Galaxy should be much lower. Re: Ring Magazine's One Hundred Greatest Punchers
Rosario is too low at #36. He was crazy inconsistent but had one of the best right hands I've ever seen. Muhammad may be a little high at #24. He used to wear opponents out but not sure he belongs so high on the list of big punchers. Not sure what Salvador Sanchez is doing on the list. A truly great fighter, but a great puncher? Finally, if Ricardo Lopez and Humberto Gonzalez are going to make the list, it needs to make room for Pascual Perez who, along with Jimmy Wilde, put up impressive KO numbers in dominating the flyweight divisions of their time
