Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
Re: Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
Rios is a competitive match, he has only lost in world title fights, a genuine lightweight, current Argentinian and South American champ and last seen on these shores KO'ing former European Champ, Jason Cook for his IBO title
Can't really see how anyone can complain with this opponent.

Cherry Bomb is a good shout - esp following the (unsubstantiated) rumours that he KO'ed Lil Boy Floyd in a club altercation.exittored wrote: If they couldn't get Augustus than Edner Cherry would be a good choice, not quite world championship material but a good yardstick against other guys like Malignaggi and Jose Santa Cruz
Whether its true or not it makes for a good story. Lets see Khan in against Edner Cherry next:

Re: Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
Why not just Arthur. Arthur beats Cook, moves up for a lightweight one off. Takes the fight to Khan, willing and hopefully strong at the weight. Gives Khan a decent workout. Khan, the bigger, faster kid, should win. And then he'll say he's beaten a world champion. Yes, it takes the piss, but in many ways (money, experience) it "makes sense."
Re: Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
To be fair, FW had some encouraging comments about John fighting Amir last night, but not for September, and John also gave a very good acco8unt of himself in an interview where he said he's ready for September, if called upon, but is concerntrating on his own career.

There are gaps in the kid's learning curve. He made so many errors vs a shot Gomez, so don't piss your pants when ppl complain about the progress of Khan.

Khan is what 21 years old, with possibly 10 years ahead of him in the game, yup he made mistakes against Gomez and will learn from them. What sort of fighter goes from making mistakes against Micheal Gomez to being thrown in with the top guys in the division
"progress" doesnt mean "blindly being thrown in with people before you are ready"

Make me wonder why he bothers going to clubs. According to the American media he's now been KO'd by 50 Cent, Judah and the Cherry Bomb.TerribleTerry wrote:Cherry Bomb is a good shout - esp following the (unsubstantiated) rumours that he KO'ed Lil Boy Floyd in a club altercation.exittored wrote: If they couldn't get Augustus than Edner Cherry would be a good choice, not quite world championship material but a good yardstick against other guys like Malignaggi and Jose Santa Cruz

I never heard about the Judah one, but I don't believe any of them tbh. They're all hype. If Floyd was KO'ed there'd be more proof about than a few tattle tales on the internet.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Make me wonder why he bothers going to clubs. But I'm not asking him to go in against the top guys in the division. Yes, he is still raw. But it'd be nice to see him vs lightweights. I'll settle for Alex Arthur, as he really has outgrown super feather.
Re: Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
I think Gainer would be a shameful opponent personally. Talk about a blast from the past, I'd actually forgotten about him.
Maybe Khan could go through all Naz rivals from the 90s, Kevin Kelly, Norwood, Junior Jones, Kennedy Mckinney, all names and all smaller than him. Perfect.

Oooooooh!!..would`nt like to see Junior Jones fight again anytime soon, auld spindle`s spindly legs would be spindling all over the place.
I remember the open letter to Naz in BxNews from Roy Jones requesting Naz to fight "Smoke"...Naz would of decapetated him.
Re: Gainer turns down Khan - Skysports
Well, he's big enough having campaigned at 140 and 135. I suppose, better Hatton's opponents than Naz's!
