can people just accept that this guy is a domestic level fighter and never been anymore than that.

got whipped for the european title in his prime.

beat an old mikey boy.

beat audley and the hype train.

and a few international plodders.

either rematch mcdermott or audley or retire.
Retire should be the option.

To be fair to the Danny fans.... his footwork would be so much better if he was just lighter. I'm not going to be naive enough to say he is completely lazy... cause he would have recovered like he did tonight - he is just training wrong.

He is bulking up way too much on his trunk and his legs.

He's undoubtedly vulnerable... this was John McDermmott FFS... but Danny looked so much more sturdier against Scott Gammer, who hit him with some good shots and for my money hits every bit as hard as McDermott (if not as good technically)... and Danny was always in control of his legs.

He slowness with his weight 1) Makes him easier to hit... cause he comes in so slow and bending down asking for uppercut and 2) His footwork isn't as good. Alot of Danny's vulnerability problems is down to his footwork and he doesn't like an uppercut... Sam, Klitchsko, Tyson, McDermmott, and Audley(? can't remember) got him realing with an uppercut. I know Sam and Audley definately hurt him with the jab, but he legs did a chicken dance to uppercuts vs Sam and I think vs Audley to.

The judges should have scored it 10-8 - maybe they didn't but they should have.

I think I gave McDermmot 1, 5, 6 and that was being kind - the 5 being a 10-8 round.

But I think where Watt and the guys who scored the fight big for McDermmot was with the scoring of the last two rounds.

Both Williams for me... but somehow Watt scored them huge McDermmot - a 10-7 and a 10-8 round I think! Which was bizzare.

It was 9-8 and 9-9 on my card... so lets tally.

10-9
9-10
9-10
9-10
10-8
10-9
9-10
9-10
9-10
9-10

9-9

111 -113 Williams

Even with the points deduction I thought Danny won it. He won nearly every round. 111-114 I thought.

10-9
9-10
9-10
9-10
10-8
9-10
9-10
9-10
10-10
9-10
9-8 (Worst scoring round by Watt, Danny won that round quite easy, with the -2 points 9-8)
9-9 (Danny always won this round quite easy with the -1 point. 9-9.

I'm not sure what Watt was watching.

The judges obviously didn't want to give it to McDermott. The man didn't try to win a single round apart from round 6, as I saw it. He isn't a natural fighter. Lacks the fighting instinct, despite having the talent to stop Williams, which makes it very frustrating to watch.

Yes, with the deductions, you'd think McDermott would have got the decision. But Williams - clumsy as he was - looked like the only one actively pursuing victory. That's what it looked like to me. The corner of McDermott had a Teddy Atlas moment in between every round.

Glad Danny won, not a good performance but apart from 1st and 5th, i think he won every other round

What is the crap these commenatators are talking about, danny is known as coming back from the brink loads of times
and he won that fight easy
Because Williams got deducted, and eff all else was happening, perhaps.

if theres going to be a stewards into the judging - and thats how Maloney was talking at ringside
then there should be a stewards into the ref as well
thought sky were well off the mark tonight as was the ref. he was on Williams case from the start, there was an arguement for the first 2 points but the last one was way out McDermott was holding his arse off.
I thought Williams just pinched it but wouldn't argue if McDermott had nicked it with the points off.
If the ref really didn't want Williams to win, he would have stopped him on his feet in the sixth, perhaps.

i thought danny did enough, but was worried about some of the unfairly deducted points. i did not see danny land completely clean to macdermotts chin all night, yes there were some decent shots, but mostly looping right hands that caught doughnut at the end of the swing, if danny had landed flush i think he would have put lard arse away..

Williams won it pretty easily without the Point deductions.

WITH the point deductions (which were pretty dumb imo anyway) i still think Williams edged it.

I read this was the same guy that robbed Williams against sprott with trigger-happy point deducting.

pretty comfortable for Danny in the end, evenon points, thanks to the stupid point deductions, i still have Danny just edging it.

Mc Dermott put no effort except for the 5th, he just pawed and held. Neither deserved to win though.

Would of felt horrible If McDermott was the British champ.
absolutely, he was doing hardly anything. There's no excuse for that, especially after he nearly stopped Williams.

Disturbing that Williams struggled against Mcdermott
a few years back he wouldnt have had many problems with him... looked better against Gammer when he was lighter but really his punch resistance has looked suspect since the Klitchenko fight which really took a lot of of him imo... dont really like the idea of him fighting Peter... could be a brutal fight for Danny...

What were the SKY team watching??!!(spoiler)

Post by lurkyshaka »

Firstly lets be honest, Danny Williams performed terribly last night. The fight should have been all over with within 3 rounds! McDermott was clearly terrified, did nothing and wanted to quit after 3 rounds without taking anything major.....But whats all this bull about how McDermott deserved to win??!! Apart from a massive 5th round he did sweet FA all night long. Dave Parris worked harder to get him the win than he himself did. Frank Maloney talking afterwards about it being a robbery and McDermott fighting his heart out!?! :o ....what a load of b*llocks!!

I gave McDermott the 5th 10-8.....another 9-8 because of the pts deductions off Williams......and the last 9-9...........but everything else to Williams.

I don't see any controversy about the Williams win atall. Only controversy for me was Dave Parris harrassment of Williams, And the shocking scoring of the SKY team.

Williams won the fight fair and square, but his display was terrible as he turned what should have been an easy blowout into a struggle. He takes being a hot and cold performer to another dimention!

would anyone pay to see these two inept prats go at it again it brings no credit to the British title when these guys are considerd the best in the country. In my day you could see better fights at chucking out time in any town.
they match one guy who does'nt know how to fight against one who does;nt want to.We may not have had the best heavys in the world in the past but most of them knew why they were in there, Henry Cooper would have put boh of these two to sleep in double quick time & on the same night

It was a bit of a non performance by McDermott. If he'd put more in the fight, he would have got more out of it.

I really wonder if boxing is the right career for him. He doesn't look happy or comfortable in the ring. And he doesn't switch on, when he has to. He has it in him, physically to be a decent British champ. But there is something holding him back mentally.

I didn't like the sound of Maloney, saying, "Now I'll have to build his confidence up all over again."

Have to ask, is it worth it? Michael Moorer was like this at world level, and eventually Atlas had had enough.

Sky's commentary team are poor. I don't think Adam Smith has ever seen a bad fight.
They have been nonsense since the Darke-McCrory team split up.
The worrying thing is that many people are taken in by what they say.
Remember guys this is the TV network who tell us the Premier League is the greatest.

Adam Smith is consistently awful, and he has been doing it 10 years now.
I appreciate that he had no experience when he started(his well connected dad got him the job) but you think he would have learnt and developed a bit.

I was bemused by Jim Watt again - I also think he sways Adam Smith's scoring as well. I had it 114-113 to Williams, and that 'low blow' never warranted a deduction. I can live with the forearm and the gum shield deductions though. I enjoyed this fight as well - that 5th was amazing.
