You posted after when Witter lost to Bradley that Calzaghe was a real champ though.

Pavlik has only fought Taylor at world level, even If he gets better he ain't ready for an elite like Joe anyway.

Well Abraham and Pavlik couldnt agree terms for whatever reason, so Pavy has to find another dance partner, and Sturm isnt world class by the looks of things he'd get dismantled by the other 2. Middles a pretty weak division and has been for a long time

He bust him up, broke his nose and dropped him on his backside and outboxed him for 6 of the 12 rounds.

He's had what, 1 soft stoppage of Manfredo in his last 8 fights ? the rest have been good boxing displays (apart from Bika but he was unmotivated for that) but hardly been a killer.

Pavlik has took care of business in style, leaving no room for debate in anyone's minds.

Gomez after the 1st round I couldn't give that cheat a round till the 8th Hopkins mostly just hugged, fouled and low blowed, he didn't win a thing.

Joe's left no one In doubt In his wins either, not stopping them doesn't change that.

At the same time the vast majority thought Calzaghe won. Every poll (on every site/forum) and all the channels that broadcasted the fight clearly pointed to the fact that Calzaghe deserved a close win (nevertheless there were a couple of famous British boxing writers who thought Hopkins won).

I think Hopkins embarrassed himself, in his fight with Calzaghe - hugging and running for 12 rounds, pretending to be hurt, doing anything he could to steal the fight, other than actually having a fight. Then again if Hopkins had actually decided to trade and fight, it would have just meant more success for Calzaghe.

Well to be fair, and I have possibly been Joe HARSHEST critic.... you can hardly call Kessler and Hopkins cruise and collect fight. Jones yes... but you make it sound like he has been in cruise and collect mode for a long time since Lacy.

It his next fight, and he hasn't fought it yet. You say he is looking to get big money easy wins.... thats probably true, but lets so who they have lined up next (if they do) after Jones.

I think after Kessler and Hopkins Joe is maybe entitled to an easy one... just a shame he did waste most of his earlier career.

Calzaghe has already stated he's not giving up his WBO 168 belt and its clearly with a view to facing Pavlik at that weight. So he's taking Jones in a fight he's wanted for years, for excellent money! Before taking on the latest flavour of the month puncher, providing Kelly gets past Hopkins. Pavlik also has the chance to make a fight against Joe even bigger if he can beat Hopkins impressively.

So i fail to see what Calzaghe's supposed to be doing thats so shameful?

Whilst I am here, can I please also point out the obvious.

Hopkins has less options about who he fights. He lost his last fight. Calzaghe didn't.

I've thought for many years that Hopkins was pick-pocketing his way through fights, and if you check old BM and SecondsOut articles you'll find the proof. He fought like a woman in the fight with Joe, but Joe was exposed as a one-trick pony, too, as he had no clue as to how to go about catching the running grandad. As pointed out above, Joe got his nose broke, dropped and embarrassed whenever Hopkins wanted to fight (which wasn't often, I know).

My beef with Calzaghe right now is that he's chosen to fight a fighter in Roy Jones who he'd previously dismissed as "old", "shot" and "a has-been". He does this rather than face Pavlik - who is the very definition of the kind of fighter Joes has spent 11 YEARS moaning that they are avoiding him. In other words, Joe C has bitiched for years about the exact thing he is now doing himself!

Surely this is isn't a subtle point I am making? In short, I've gone off Calzaghe because he's a hypocrite. And don't even get me started on that bollocks about fighting in New York because it is "better value for loyal fans".

Ant, did you see a thread on this started by G0mez a couple of weeks ago? He brought up most of the hypocrite points.

There has ben the new twist on this i.e. keeping the WBO title in case he wants to fight Pavlik later.

Obviously, Joe never let bullshit get in the way of a good fight & now he's partly responsible for the potentially horrible Pavlik-Hopkins fight.

I do think Hopkins will likely disgrace himself - again though. If he did his best to spoil vs mid 30 somethings Wright and Calzaghe, what will he be like vs a power puncher like Pavlik, in the prime of his life.

Calzaghe is indeed a talented Champion, indeed a good Boxer. But a shame what he has done with his career.

Will always remain as one of those boxers who "Could have been".

There is a reason why Hopkins, RJJ, Tarver, Winky etc. are legends. Just look at their Career fights. Compare them to Calzaghe's fights.

You will struggle to find world-class opponents in Calzaghes career. Only a 43 year old Hopkins, Fringe-World-Class Kessler, Shot Eubank, now a passed it washed up champion RJJ will be added to that list.
