The 5th rounds was good but the rest was shit. When Mcdermot said in the interview he was a 'warrior' i think he meant worrier.
Jim Watt kept saying after about 10 rounds that is was good that mcdermot wasn't blowing! His mouth was open from the 3rd round!

Has Jim Watt got a grudge against Danny Williams? I had to turn down the volume! Danny just egded it.Those points deductions were a joke, if you watch low blow in slow motion you'll see Danny catches Mcdermott on the arms, the gumsheild comes out when John has Danny in an armlock and Danny is trying to say something, the pust was not much at all. Im glad Danny won :D

Like someone mentioned earlier I hope SKY ditch Jim Watt!

I think so, but a small one. He was nearer 190 than 180, I think. Don't know whether he could have boiled down to 175.

Cooper was out weighed in a lot of his fights but it did not stop him putting quite a few on their arse & a plodding danny Williams would have been made for our enry

For what it's worth, I did not enjoy watching that fight one bit.

There is something not right with McDermott. I don't think he is a quite special needs case, but he seems to have be treated, cajoled and guided like a nine year old.

One of the worst EVER challengers for a British title. Obviously that says absolutely nothing for the champion.

Danny: time to retire. When you were coming up as youngster you were very impressive. You have fulfilled some of that potential as a pro, let it be now. You won't get any closer to the top no matter how long you continue.

Good post,Williams looked a really natural talented boxer in the early days{as opposed to the robotic Bruno who achieved more}also i dont think in years to come we will be talking about McDermott.

This must be the most talk about Heavyweight title fight for ages, Which can only be good for the sport. I was ringside and made McDermott the winner by one point because of the points Williams had taking away in the last two rounds.I know there a lot who do not see it this way but the fight was hard to score, There were lots of rounds were no boxer did anywork but pose. Is just a matter how you saw it. One thing i know Maloney will be asking for a rematch. The way he behave after was the show of the night looked like he was going to have a breakdown or a meltdown...........

BUT - look at who Cooper put on their arse - not very good were they.

Danny is World Class when he 'fights' and lets his hands go - in fact when he does that he is pne of the best, but he only does it once in a blue moon.

Cooper would have been done in 1 by an 19st DW.

Name me 1 Heavyweight who can let his punches go the way Danny does!

Name 1!

I said DW is World Class 'WHEN HE LETS HIS HANDS GO. I mean he throws World Class punches!

He is on he slide - but still shows flashes of brilliance!

Before he fought Julius Francis, Williams had promise. He was well coordinated, hit hard & talented. It is sad, for anyone who saw how promising he was, to see him plod and throw off balance haymakers like he does.

But confidence and consistency have always been massive issues. That, combined with the masses of weight he puts on, and perhaps no wonder things have kept on going wrong for him.

He's definitely had some memorable fights - Potter, Tyson, Gammer, Platov, Airich - but if a Danny Williams fight goes past 7 or 8 rds, prepare to switch off. Some of his other fights that have gone long - 1st Julius Francis, 3rd Sprott, 1st Audley, Skelton - are sadly enough to make ppl think the old cliche that heavyweights are fat and lacking talent.

There is always the tempting "what if" with Danny, but even that is undermined by the Keith Long fight. Long pressured Williams. Williams couldn't get off the ropes for much of the fight, this a fit, prime Williams to boot.

Right now, I have as much interest in seeing Williams flop off balance, and seeing McDermott grapple with his inner demons to throw punches, as watching Tony Thompson or Taurus Sykes fly the flag for America.

Look, let's just put guys like Williams and McDermott on undercards. No way do they justify a main event.

I was at the fight (unfortunately as it turned out) so i didn't get any of the commentary or post fight interviews. Was there something wrong with Danny's right? I counted 3 shots thrown with it from the 6th round on.

Also as i tried to keep my eyes open it occurred to me that Danny only fights back these days. In all of his fights since the world title shot (+ Mirovic before) that i have seen/can think of he seems to wait until he is hit before throwing anything with any meaning. Against pie boy he was kept waiting quite a lot.

I hope he retires. He can rematch as even if he loses he won't get badly hurt but i can't imagine many watching.

Danny is damaged goods he,se been wobbled in most of his recent fights and is far dirtier than Skelton, He has constantly looked to foul his way to victories for years and to me he is a typical bully who tries to intimidate his opponents then struggles when he can,t .
He has lived off victories against a very average Mark Potter and a shot to pieces Tyson.
He couldn,t dominate the brawling Skelton in the first fight and then got totally outboxed by him in the second. He is not world class and never has been.

Thing with Danny is he is unpredictable.

IMO, he has one of the best chins in the current HW Division. He can take a real pounding and still stay standing.

He also has the power to just take out people easily.

I guess it's just in the ring strategy he struggles on. The Talent and Armory is there, just the mind-set in the ring causes problems

Excellent point. That is one big contributing factor as to why the first Audley fight was such a stinker. Of course everybody absolutely loved the chance to heap criticism on Audley for that, very conveniently forgetting Danny was almost as much to blame. All he did for nine rounds was follow Audley around on the end of his pitter-pat jab.
