Sharmba Mitchell v Michael Stewart...give your views
Who wins and how? Can anyone make a case for Stewart?

If Stewart were being lined up to face Hatton I think most of us would be pissed off. He couldn't even stop John Bailey who Ricky demolished ages ago.
Okay we get to see Mitchell who's world class but it not a fight to get remotely excited about.

Having seen Mitchell a few times and Stewart only the once (against a faded Millett) I am not the best judge to call this fight. What I have seen of the two makes me think that this is a far more competitive fight than most observers are predicting.
Stewart seems like a good solid proffesional with decent skills and underated power. Mitchell, for being a two-time world champion, can sometimes look decidedly ordinary at times. I think the majority of people would have tipped Stewart to beat someone of Livermore N'Dou's class, but Mitchell struggled and looked vulnerable at times. He also struggled to a majoirty decision win against Vince Phillips and since then Phillips got beaten up badly at the hands of Ricky Hatton.
Mitchell's best win in recent times is against the over-rated (by myself at one stage) Ben Tackie, he was doing well against Kostya Tszyu for as long as it lasted, but then so was the ancient (but still classy) Jesse James Leijla. Tackie is a decent enough fighter, but as the Hatton fight proved, gets beaten badly in top class and I'm not sure even if Tackie would beat Stewart.
Now, lets make this clear I'm probably going for a Mitchell win, but I' do give Stewart a chance, I have seen worst upsets. Whilst I think Magee vs Mitchell is a harder fight to call, Stewart is no fool and hopefully will make it exiting.
I posted this question to an primarily American forum and they are generally of the opinion that Stewart has little chance, they have seen more of both than me.
Here are some of the comments.
"Mitchell has too much skills and will make Stewart look bad" - "Stewart is mearly an elite journeyman".
"Stewart is from an area that is not known for its elite sporting success".
"Stewart is a poor man's Ricky Hatton - less agressive and not as strong.... but maybe a little cuter".
"Mitchell is too awkard and too strong, but Stewart will give a good effort"

It's not often I disagree with MW, but while I think Mitchell will beat Stewart, I certainly feel Sharmba's best days are behind him. He struggled against N'Dou, and was less convincing against Vince Philips than Hatton was. He's always been a speed merchant and this is bound to decline at his age.MightyWarrior wrote:Mitchell is in the form of his life.
I think he's ripe for the taking and for the first time I think Hatton would beat him if they fought (I'd felt the opposite for the past two years).
I agree with what your saying but Tackie didn't land more than 2 punches on Tszyu all night so he wasn't doing well.stujones wrote:Having seen Mitchell a few times and Stewart only the once (against a faded Millett) I am not the best judge to call this fight. You misread me Ben, I said he was doing well vs Tszyu for as long as it lasted - he was refering to Mitchell. Tszyu vs Tackie went the distance.Ben Keilty wrote:I agree with what your saying but Tackie didn't land more than 2 punches on Tszyu all night so he wasn't doing well.stujones wrote:Having seen Mitchell a few times and Stewart only the once (against a faded Millett) I am not the best judge to call this fight.
