Oy Oy Savaloy, He's my granddad as well you know Angelica, it's no wonder that I was always fighting as a kid is it, if only people never died Angelica, he was good was granddad, I had 3 fight's one day round me nan's, one was with the Irish kid round the other block, he came down with his boxing gloves on after he argued about something, he squared up to me and I done him right on the nose, the first punch, blood everywhere, he ran off up the stairs, screaming and saying while crying, "I'm gonna tell me mum on you, she'll get you back, you wait and see", he never came back down, but the last fight of the day was down to him, the second fight I had was the fight with Peter Harris 10 foot up on top of the bike shed's, right down the other end of the flats close by to the off license by the small scrap metal yard, he was miles bigger than me, but I done him as well, there was loads of people hanging over the balcony's of the flats that overlooked the bike sheds that we was fight on the top of, cheering and shouting, loads of people watching, and I felt like the king of the world on beating him.

The last fight of the day was with the Irish kids big brother, I'd been set up by the Irish kid's mum, he came looking for me, a very unfair contest, twice as old as me and twice the size of me, but I wouldn't back down, I was fighting him no mater what, I stood no chance, but I'd not walk away, couldn't do that, had to fight him, granddad was watching from the balcony, I landed a few on him, but he got me in the eye and mouth, the fight went on a while, and I got pulverised, I was in tears, a split lip, a black eye, granddad walked me home you know, pulled a hanky out of his pocket, gave me 5 bob for my troubles, after asking me if I was hurt, "Yeah I said through the tears", his reply was typical, but made good sense, "Don't worry about getting hurt Steven, the pain will go away, but the good bit is, is that he wont want to fight you again, you might have lost, but I bet he wont fight you again, and why did he give me the money, ?, "Because I never gave up!".

I miss granddad, you know, he'd come in, I'd be round nan's, (six or seven years old), she'll have already got me to go get granddad a pork chop with the kidney or a piece of rump steak for his tea, she'll have said to me, "Your a good boy for going to get your granddad his tea, keep the change Steven there's a good boy", then in comes granddad, he'd take his boots off, he'd be rubbing his feet while saying, "Corrr my feet are killing me Mag", he'd be rubbing his feet, and he'd smell of White Horse Liniment, and then he'd say to me, "Go over to window Steven, there's some Martel on the window sill behind the curtains, go and have a swig", I'd go, find the bottle, I'd unscrew the metal cap on the bottle, and have the swig, he'd be sat watching and then would say to me, have another swig Steven, go on before you put the bottle back, it's good for you.

If only everybody had a granddad like granddad Bull Angelica, and a nan like nan, I recon that somebody close by to where nan lived in Kinglake Street, had remembered how she was, that blue house coat, her mannerisms, they'd have know her well as the old lady in the Catherine Tate Show is a ringer isn't she !.

Oh well, I doubt that everybody can have a smile and a laugh about their nan & granddad can they like we can, they both might be dead and gone, but they'll stay in our heads until its our turn to go wont they, and it's very doubtful that anybody else could ever have a smile and a laugh thinking about close family as we can could they, if only we could all live forever, tut tut tut, if only Angelica, if only.

Ps, don't he look smart in that picture, very fit, and not a mark on his face, film star good looks, the stuff film's are made of if the truth's known.
