i wonder if she gave him the black eye? I saw LaMotta on a talk show on TV with Mike Tyson when Tyson was killing everybody. Jake's sitting next to him wearing this cowboy hat.(The Dago from the Bronx with the cowboy hat). Jake interrupts what ever Tyson is talking about and says with a big grin,(I think seriously),"You know Mike,you have a voice like a little girl. You're the Heavyweight Champ and you have a little girl's voice."
LaMotta's looking right at Tyson smiling.
You could hear a pin drop. Tyson is fumbling for something to say while Jake is still looking at his face.
"Yes,my voice has always been like that."
Jake slaps Tyson on the back and says,"But you're one hell of a fighter."

Dempsey also had a high-pitched voice.

I gave Louie Loy Senior some bad press earlier in this thread for 'throwing in' Louie Junior with a streaking Hector Camacho. This picture shows that Louie Senior knew his son could look after himself and, hey, you can't win 'em all!

I gave Louie Loy Senior some bad press earlier in this thread for 'throwing in' Louie Junior with a streaking Hector Camacho. This picture shows that Louie Senior knew his son could look after himself and, hey, you can't win 'em all!

I didn't see anything wrong with Louie fighting Camacho at the time, because Louie was as far as he was going as a fighter, so why not a good payday, the problem was that he didn't get a good payday, $17,000 for fighting Hector was not a good payday.

Like I said I hadn't been to LA. in a while. April it was Commerce. Friday,Wilmington. You can tell the downward economy has hit these places hard. The jobs and companies that have moved over seas have turned these once prospering communities almost into ghost towns. Signs on buildings reading "For Rent" and "For Lease". A lot of store fronts are boarded up. Geez,it was a Friday afternoon when I got up to Wilmington. It seemed like a Sunday. A lot of places closed. A little store here and there. A bar. In front of the Longshoremen Building there must have been 20 guys languishing around. They looked bored.No movement on the streets.Wilmington is right next to Long Beach. You think the trade would be moving in and out and there'd be a lot of activity.I didn't see one of those big cranes that unload the cargo in action. The big arms hanging there side by side. I passed a flop house called The Wilmington Hotel. Outside it was sunny,the sidewalk empty. Weeds growing up through the cracks along the curb. I heard a radio playing music coming out from the front desk. You could barely hear any sound.

A bar? how come I didn't see it, if I had I would have gone in for a drink or two, I would probably still be there tossing one for Mando....

Guys , I know Mando and Jackie McCoy worked as longshoremen .
How is that trade doing overall there?
From the pictures, it looks like the longshoremens hall is good size.
Is it all union?Is it a large union?
Do these guys work regular?

You should have seen this joint. It was around the corner up a couple of blocks. One of those shit kickin' Mexican bars that I bet on the weekend have every surly character within 20 miles in there. That afternoon it was quiet. Place probably doesn't get rollin' till around midnight.

Like I was sayin' earlier just on observation,it looked real slow. I didn't see a big crane working and it was a Friday afternoon. The Union building had a bunch of guys outside(who knows how many inside)waiting to get a call. Wilmington looked like one of those towns that the freeway bypassed. I was looking for the Bates Motel. Pretty gloomy.

I have to tell you, scrolling through this forum looking at pixs of Rick, Mando, Carlos, the Chicago Stadium, and then - SUDDENLY - there's Eva Mendes . . . its a real shock to the system.

As you know, my wife works with me in the office and, when I came upon that picture, I let out an involuntary 'WHOA!! MOMMA!! - WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT!!" I had to do some pretty quick thinking when my wife called out from her office, "What happened?" . . .
